Yesterday, my fiancee and I were working on our wedding guest list in Numbers.

She wanted to see what we had so far and make some changes so I exported an Excel file and:

1) Used Bluetooth to send it to her Treo
2) Watched her open it up on her phone and make edits and changes
3) Watched her save the file to her phone on her SD card
4) Watched her use Bluetooth to send the edited file back to me

These are 4 things the iPhone can't do, but my fiancee's fugly, old, fat, boring, useless, "place iPhone fanboy/girl insult here" Treo can do, and has been doing for years.

I am sure someone will tell us all how she could have just carried a MacBook Air with her instead.

p.s. I am sure the Pre will keep to the Palm tradition of making phones for people that don't just d!ck around with their machines.

Congratz Skunk! This is the first I've heard of your engagement.

Also: maaaaaaybe the iPhone will be up to par (in the business/productivity) category with 3.0... in six months.

Thanks dude!

I also hope so too. I may be looking at the iPhone for a third time depending on the Pre's ability to sync with OSX apps. I keep going back and forth with this, and I know that the phone is still perfect for me.... so it's more a network thing then I guess.

Palm, late to the party again...

At least it has copy & paste. The iPhone doesn't. I tried a 3G iPhone in my local Apple Store tonight and I wasn't impressed. The damned thing would not even pick up on my finger gestures. I am going to check out the Pre when it is released and then make a decision to go with it or an iPhone (newer version).

That and add another 10 more pathetic shortcomings compared to any modern smartphone and you got the iPhone 3G...

...Apple have to fix a LOAD of crap on iPhone or it will turn to be the 'last big thing from Apple" like all their new laptops turned out to be quite a disappointments compared to older ones.

Whats so "slow and cartoonish" on the iPhone?

It's subjective but I do find it cartoonish. It's not slow though - but it's just because it's a single-task smartphone (I know, it's hilarious in 2009 but true: can't do any multitasking, deliberately.)

This is pretty much the thing with the iPhone. Somethings should have been there since Rev A for it to be called a smartphone. In my eyes, it's an advanced candybar phone at best. Not a smartphone like the Treos and Blackberries, which can bluetooth files to other bluetooth devices and many other things.

As for the slowness and cartoonish iPhone.... I find the 3G deplorable, but the AT&T network in Maryland isn't top notch at all, easily being beat out by Sprint and Verizon in speed and reception.

The Cartoonish UI comes from iFart mobile primarily. :D

Why not? My Nokia E66 already syncs seamlessly with iTunes, iPhoto and Safari… why not the Palm?

Not to mention RIM's Blackberry Bold and the Blackberry Storm do also. All you need is the BB Desktop Manager.

Being able to dump music from iTunes onto the Pre would be an amazing feature. Syncing with iCal and Address Book and Mobile Me would just make it all the sweater.

Depending on the level and quality of syncing, it may just rip my lusting for the iPhone completely away.

Does anybody know where you can find good quality demo videos of WebOS? Ones that aren't from a shaky, over-the-shoulder perspective? I really want to check it out but I just can't stand the cheesy camera-work.

I haven't found one yet, but the ones on Youtube aren't that bad.

It seems that tech nerds don't know $h!t about tripods.

Here's some good ones...

[Engadget] - Mainly a walk through of the Pre's features (only 1 video)

[Gizmodo] - Lots of videos!

Thanks for the links, the one thing that I love most about the Pre besides it's coming out on Sprint, is that reviewers are actually giving it a fair review.

Palm knew they had to not only match the iPhone, but surpass it in many ways just to get a fair shot at an unbiased review from tech bloggers, and they did.

Thanks, but no thanks. I guess you missed the part where I said I didn't want shaky and over-the-shoulder camera shots. Nail down the device and nail down the camera and we can talk.

Well, maybe you can snap your fingers and they will magically appear. Until you do, what we have is what we have.

This will help push Apple into making the iPhone better - the camera does completely suck to be honest.

Downside is - this is the same as a chinese rip off. It even has a little app store? How original!

...and what we have sucks.

Yeah, your not going to get much better than that.. Most videos floating around the internet are from Palm's CES preview room, and it's not exactly a movie production in there.

However, here is the official keynote from Palm. That should do. :D

Oh, you mean the iPhone..... :D

Because the idea of an App store for mobile phones and other devices was done by Palm and Windows Mobile YEARS ago.

Same thing with the full touch screen display and gestures.

So, you're right, the iPhone does look like a Chinese rip off of the Pre doesn't it?
