Palm Pre to Launch June 6th Priced at $199.99

...

iPhone sends (hopefully correct) blood pressure data to doctor. Doctor prescribes medicine based on said data. If data is wrong, medicine is wrong => patient dies. Ergo.... iPhone KILLS!

Just about any device in the hands of an idiot can potentially kill the one idiot.

If a doc prescribes medicine and the kills an idiot because of misuse of a tool, then the doc is an idiot by association and should be banned from practicing medicine.

The iPhone is as smart as the user himself... Sometimes smarter.

Imagine if the Palm Pre had "COPY / PASTE" in their feature list.. lol..

"Now using 1970's technology.. we've mastered the Copy & Paste technique"

hahaha

well if most of the rumors are true. video recording compass , FM , faster processor, better camera, faster internet, better camera, auto focus , plus all awesome stuff with 3.0 copy, paste, push, and TONS more... i think this iphone will have everyohne forget the pre..plus the appstore.. their is not even an sdk yet for the pre. while apple is making it possible for you in 3.0 to check your freaking blood pressure and send it to your doctor.... i mean come on.. iphone kILLS

FWIW, this poll in NY Daily news shows Palm being desired almost 2 to 1 over next gen iPhone and 3G iphone combined...

Even I was surprised... I mean it's NY Daily, not some rural mid US town, or like some local newspaper advertising a movie, 5 STARS THRILLER, says Star News Nebraska. LOL, no offense if you live in Nebraska, but if you notice, when a movie does well, the overvoice says, CRITICS FORM TIME, LA TIMES, THE BOSTON GLOBE, ROLLING STONE, say.... and when it bombs, they says, CRITICS SAY and then show clips from local newspapers you never heard of, well, this is a big newspaper so it's a big deal and it's in one of the busiest towns in America, NYC

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be an Apple user. Some of you seem to follow Apple blindly and would be amazed even if they came with an iPoop on stage. Who needs common sense today? :D

I stopped telling friends to go Apple. A lot of idiots that hopped on the bandwagon really took it over the top.

It simple human nature...

to want the new "bells and whistles" on that comes to market. It's basic Consumer Creed --"Give me stuff: Free, or Cheap, and when I want it". Palm Pre will satisfy those folks that are teetering on the fence on when to jump into the market for one of these device. Yes, Palm Pre has all those features that most consumers have been asking (or expected) to have when buying one of these devices. It will be dubbed, at that time, to be one of the "best products ever!!". But like competition dictates: there is always someone out there that is going to one-up you. Ex. RIM one-up Apple in sales this last quarter after losing market share to them for the last 2 years. How? Well not by putting out better products, per say, but by flooding the market with BOGO! (Refer to Consumer's Creed).

Apple's approach is not trend driven, but what is the "best consumer experience" should be? Palm has taken the roll to give the consumer all those things that Apple doesn't...and do it better. This is Palm's advantage and will regain a bit of market share they had lost in the past. Apple is going to continue methodical ways, regardless. And shortly after Palm's introduction of their new device, Apple will one up them with their products this summer. We'll be back to our old ways and the cycle will begin all over again. :D

Do people forget that the iPhone is a PHONE first. Everyone talks about apps etc etc and fail to realize the biggest problem with the iPhone is the entire PHONE portion of it.

The phone part's perfect for me. It's not the phone's fault that one of it's carriers blows.

Several friends have Iphones - and the voice quality on all of them is much worse than average. (Verizon Windows Mobile phone on my end.)

I know immediately when my manager calls, his Iphone voice quality has always been terrible.

Just anecdotal, of course.

That still doesn't make it true that the phone part of the iPhone blows. I never had a dropped call, bad voice quality or constant switching between EDGE and 3G.

Alright how about we put a better description on that. It's an online poll embedded in an article about the Pre. What would you expect? Obviously the people who will see the poll are most likely interested in the Pre.

Really depends on what poll you look at. Engadget has the iPhone as having a huge demand vs. the Pre.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/19/poll-are-you-buying-a-palm-pre/

The Pre commercials better start rolling cause there's a lot of people out there who have no idea the Pre even exists.

Sprint and Verizon are godawful in Chicago. at&t, while having ****** service in some spots, is the best in Chicago. T-Mobile...don't even need to discuss that. Worst provider ever.

Since I don't live in Chicago, but was fairly sure you've been talking out of your anus this whole time, I looked up Consumer Reports for cellular providers in Chicago. Posting the graphic here is probably a violation of TOU, so I will summarize here.

Verizon places first with a rating of 70/100
T Mobile places second with a rating of 69/100
AT&T places third with 65/100
Right behind AT&T is Sprint, with 61/100

So, all of your blatantly biased hyperbole doesn't seem to quite stand up to the facts. Hope you had fun playing!

No, we cannot all agree that Verizon has the best coverage. It sucks in Chicago.

at&t is great in Chicago.

Sprint is awful in Chicago.

The only correct part of your post is the last sentence. It all depends on where you live and travel. You cannot just assume that Verizon has the best coverage because it doesn't.

Verizon is useless from Chicago all the way out to NIU in DeKalb. I'm "blessed" with a Blackberry Curve, and I have to go outside to use it pretty much anywhere in Chicagoland.

If Apple were to sue Palm, that'd be an epic failure. Are you aware of how many Palm patents Apple violates? :D

Hmm... where is my video recorder? Where is my gesture-enabled iPhone OS (and I'm not talking about pinching)? Where is my multitasking that a WM phone could do 2 years ago? But hey, it has an Apple logo on it, I have to deal with Apple's smugness.

Do you think people care about their /Applications folder?

No, but it does have an MS Office compatible suite. But I guess playing emulated games is more important than that.

I haven't heard that the Earth is not flat. It's not really that big of a deal anyway.
Palm OS has 50,000 apps already, most of them useful and not farting apps.

But isn't it NICE to have a device that doesn't stand in your way? Isn't it nice to not be annoyed when you want to switch to another app?

What should I do when I watch a show on my phone and then commercials come in and I want to browse the web? On the Pre I can just run both apps at the same time and know exactly when the show is back.

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be an Apple user. Some of you seem to follow Apple blindly and would be amazed even if they came with an iPoop on stage. Who needs common sense today? :D

You just contradicted yourself by saying not alot of people care about there /Applications folder yet your saying that the Pre has the 50,000 apps, which would I bet have an equal amount of useless/useful apps to the iPhone, but there is a reason why it is an emulated environment because it is going to be outdated soon.

The NES and GBA emu's were just examples of how the iPhone went jailbroken, is limitless. And for the reason alot of people care about what apps they have and what they actually can do with there iPhone, because I don't know anybody who would get an iPhone just to txt there frndz ya no?

You keep on comparing the Pre to the iPhone when it is locked down. So what if it doesn't have the features that you want (with the stock os)? Get the Pre then, I don't see a reason to bash the iPhone, or bash the Pre. They are both awsome phones in there own way and if anything I hate how the iPhone doesn't have many things it SHOULD have, but I learned to deal with it because the iPhone can do so much more then just fart apps, which everyone uses an excuse to make the iPhone look bad. If anything when the Pre comes out with its own store, I could imagine the only applications being fart apps as well, huh?

The ad says "Get ready to live in the now." By the time this comes out, the now will be the past. Get ready to live in the past? No, thanks.

Did I? I was talking about the file system itself, because you were talking about how wonderful it is to get full access to the file system and tinker with the phone to your hearts' content.

You keep on comparing the Pre to the iPhone when it is locked down. So what if it doesn't have the features that you want (with the stock os)? 1. I keep comparing the Pre to the locked down iPhone because that's how the iPhone comes from Apple! Your average iPhone user doesn't know about jailbreaking. In case he heard something about it, I bet it was the "jailberaking is illegal" part from Apple.

2. If a piece of functionality is missing from Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android or Pre, you can get an app/system extension from the web and put it on your phone. Good luck with that on the iPhone.

3a. "Get another thing then" is a common response that will lure users away from Apple. And we know what happened in the 90s when users chose another OS..

3b. This is also the reason Apple can do what they do. If this were Microsoft, people would be calling them "evil" all day long. If we, Apple users, aren't critical of them, they will make even more locked down products (see the new iPod shuffle).

4. I shouldn't have to deal with my devices. I shouldn't need to jailbreak to customize my iPhone, or to install "unapproved" apps.

5. I'm sure Palm users have more common sense than to buy fart apps. I'm also sure that App Catalog will not feature a lot of $0.99 apps.

Don't get me wrong, I love the iPhone, but a shiny interface doesn't replace the missing features, doesn't fix Apple's horrible relations with the developers and doesn't make the phone open. Pre, on the other hand, is as open as possible and Palm seems very consumer and developer friendly.

I agree - as said, people that read a Pre article are, obviously, the ones interested in it. It's surprising how many Pre lovers dominate the comments on Engadget, too - the ones that post are the ones that nearly worship the phone (even though the only thing they know so far is marketing).

The important thing to remember with that graph is that even if it was an accurate reading of the interest in the Pre as opposed to the iPhone, the iPhone has been on the market for a while. What would be far more accurate would be a graph comparing the Pre hype to the iPhone hype of 2007 - since we're talking about new phones here. People know the iPhone because it's been in their hands for two years and the interest dies off (marginally, at least) once it's in your hands.

Given that, I'm actually surprised (well, not really but you know what I mean) that people are still that worked up about the iPhone when you have newer contenders around the corner.

5. I'm sure Palm users have more common sense than to buy fart apps. I'm also sure that App Catalog will not feature a lot of $0.99 apps.
Right, because it's a statistical fact that Palm users are so much smarter than everyone else

3a. "Get another thing then" is a common response that will lure users away from Apple. And we know what happened in the 90s when users chose another OS..
How exactly will this 'lure people away' from Apple? Using that argument as a rebuttal doesn't really prove anything. By that same irrefutable logic, it's the same the response that will lure people away from Microsoft and Palm. Gosh with insight like that you could make millions as a stock trader..
</sarcasm>

I don't see much sense in any of your arguments tbh.

-
MacAndy74 - It's so original! Are you blind? :D

Right, because it's a statistical fact that Palm users are so much smarter than everyone else
They're smarter than people who worship a company blindly or who download[ed] things like iFart and I Am Rich anyway :D

Well, Microsoft did act like **** for 10 years thinking they could get away with it. People became frustrated and a lot of them switched to other platforms.
Apple screws up the consumer (see SlingPlayer, NetShare, non-WebKit browsers), implements features that existed on other smartphones with a 2-year delay and basically is an arrogant company nowadays thinking they can get away with it. How long do you think people will put up with this kind of attitude?

So Verizon and AT&T are within 5% of each other..

I actually LIVE in Chicago and used to LIVE in the Chicago suburbs. I had poor service with Verizon and I have no problems whatsoever with AT&T. Lots of 3G at home, work, friends places, bars, driving around, etc.

P.S. You suck
