Seems like the big guys who do reviews are liking the Pre UI and Multitasking & notification. Surpassing the iPhone there and in many areas. That lead for the iPhone just evaporated in less that 2 years.

Sigh, I'm ready for the Palm Pre Vs. 3rd Generation iPhone. Its pointless to compare it to the 3G one when its about to be irrelevant soon.

That would be a valid argument if we didn't already know what is in store for the OS. Some people think there will be big surprises above and beyond what we have already seen - they don't know Apple that well.

you can't hate on the Pre. It looks solid and very balanced throughout the whole phone. We NEED competition like this because not everyone has AT&T and can get an iPhone.

This is truly the first *real* iPhone competitor and not like RIM's pathetic Blackberry Storm attempt

like they actually WORKED on it from the ground up, not just slap on some touchscreen and call it a day :)

I can't wait for what Apple announces for the iPhone, whether they just show 3.0 or a brand new iPhone

Here I am, hating on the Pre:

1. No video recording.
2. Moving parts.
3. QWERTY keyboard is not staggered, and too small, thus unusable.
4. No iTunes DRM playback.
5. Bubbly UI is fugly.
6. Small screen.
7. 1.0 software and hardware.
8. The phone itself, in my opinion, is fugly.

There are many more reasons why I think this phone is a boatload of meh, those are just a few.

Basically, the Pre (from my experience) is the first product since the iPhone, that Apple could have actually produced. In other words, it doesn't feel like an iPhone knock-off. It's original, and had the Pre been an Apple product, it would impress any Apple fan just as much as the iPhone... and that's a strong statement.

I do agree. It is a good phone. But I would say the same thing about my Nokia 6230.

Correctamundo.

Well, we all know this IS the most advanced phone to ever hit the market.

You could say that again! It has features the Palm Pre could only dream of:

1. Video recording
2. No moving parts
3. Usable keyboard
4. Mature software
5. Mature hardware
6. GSM radio

There are many rumors of video recording software coming to the pre relatively soon, rumors nonetheless, but it's fairly likely. I personally will be buying a Pre. I've wanted an iPhone since the day it was introduced, but the Pre has won me over. All the reviews are very positive, and I myself played around with a non working display unit today at Best Buy. The keyboard isn't bad at all, and for me is more comfortable than the iPhone.

Honestly both phones are great, and both have advantages over the other. Competition is a great thing and will only make both the Pre and the iPhone better in the future. Multitasking is huge IMHO... browsing the web while streaming Pandora, or listening to the music app, while being able to text, mail, and or IM at once can't be beaten.

I will most likely be in line Saturday morning to pick up a Pre. Also, I'm on Sprint and my coverage is great. In my house, 3g doesn't work on the iPhone, it drops calls all the time. I can't justify paying for a phone that doesn't work in my house. Pre here I come!

7. The body style of brick.
8. A bedazzled version of the UI for the 6101
9. Terrible screen
10. No realistic audio, or video storage capabilities
11. Mature.....? Wait.... did we just today use the word "Mature" to describe a phone that was produced in 2003?

I'm pretty sure the Pre is more "mature" than an old block you can find for $26.75 at any Flea Market.

I mean, you realize that I was just being insulting to the Pre when I brought up the Nokia 6230. You... realize that, right? I don't ACTUALLY think the Nokia 6230 is better than the Pre, or even on the same level as the Pre.

Anyway, the 6230 could play videos. I remember watching Terminator on it. You had to convert it to a really low res 3gp video. But yeah, you could use MP3s as ringtones and such. I don't know what else you could have meant by "realistic audio."

And the OS was mature, it had been around since the '90s. Do you know what "mature" means when referring to software? Clearly not, since you're saying that 1.0 software is mature.

Thats what I don't get. Why are all these tech/blogger/journalist loving the Pre hardware design. It's the old sliding keyboard, round, chubby, short....hmmm I think I just described most of these bloggers. Thats why. LOL

Ok just kidding. Anyway the iPhone is one solid, sleek, symmetrical design. No moving parts to wear out, get in the way, just so futuristic to me compared to these up and coming phones.

My apologies for the extreme sarcasm. I tend to get a little edgy on forums for some reason. And as for mature hardware, and software... I thought you were making the point that the 6230 has matured now, in 2009. I didn't quite understand you were referring to the software.

Friends?

Wait until you hold one in your hand and use it to pass too much judgement guys, and read some of the reviews and video reviews that were all posted today. I understand it's all opinion and I respect that, but the Pre is surprisingly solid and well built, and it is perfectly sized in my opinion. Once again opinion. I understand Apple loyalty, and I understand how awesome the iPhone really is, but the Pre ain't no joke. Wait and try one out.

If apple came out with something that looks like the pre we wouldn't be bashing it at all, we would all be loving it like the iphone... To me it seems like a lot of people on here don't like a product unless it's an apple product... I think it's great that the pre is going to give the iphone a run for it's money.. That will make apple HAVE to make some serious changes to the product.. Just because it's a competitor we feel that we have to bash it.. Remember there is always a better product out there... The pre might be it.. We don't know yet because it hasn't been released yet but I give it until Mon, then we can see what kind of numbers they have..

P.S. I would love to be able to stream music while I text my friends at the same time.. I hope apple will finally be able to make this possible...

Agreed. People don't like the idea of a physical keyboard, and when I first saw photos of the Pre, I thought the same thing. But honestly, the Pre pulls it off very well. It doesn't feel like a cheap piece of plastic like the G1 and so many others. It's surprisingly well designed, and well put together: The best physical keyboard I've used.

Am I the only one who thinks the Pre is a boatload of meh?

I figure if it was an Apple product, you'd be jizzing all over it, instead of your above reaction. It's probably meh to you because you can't consider it objectively, and won't give it a fair shot. I like my iPhone, but I'm reasonable enough to judge a device by its merits. The Pre looks extremely solid, and what Ive seen has impressed me. It will only force Apple to up its game. It remains to be seen what the new iPhone will bring, but for now, the current iPhone and the Pre outclass each other in different areas. The Pre is definitely superior in some of these areas.

that is COMPLETELY false... please state your facts about this

the appstore is lightyears ahead of ANY and i mean ANY application store any phone is offer and that is FACT

Yes, the app store is about the only thing apple has going for them right now. With Pre you have:

- Multi Tasking (being able to listen to pandora and surf the net at same time)
- User replaceable battery
- Non intrusive notifications
- Universal Search including Google, Maps, Wiki, Twitter, Contacts, Apps. iPhone only has the last two
- "Synergy" Pulls contact info from facebook, automatically updates phone number, profile picture etc if user changes it
- Speed Dial without a 3rd party app
- Touch Stone. Nothing too impressive there, just a neat trick that is rather cool.

Plus, palm will be putting WebOS on different devices. If they make an all touch screen phone, with a virtual keyboard, iPhone is a goner.

edit: if apple can piece together a better notification system, and multi-tasking I will be purchasing that instead. But for the time being, pre is my next device.

Goner? Haha, ok. I doubt the iPhone will ever truly be a goner. Like the iMac is here to stay... so is the iPhone (Presuming Apple updates the phone every year or two). Apple has created an entire new fan base with this phone. People will always want the iPhone for what it is. A beautiful Apple product that fits their digital life style.

Ok, maybe not a goner but certainly a run for its money.

listening to the music app, while being able to text, mail, and or IM at once can't be beaten.

By "music app", are you talking about "iPod", or some other streaming player?

As to stay on topic, the Pre really doesn't offer anything more that I've been wanting in a phone that my iPhone doesn't already cover. I've been thoroughly pleased with my iPhone, and have no reason go head anywhere else. (I'm not a huge "techie", if that means anything)

Network coverage is always a YMMV thing, all we can do is go by personal experiences. I have Sprint as my work phone, and a lot of times I have to use it to make personal calls because my AT&T phone has no signal.

this is why I just got rid of my iphone, I had an iphone for a little over 8 months, and I had a sprint work phone, my iphone was my personal phone, after going thru 3 iphones, and not being able to make calls on a regular basis, I decided to get rid of it and sell it.
I liked the phone but the network it was on was a disaster, I live in santa clarita and friends and family couldn't call me or get a hold of me on many occasions because of the network not being on or searching for a signal.

I don't have these issues with sprint.
