I'm curious if Parallels could somehow negotiate with Microsoft themselves to be an OEM, and sell Windows ARM themselves and install automatically thru the interface, without having to get it externally.

Otherwise I think if that doesn't happen (or MS doesnt allow purchase of ARM separately), Parallels as a company is probably dead in a few years, once the old Intel Macs begin to be outdated.
My guess is that you’re right. But then, a year ago, I was starting to believe that Apple had lost its ability to innovate. That certainly changed. I give Parallels until the end of 2022 to at least get to third base. After that, I’m done.

Has anyone figured out how to install a virtual Machine of Big Sur for M1 within Parallels Technical preview for M1? I went over to the App store while on my M1 Mac Mini and downloaded the latest Big Sur Universal, but parallels will not recognize or let me install it as a virtual machine. I would like to install it to experiment without running the risk of damage to my operating system on the actual mac. I even tried creating a .dmg install disk for Big Sur while on my M1 but it always fails. Is there a way to do this yet?

It is possible to install a virtual machine of Big Sur on the intel mac running Parallels 16.

I've got the most current Windows on ARM Insider Preview Build installed, and for kicks I just tried installing ACID Pro 8 from CD-ROM via an Apple SuperDrive connected with a USB-C Adapter, and it works! I was able to get all of the loops and Virtual Instruments installed, too. This was one of the few apps I had assumed I'd no longer be able to use after getting my M1 MBP. I'm beyond thoroughly impressed. I've got a huge folder of 7-13 year old projects I can finally mess around with again.

Yes, I use Quicken 2020 for Windows and it works about the same on the M1 MacBook Air as it did on my Ice Lake MacBook Pro.
Let me be certain what you are saying. Are you saying that the preview for Parallels supports using Quicken Windows 2020 inside a virtual machine on an M1 Mac? If that is what you are saying, have you noticed any issues with the pre-release version? Have you tried to use QWin with the version that was just released today?

I just went thru and updated all of my VM's after updating from the Tech Preview to the official release, and then subsequently updated Parallels Tools on all of the VM's, too. I've had an issue with Ubuntu's Software Updater going to just a blank window, and that now seems to be fixed and I'm able to update software and install new software normally again. That's really been my only issue thru the beta process, and now that that's resolved I'm happy.

I'm still shocked I was able to install Acid Pro 8 from a live CD, let alone use it with the very large projects I was creating before. Seems like the "transition" to compatible WoA supported apps rests solely on Microsoft at this point. They'd be crazy to not take advantage of the additional revenue. I mean, it's folks like us that do the testing for them. I'm also fine with just jumping down to the slow Dev channel.

Wow... Acid Pro... that takes me back 20 years!

I still have a bunch of loop collections I bought back then!

Yes it works just as if I were running it on a native Windows machine. Quicken is a 32-bit app, and Windows on ARM has supported 32-bit Windows apps for some time now. The insider builds added support for 64-bit Windows apps.

Note that if you just need to run Quicken, a cheaper alternative is CodeWeavers Crossover. It is a WINE app that works on M1 Macs. Quicken for Windows is a little slower and flakier running on WINE than on Windows on ARM but it works reasonably well. For example, the credit score window doesn’t appear though your score will update every quarter.
