Really happy with this! Windows 11 runs quite well and the games run great too. Now I am just hoping that AoE4 can play on this through Xbox Game Pass and that will be the icing on the cake!

Have you played AoE2 DE in this manner? if so how has been your experience resolution and graphic settings wise? have you installed the enhanced graphics pack? thank you…

Oops… forgot to ask if you’re using an AS Mac, lol.

? I think you're responding to the wrong post. I didn't say anything about it being supported or not.

I'm not. You were arguing against buying a separate machine to run Windows on because you're only running one program. Fair enough, but if that program is critical to your work, it might still be worth it.

There was an update yesterday (12.2.0) that promises better Windows 11 support. Not sure about M1.
Good to hear. I use Windows for work on my Intel Mac (not going to get into all the reasons this is better for me, but it is) so I’m sticking with Win10 until VMWare supports it without issues. I’d been worried they wouldn’t, but this is a good sign. I don’t want to switch to Parallels for all the reasons mentioned in this thread.

Macrumors - where is it you get this subscription only nonsense from. This is the second time you have posted this wrong statement without correcting your errors. Makes me question what else you say that is wrong.

PS - I have been running Windows 11 for several months on a prior version of parallels that is two years out of date.

I have several programs critical to my work and it still isn’t worth it. And I say that as someone with two work-issued PCs that I could fire up at any time, I wouldn’t have to buy anything.

I am so tired of people who think they know what other people need.

In late 2021 I do not understand the need to run Windows on a Mac??? Everything you need has been ported long ago, is web based, or has a fantastic alternative.
True, you don't understand. No, not everything has been ported or has a fantastic alternative, and having all I need on just one machine is incredibly convenient.

I tried Parallels about 8 years ago, but quickly switched back to VMware Fusion. At the time, the installer installed a "Parallels Access" app without asking, which signed you up for a service on their remote servers and logged you in automatically. (I believe it was supposed to provide some sort of "Back to Your Mac" service, which I definitely did not want.) They also made Parallels Access difficult to kill and/or remove.

I haven't tried Parallels since, but now it looks like the clear way forward, with VMware seemingly losing interest in VMware Fusion.

For those of you who use modern versions of Parallels, do they still do similar slimy things, or have they cleaned up their act?
I wouldn’t give up on Fusion so fast. VMWARE is probably waiting for the dust to settle before they make their move… let Parallels spin its wheels in the sand. I found Parallels marketing to be too greedy

People were, and still are, because of this: “Windows 11 compatibility with Intel Macs and Apple Silicon Macs, with the proviso that owners of the latter are using Insider Preview builds of Windows 11 for ARM machines.” The problem remains.
That's another part of the article which is incorrect. The released (non-Insider-Preview) Win11 installs, runs fine, and receives updates perfectly well on M1 under Parallels.

I've owned Parallels for a long time and it can get you where you need to go "most of the time" if you really need windows. But, MOST people IME, load Parallels to play games. If your into AAA games forget it. NO direct x 12 support period. If you play older or Indy games give it a try. Office apps do work fine. But, if you need windows get a windows machine.

This version of Parallels also improves graphics for several Windows games including, but not limited to: World of Warcraft
1 - World of Warcraft is available natively on mac though, unless something changed in the 10 years since I last looked at it?

2 - World of Warcraft's engine is just an iteration on the Warcraft 3 engine, first released in 2002... it's as old as the GameCube and original Xbox - I should certainly hope it runs well on machines made 20 years later.

(Although... Starcraft 2 was an iteration on the Warcraft 3 engine as well, and I recall Starcraft 2's engine would crush my 2007 iMac in custom games, even though it could run everything in Warcraft 3 at 200 FPS without breaking a sweat... so Blizzard certainly made some major changes to that engine during the years following its initial debut...)

Unless you run specific equipments that has not been ported and has no alternative...

I will never use Parallels again after their vile policy change that forced me into buying their product twice. I was happily using their software at home and at work (obviously, only in one place at a time) and then they suddenly changed their licensing policy to a per seat thing vs a per user thing. One day I went to use the software, that I effing owned, at work and got a message saying the license was already in use elsewhere and that I have to make a whole new purchase to use it. I had to make that purchase because I was in a bind, but that act of greed lost them a customer for life. This was all within the same version to - no grandfathering of their existing license scheme for current users or anything.

Didn't I read somewhere that the ARM version of Windows needed to run Windows on M1 isn't going to be supported by Microsoft much longer? I forget if it was Windows 10 ARM or Windows 11, though. In any case, I found too many apps did not work under Parallels on my M1 MacBook. Waste of time.

I suspect I would be if I could get it to install. It's not showing up in my list of updates and my virtual PC doesn't meet the specs despite upgrading to PD17.1

Did you miss this bit:

Insider Preview builds of Windows 11 for ARM machines.

Which is not a viable approach for anyone who will have to rely on running Windows on Apple Silicon. Could stop working at the drop of a hat with no possible basis for complaint. Microsoft tell people never to use such builds for live work.

Nor does it help those who need to run Intel-only 64-bit Windows apps.

People were, and still are, because of this: “Windows 11 compatibility with Intel Macs and Apple Silicon Macs, with the proviso that owners of the latter are using Insider Preview builds of Windows 11 for ARM machines.” The problem remains.

And thus the reason it may still be better to buy an Intel Mac and Windows 10. Which is a shame as Windows 11 on Arm Macs seems to work quite well. But we can't blame Microsoft for not supporting a competitor. Mind you with thunderbolt 4 the new Surface Pro 8 may be a reasonable backup solution? For a price. But allows for the latest Arm Mac to be purchased too.
