Macrumors - where is it you get this subscription only nonsense from. This is the second time you have posted this wrong statement without correcting your errors. Makes me question what else you say that is wrong.
PS - I have been running Windows 11 for several months on a prior version of parallels that is two years out of date.
I regularly use RDP from my M1 Mac mini (Big Sur 11.6) to a Dell Optiplex 7020 (Windows 10 - up to date) using wifi. Both systems natively use the same physical monitor so there is no scaling issue. Full-screen or windowed. (I often use RDP between Windows machines with different sized screens.)Is anyone having issues using Windows Remote Desktop connection with any M1?
My M1 wouldn’t remote connect but my intel mac mini remote connect just fine
I’ve tried everything out there. Parallels support said it’s Microsoft issue. I have used Parallels since at least V4 possibly earlier and it has always been a per seat usage and never per user. Yes I agree it's an insult to insist on a separate license that will never be used at the same timeI will never use Parallels again after their vile policy change that forced me into buying their product twice. I was happily using their software at home and at work (obviously, only in one place at a time) and then they suddenly changed their licensing policy to a per seat thing vs a per user thing. One day I went to use the software, that I effing owned, at work and got a message saying the license was already in use elsewhere and that I have to make a whole new purchase to use it. I had to make that purchase because I was in a bind, but that act of greed lost them a customer for life. This was all within the same version to - no grandfathering of their existing license scheme for current users or anything.
The irony, when the most American car is a Toyota Tundra.I get what you're going for, but calling a Mac a BMW is insulting. Foreign cars are garbage.

If you need Windows then buy a Windows machine, it's about having the right tool for the job.
I love my MachBook and use it for all my personal stuff. However it's useless to me for work where I need to run Windows. I do run Windows 11 in Parallels on my Mac, but if it stopped working tomorrow it would be annoying, but wouldn't stop me paying the bills.
I haven’t played AoE2 DE in parallels so I can’t comment but I have played Rome 2:Total War and that runs quite well on my M1 MacBook Air (yes I have AS). By quite well, I mean it gets around 30-40 fps, which is quite decent for an Air, running on emulation and virtualisation. Resolution is around 2560x1440 and I have some settings toned down - I find 1920x1080 to be the sweet spot for running games at around 50-60fps on the Air.Have you played AoE2 DE in this manner? if so how has been your experience resolution and graphic settings wise? have you installed the enhanced graphics pack? thank you…
Oops… forgot to ask if you’re using an AS Mac, lol.
I suspect I would be if I could get it to install. It's not showing up in my list of updates and my virtual PC doesn't meet the specs despite upgrading to PD17.1
Alrighty then. Your pretzel logic has persuaded me to buy Windows box. Now…which one…I'm not. You were arguing against buying a separate machine to run Windows on because you're only running one program. Fair enough, but if that program is critical to your work, it might still be worth it.
That wasn’t really my point, but OK.Alrighty then. Your pretzel logic has persuaded me to buy Windows box. Now…which one…
I must have had the wrong end of the stick, I was actually talking about Win11.I haven’t played AoE2 DE in parallels so I can’t comment but I have played Rome 2:Total War and that runs quite well on my M1 MacBook Air (yes I have AS). I’m expecting the new MBPs to take this further.
I can’t get it to install using the Xbox app too - keeps giving me an error which is unhelpful. I’m now thinking of buying it on Steam and trying that way, but I’ll wait for the official release before I do try it.
Oh sorry lol! I had Win10 installed and it auto installed Win11 at some point a few months ago. I’ve now got the stable version running and it’s also activated - runs well. Did you try the installer for Windows that Parallels comes with it? Hope you’ve got the right ISO.I must have had the wrong end of the stick, I was actually talking about Win11.
Yeah if you have ARM software, then it could be handy I guess. In our design office, for Solidworks, Catia, Revit and Inventor work, it's un/fortunately the Surface lineup for a portable solution from here on out. Pro's it works and gives you on-screen drawing tablet functionality in a single device, Cons, obvious, but they mean that there's still a good case to be made for a nice old mojave iMacs on the desktop though, while they're available in good shape. Decent power, but with sufficient cooling, useful ports, 64 and 32bit application compat, and getting to use mac apps for admin work and windows kept on a leash for CAD & win-only utilities. It's pretty unbeatable to have to test or install some terrible old software to recover some clients archival project data, and just grab the win7 or XP vm, install it, recover on to the network, and then dispose of the vm 2 seconds later like it never happened. Any time we need windows, it's just as quick to use a fresh install, and avoid rafting up reg problems and clutter. And thus the reason it may still be better to buy an Intel Mac and Windows 10. Which is a shame as Windows 11 on Arm Macs seems to work quite well. But we can't blame Microsoft for not supporting a competitor. Mind you with thunderbolt 4 the new Surface Pro 8 may be a reasonable backup solution? For a price. But allows for the latest Arm Mac to be purchased too.
Actually, it does. The latest Windows will run 64 bit Intel apps under emulation. Not nearly as well as the Mac does, but it's functional.Nor does it help those who need to run Intel-only 64-bit Windows apps.
Related question: will the existing version of Fusion on my MacBook Pro carry on working (Windows 10 VM) when I upgrade to Monterey?
Yes, I did miss that but, thank you for pointing it outDid you miss this bit:
Insider Preview builds of Windows 11 for ARM machines.
Which is not a viable approach for anyone who will have to rely on running Windows on Apple Silicon. Could stop working at the drop of a hat with no possible basis for complaint. Microsoft tell people never to use such builds for live work.
Nor does it help those who need to run Intel-only 64-bit Windows apps.
☝️This was observation from the forums in here.I thought people were moaning they will not be able to install windows on M1 Mac and therefore the M1 macs are useless.
uhhh, no. Windows 11 didn't auto install at some point a few months ago. That's not even remotely possible.Oh sorry lol! I had Win10 installed and it auto installed Win11 at some point a few months ago. I’ve now got the stable version running and it’s also activated - runs well. Did you try the installer for Windows that Parallels comes with it? Hope you’ve got the right ISO.
1. Windows 11 needs that special chip. You can download a copy of Windows 11 that will work without the chip, however you need a Windows machine to download the ISO.I am completely clueless about all this VM windows stuff, but was curious about windows 11. Thought I could install it using BootCamp on my venerable 2015 MBP, but nope......my startup disc didn't have enough space, whatever that means.....
Tried the trial of parallels, and it looked cool.......but apparently I need to buy a license key of windows 11 to activate it, even within parallels?
At that point, I gave up and deleted parallels.
Again, I'm clueless about all this, and really wanted to try windows 11, since none of the machines I own, or work on, appear to be compatible.
Just a reminder why, for my own use, I walked away from windows 6 years ago.
IMHO, not worth the effort.
Along these lines I wonder what Apple engineers, designers, etc. are going to do once they completely transition away from x86. Right now they surely use boot camp or vmware fusion/parallels to run their design/engineering software. I'm sure they must use a ton of Windows only software to engineer their products. Are they just going to end up buying Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. machines for their engineering/design work? Unless maybe they already do that.Yeah if you have ARM software, then it could be handy I guess. I'm running AoE2 DE on my Retina 5K Intel iMac in Parallels, on Windows 10 and it runs really well. I haven't done the enhanced graphics pack yet though.Have you played AoE2 DE in this manner? if so how has been your experience resolution and graphic settings wise? have you installed the enhanced graphics pack? thank you…
