Maybe the latest build will fix it, but between windows updates and kaspary database rebuilds, I've yet to actually get any work done on my VM (running Windows 7). Plus delays/hangs on the mac side are awful. Will update this post if things improve, but so far this is turning out to be another example of not buying v.X.o of anything.

Could you please run your Windows 7, then go to top menu -> Help -> Report a Problem

then paste the problem report ID right in this thread? I'd like to help you, but please give some hint

Does anyone know the difference between the regular parallels and a student version? What lacks in the student version for it to be half the price?

Also, I have two macs. Do I need to buy parallels for each one?

Thank you.

I don't understand all the posts on here complaining about how often they release paid updates. You seem to be implying that you're somehow being forced or at least pressured into buying the upgrades, but you're not. If your current version is working fine for you then keep using it. Why would you switch to VMware when your current version of Parallels is working fine for you, just because Parallels released a new version?

Ah yes... Kudos for the voice of reason.

I use a variety of software applications of various vintages. In fact on the PC side of my work, I use MS Office 2003 which has always been a favorite and does everything I need very well. As much as I use it, and nearly all it's features, I've more than gotten my money out of it. I'm not about to upgrade to a newer version just because "It's the latest" or has a few features that I may or may not use.

A similar argument can be made (on the hardware side) about the usefulness of my 15" 2002 G4 PowerBook Ti. Running OS X 10.5.9 it's perfect for casual use, I've taken exceptional care of it, and it looks like new. One of my most reliable Mac Laptops, I've only replaced the battery. I maxed it out with 1GHz / 1GB when I bought it new and it's served me well.

Don't get me wrong, my 15" hi-res anti-glare mid 2010 i7 MBP is a rocket with 8GB, for the design work I do, and yet there's not a bloody thing wrong with not having the latest.

Cheers... :)

The student version has no any limitation, the purpose is make Parallels Desktop affordable for students. Only student can buy it. In order to buy it, you need to provide Student ID or have an .edu email address which will be validated in online store( approach depends on retailer) .

Also, I have two macs. Do I need to buy parallels for each one?

Yes, PDfM license is for only one machine so you need 2 licenses.

Seriously Hacked Off at Parallels

I am so annoyed with the PATHETIC customer focus, support and care that I have had with Parallels.

On June 30, 2011 I handed over $120 for the Parallels 6/Kaspersky package only to find two months later Parallels 7 has been launched. So I think great I should be able to upgrade to the new version like many other software titles I own.

Boy has my blood pressure been boiling since! I find out that Parallels are only concerned with blatantly ripping off their customers by refusing to focus on being fair to their customer. I'm offered the standard $30 discount to upgrade, with a price tag of $50.

Then I find out I may be in luck after seeing phrases like '6 month upgrade protection' and inquire at Kaspersky because I wasn't offered this extra to find out it was only offered between July 14-31.

I have now uninstalled Parallels and am looking to purchase an alternative, suggestions welcomed! This is for me not about the money, although I don't like wasting it, its about fairness and Parallels are just dollar thirsty jerks.
