And what if they don't pay? then you also are out the $50 bucks for that month. Not worth it.

1. you can suspend the line without billing.
2. customer needs to pay in advance.

but again, most MHS customers already got their $45 plan by now. :p

If you have a real business, and has the personnel to do it. A tech savvy book-keeper. 25 year old trouble shoot person. You'd need sim card galore, people come on-off your plans month to month. Paypal fees.. etc, etc.

I am sure not for the faint of hearts....

absolutely. People who are in the know, already got their $45 plans. You have a bunch of dummies, who never mange to get on even basic UDP's to begin with. Those are the one renting these lines from you.

Cheap Flip from Verizon: 10
I just called TMoible, they will only pay a $350 ETF if you had a smartphone line on Verizon and buy a smartphone on TMobile. So no, just as I suspected, you have to trade-in a smartphone and buy a smartphone if you want them to pay the $350 smartphone ETF.

So the analysis is this:

$215 cost of 16GB iPhone 6 + sales tax
$625 sale price (this is more realistic)
Total = $405

After 2 months of service for $100, you are now down to $305. Obviously if you sell online you have to subtract out paypal/listing and shipping fees, too.

You also have to buy a new smartphone from TMobile and trade-in an old Verizon smartphone. You would have to price it out to know for sure how much that would be.

But you are right and triton is wrong, you are looking at coming out with very little profit off of this transaction.

You would have them pay for each month in advance and if they didn't pay for the next month, you simply activate a different device on the line and that kicks their SIM card off of the line. Then you suspend the line w/o billing until you get a new renter.

The biggest worry is that Verizon would be able to see all of these lines with huge data usage and that this would trip some sort of flag in their system. They would be able to tell the location of the devices obviously and if you had them scattered all over the country, they certainly could suspend your account for suspected reselling of their service and then investigate you. I think you could get away with a couple of lines but not sure you could get away with 10 lines using huge amount of data and no minutes or texts on your account.

----------

1. you can suspend the line without billing.
yes and then if they don't pay in the requested time, just activate a different device/SIM card on the line and then send that SIM card to some one else.

Marky can supply you with SIM cards for that.

Totally gonna quibble with calling people dummies for not noticing this thread on this tiny corner of the internet. Not everybody has time to read slickdeals, howards, macrumors, etc.

Plenty of smart tech-savvy people out there who would love to have a $45 UDP MHS plan with verizon. This is just not on their radar. I did tell my office mate about it and he seemed to think it all seems a little shady, so even if people hear that you can buy unlimited plans on ebay, they are not likely to pull the trigger especially if the plans are still the NW 700 or NW family 1400 plans that cost $100 plus per month. Not everyone really values unlimited data on mobile since they have internet at their home/office/coffee shop/gym/etc. (basically everywhere except in the car, where you shouldn't really be using the internet anyway)

I on the other hand love my new $45 unlimited MHS. It is my only telecom expense per month now and will soon be my only monthly bill since I am going to quit my job and go live in the national forests in an RV.

We are not being called dummies, the dummies are the eBay buyers that have a bazillion questions that make no sense at all.

I know the T-Mobile part. I was just using his example of $10 flip phone to make a point. I know you need to trade in a cheap smart phone to get $350. Flip phone will get T-Mobile to reimburse $175.

Not everyone really values unlimited data on mobile since they have internet at their home/office/coffee shop/gym/etc. (basically everywhere except in the car, where you shouldn't really be using the internet anyway)
The $45/mo UDP MHS is meant to replace your home internet. It is particularly valuable to those people in rural areas who do not have the option of wired internet.

We are not being called dummies, the dummies are the eBay buyers that have a bazillion questions that make no sense at all.

Make no sense to you maybe. I would expect ebay buyers are not just jerking you around. They probably don't have a clue how this stuff works. It is kinda convoluted. When I first starting reading this thread I had a lot of questions, most of which were answered quickly (thanks a bunch JulesJam)

Give an example of a question that makes "no sense at all" ?

Flip phone will get T-Mobile to reimburse $175.
Actually they won't even reimburse the $175 because the final bill will show a $350 etf. They will only reimburse what is on the final bill (you have to submit it) and they won't reimburse you $350 if you buy new flip phones from them. Since your final bill doesn't say $175 as the etf, you will get nothing from them. And you won't know that until you have paid them $100 for 2 months of service.

Did you even finish reading my msg? I said "not everyone really values ..."
And then in the next paragraph I implied the existence of people for whom MHS is their only internet option, ie RV folks.

Speaking of eBay dummies I'm selling my last iPhone on there and made the mistake of putting unlocked in title which I never do but made the exception and now I'm fielding 20 ?s a day asking if it can be used in other carriers especially tmo. I did read on another's persons eBay that said unlocked that can be used on vzw att and tmo but not sprint. I thought that was a lil weird

I apologize if the term offends you, sincerely.

Dummies in this case are those who knew they needed the service, they've seen the service, and could not get the service. For whatever reasons.

Your clientele already limited. Because people, like your friend, who may just think this is not "legit" and able to pay the big red 150 bucks a month for X GB will not be part of this. That leave most of people who would rent the service, poorer or less educated. That's where I was going with this.

I certainly understand most people would not look for this corner of the internet. My wife would have never cared whether she had unlimited data or not. She's rather be on Macy's or Bloomingdale's website.... Now she can be on those sites with her iphone without ever worry.... Just saying.

It's simple math. Buying a $650 phone on an installment plan to get reimbursed for a $350 ETF doesn't make sense no matter how you slice or dice it, unless you were planning to purchase the $650 phone anyway.

I give the same advice for people who want to move from Verizon to AT&T or T-Mobile. Just pay the ETF and take your Verizon LTE phone with you, especially if it's a newer phone like the iPhone 5S that supports all the AT&T and T-Mobile LTE bands. There's no sense in "trading it in" to T-Mobile or AT&T to get them to "pay your ETF" and then buying a brand new $650 phone from them.

No... I don't want to post an example. The point is, that you have to thick skinned, and ready to deal with a lot of questions. I don't personally think that all the eBay customers are actually stupid, but it does take a good amount of time an patience to deal with it. That is what the other poster was referring to.:)

I also have 2 iPhones I need to sell. Not many biters so far. Don't want to sell on eBay as the fees are too high.

Give an example of a question that makes "no sense at all" ?
Here's an example:

Dummy: Can I get unlimited minutes and texts on the $45/mo plan?

Me: Yes you can but then the plan would not cost $45/mo, it would cost $120/mo. The $45/mo plan is best suited for a tablet or a MiFi device as it only has 30 minutes and no texts.

Dummy: So in order to get unlimited minutes and texts on the $45/mo plan it would cost more?

Me: Yes, it would.

Dummy: OK thanks but $120/mo is too much money. I only wanted to pay $45/mo.

Here is another example:

Dummy: I am interested in your Verizon $45/mo plan. I have the Sprint SERO plan for $50/mo but if I could get the same thing on Verizon, which has a better signal, speeds and coverage than Sprint, for $5 less per month I would love it. How many minutes does it come with? I get 500 anytime minutes now and unlimited mobile, nights and weekends and unlimited data too.

Me: Well the $45/mo plan only comes with 30 minutes, no texts and it doesn't even include free Verizon mobile or nights and weekend minutes. It is not meant for a phone, it is meant for a tablet or a MiFi device but in an emergency, you could pop the SIM card into a phone if you needed to make a call.

Dummy: So what are my options to get unlimited data and a phone line with a decent amount of minutes and texts on Verizon for under $50/mo?

Me: There are no options like that.

Dummy: Well I don't want to switch from Sprint then.

Me: OK well then don't. As you noted Verizon has a much better signal, speeds and better coverage. If you can live with Sprint's signal, speeds and coverage then do it.

Dummy: I think I will. It just would have been nice to get the same thing I am paying for on Sprint but on Verizon's better network and for less money.

Me: Yes, that would be nice.

Just put in the description that it can be used on Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T. The carriers, particularly AT&T and Sprint, got people used to the idea that they need a new phone whenever they change carriers. I think very few people are actually aware that all Verizon LTE phones are unlocked (Verizon certainly doesn't advertise that fact), or that it is easy to get T-Mobile to unlock a phone, or that even AT&T will unlock a phone at the end of your contract.

I read it but you missed my point which was the largest group of people who want these don't use them for mobile hot spots at all - they are used to replace your home internet.

No offense taken. It does seem like some people took this loophole a little too far. I was only ever interested in getting a UDP. Flipping phones and profiting from a loophole to the extent that some here have done seems unethical. That is just my opinion obviously and they have clearly done nothing illegal. I sincerely hope that this is not a common thing for some on this thread, obsessing over deals and finding loopholes to exploit is a sad commentary on consumer culture. As the song says, get a haircut and get a real job.

I wouldn't call either of them "dummy" questions. They want to know if someone found a loophole or a really old grandfathered plan that might give them a significant amount of minutes and data at a lower price than what they are paying (sort of like the ancient "rollover minutes" plan I have with AT&T). Remember, it's not that the $45 plan is even advertised as an option by Verizon, so someone not knowing the terms is understandable.

You will encounter a lot of "stupid" questions from Ebay. You are not just selling iPhones or Lines only... you are selling "service" too. Most of them don't know how the system works. You really need to explain steps by steps. I bet 90+% of Verizon Customers don't even know about Assumption of Liability process. I was one of them until I discover this thread from SD.

It's not an easy task.

anyway, let's get back to mac products.
does iphone 5 at&t version can be used on verizon? probably not, if i remember correctly. Not all the bands are there.

I think iphone 6, regardless which version, has all the bands built in. I think Sprint just maintain a list of their devices, if you bring a phone from Verizon, they may just not let you be on the network...

Where is S.Tim?

----------

Can anybody confirm that add a new UDP line to FS 700 on apple.com is still working?

yes, did not pick up. but still available to pick unlimited data.

The CDMA radios aren't turned on in the GSM iPhone 5 or 5s. They are turned on in the 6 and 6 Plus. I was using a T-Mobile iPhone 6 on Verizon when I AOLed my first line in, but only after I had activated the SIM card on a Verizon iPhone 5c first. The T-Mobile phone showed up as an "Unknown, Non-VZW" device.
