wondering why apple didn't simply use the design of the ipod touch, which is way more attractive than any iOS device so far

Do you think the 5S will break any preorder or 1st month sales records based on the rumored specs? I'm genuinely asking. I just think the 5S is gonna be the least popular & uneventful launch in iPhone history. Hope I'm dead wrong.

1st month preorder record should not be a problem. It is the sales number afterward that worries me.

I fear 5S would be the quickest one to tapers off on sales number, after early adopters and nerds scoop up the first lot, but Joe and Jane Average turn it down for something cheaper with better deals, especially if their apps are 'good enough' on any other platforms.

You have got to be kidding. Judging a phone by playing with the demo is crazy. Those phones get molested in the first 30 minutes after being out on display. I own an iPhone 5 and a Galaxy S4. I'm not going to bash the iPhone to make the S4 look good. Yet that's what Android haters do. It's a sign of lack of knowledge for haters to perpetually repeat the same old FUD. Surely you can't be serious.

First impression is everything.

Would you buy a phone that didn't work as expected when you demo it?

While you see that it's a demo device (and thus "molested") your average joe won't see anything else but a slow and choppy device with good specs.

And good specs != instant buy.

Not bashing the S4, but it's food for taught isn't it?

If you had any sort of knowledge, you'd know that article and data quoted is full of misleading and completely wrong information.

Take 5 mins and educate yourself then come back with the 'correct' information..which isn't what you think it is.

Here I'll even help you:

Twice in the past week, AppleInsider's Daniel Eran Dilger has published detailed analyses of Strategy Analytics' data that strongly suggest a pro-Samsung bias.

• The first questioned SA's report that Samsung had "dethroned Apple" in mobile profits.
• The second accused SA of "rewriting history" to prove that the iPad's share of the tablet market had shriveled to 28.3%.

The latter report is especially damning because Strategy Analytics' seems to have inflated its earlier estimates of Android tablet sales by more than 11 million units.

You are quoting DED? That clown? Now you're clutching straw.

The good reason for Samsung to push its own store-within-a-store in Best Buy. They'll keep getting a raw deal if all they got for demo are the ones in carrier stores.

The retina iPad mini will also have phone capability :D That will be the next "one more thing". Take that phablet market

Yeah, let's all carry 7.9" devices and use them as phones. Facepalm.

It's actually a good point; a main difference between the mini and the "full size" iPads is that there's no cellular data connection option. I never opted for the 3G models, but I can see the mini branching into a wifi and 3G/4G set of models.

U got me wrong. I would never switch over to anything else at this point. I'll be up at 3am per-ordering the 5S no matter what. Just like I've done with every iPhone release. I just think more this year then any the S cycle isn't gonna cut it much longer. I don't know why I have that feeling and I don't really know what I want. I leave that to apple to figure out. But when I think of the 5S getting a speed bump, new camera, and possibly a FP sensor (which I am excited about) I wonder if it'll be enough to last until late 2014. They have the App Store and ecosystem locked down right now. And I think that's their ultimate goal. But hardware wise, I think they will be surpassed by the time the 6 rolls around. It's happening right now and I hate the current competition. Most people but phones based on hardware alone. They don't even think about the smoothness and uniformity of the ecosystem. Some do, but the majority don't. They think the phone looks cool, so they buy it.

After outwaiting the iPhone until the 3GS, I have been on the 4S for contract reasons.

The 4S does everything I need it to do, which is probably the same for most users.

I don't want a bigger screen, but will upgrade to the 5S. It's still reasonable in size.

The spec hounds need to understand that the entire smartphone category has matured to a point where there isn't much "innovative" one can pack into it.

If anything the memory options need to go up and start at 32GB.

Some of the features spec hounds are claiming they must have I lived all my life without, so I am not missing a thing.

Never compare Android phones with iPhones, as that entire concept is of no interest to me.
They did a good job copying and whoever likes that can just buy Android phones.

Good to have options.

Complaining that a company doesn't offer all the options for ones personal preferences is ridiculous!

iPad about as Good as it Gets?

Personally, I'm waiting for the iPad 5 to come out before upgrading my iPad 2. I've tried to get the 128 a couple of times this year. For me the upgraded Camera of the iPad 4 and LTE were the main draw. However, ATT's LTE service pretty much sucks and when comparing them side by side, I just couldn't justify keeping it, especially since it was $1,000.

Has the iPad reached a point where there really much Apple can do with the hardware other than a few "useless" spec bumps?

Do we have any pictures of the left side of the iPad 5 case? I'm curious if it will work with the Logitech ultrathin keyboard.

My intent is to _discuss_ not argue. I happen to be a huge smartphone enthusiast that enjoys all platforms for their various strengths. While I do have a slight brand bias towards Apple after two decades as a customer / shareholder, that doesn't impact my willingness to acknowledge their pros and cons.

The advantage Apples iPhone has in a demo environment is its settings are not subject to be as easily fiddled with as Androids. That's in the carriers retail stores. In Apple stores they are closely monitored & maintained constantly throughout the day as sales associates walk the floor. It's a brilliant strategy to showcase Apple products at their best.

The carrier "in-store" experience can't possibly be the same since not only do they have a large variety of phones, but their focus is purely sales volume, thus no one assures the phones are operating properly.

Android most certainly have their faults as does any platform including Apple. When posters here talk honestly about issues that's what the forum is for. It furthers our knowledge & enjoyment. Conversely when they just spew questionable criticisms for the purpose of being right or putting down a platform, that dilutes the good info provided by others.

At the end of the day it's having choices that matters. If Apple or any platform becomes too dominate, we the customers lose. I choose to be open to all due to my desire to continue to learn and advance my knowledge, through first hand experience with as many devices as I have time for.

Im not complaining at all. I'm not asking for apple to redesign or reinvent the iPhone. That's not what im saying. I am just stating the way I feel. And you're right, the entire smart phone market has matured to a point where there isn't much jaw dropping innovation left to pack in right now. And maybe that's why Im not as excited for the 5S as I want to be. I guess I just selfishly crave that feeling I used get before a keynote.

I don't think Apple is doing anything wrong. And ill be up at 3am to pre-order. I just don't like the feeling of not being as excited as I used to be.

I'm hoping the rumoured 13" iPad they're playing about with behind the scenes, will be some kind of iPad Macbook Air hybrid.

There are certainly times where it would be advantageous to plug the iPad into an external monitor and have the ability to display multiple apps at the same time. In a corporate environment where I'm out and about during the day in meetings, and then either dock with a monitor at home or hot desk, this would really be a killer device for me. Canonical seem to be innovating in the right direction, and it's a great time to take advantage of MS poor hybrid OS.

would like supersized ipad too … only make it so a bt keyboard AND bt trackpad will work with it! - would replace a desktop machine for writing and coding - just using the ipad as a monitor at times would be nice

The Mini has LTE though. The size of those things as a cell phone option is so bad because it cannot fit in a pocket. My Note II does, though.

Please make a pale gray iPhone 5C with a black logo, writing, and buttons. I'd buy that in an instant.

Take a look at the silver metal band that surrounds the phone - that's the antenna.

Yes iPhone 4 and 4S is has an external antenna, but not the iPhone 5, I thought that's what was being talked about. And I have played with my brother-in-law's S4 quite about. The operating system is fast and the hardware specs are good, it just doesn't have that smoothness of an iPhone. Also the iPhones on display don't have a problem, and they get just as much molestation.

Really starting to dig that smooth iPhone back...

Also, I've got an iPad mini atm, but if the weight loss is more than 30% on the big Daddy iPad I may be tempted to hustle back for the bigger screen.

Roll on September/October :apple:

The 3G/3GS is still my favorite form factor. It was so comfortable and small. It looks like the 5C might get some of the comfort back although probably not the latest and greatest hardware and features.

I think its about time Apple dropped the 16GB storage iPad

The 16 GB is an ideal size for someone wanting the cheapest iPad and who won't be wanting a whole load of apps etc on their iPad.

My mam has a 16GB iPad, she has a decent amount of apps, games, music (for her needs) and she still has a lot of space left.

For people with my mam's usage, it seems pretty pointless scraping the 16GB version and then people would then be paying for more storage that they would not use with the 32GB version.

Ha, still using metal instead of plastic. And they're releasing a tablet without a removable battery. Apple is definitely doomed.
really
