I've got nothing good to say about PayPal. They are a useless company that has no interest in supporting the partnerships with the people who use their service.
I cannot see how they would be useful to Apple in any way.

Not sure why so negative comments about PayPal! I have been using it for over 8 years and it has been great for me. Never had a problem with it. That said, I would still want Apple do implement it on it's own.

Paypal is a terrible business, I don't like or trust them at all.

Try to find a person to talk to or email with. They like to take our money and hide.

Paypal is a borderline criminal organization. They want to be a bank, and want to be above all federal banking rules.

i would never ever ever deal with PayPal. Apple should stick to legit organizations that obey, for example, consumer protection laws, and state and federal banking laws. PayPal obeys neither.

I really hope Apple don't team up with Paypal. Every few years they freeze my account, (and everybody else I know who lives here who has one), for no reason whatsoever - supposedly "security". Then make you jump through impossible hoops to get it unblocked. Like sending non-existent unlock codes. Mine has several hundred dollars in it. Been trying to unlock it for over a year already. Can't even find a phone number to call them. They've basically stolen my money.
Reminds me of one of those mac bundle groups (they tend to do one every year) that had their account frozen with thousands of dollars in it (yet Paypal was still accepting payments to it, how nice!) because of an unspoken/unposted policy about having a spike in transaction volume. Despite several years of the account holders doing this sale previously. So they couldn't pay their fellow developers, but were forced to keep giving out product (until they went into their own site and manually turned it off).

PayPal has long standing policies which are, frankly, completely irresponsible from the standpoint of the customer with funds in one of its accounts.
And always blame the seller unless substantial proof is offered in the case of a conflict.

Why do you all hate PayPal so much? I use it for eBay and it doesn't seem too bad... :/

I know a small business owner that does almost $1M a year through Paypal and has had ZERO problems. I know a half dozen friends/family that have had MANY problems with Apple warranties, from lying technicians to different stories from different people on the same day. All companies can have bad Apples (pardon the pun) but I would not try and act like Apple is honorable and Paypal isn't. Thats ludicrous. People that hate Paypal are people who typically did not follow the policies or are practicing sketchy ethics themselves.

Also, remember, Paypal is regulated by the government as a financial institution. Much of what they do is to protect their business from fraud and audits showing they let fraud happen. I would trust my money with Paypal before I would with Apple. IMHO

No, people that hate Paypal are the innocent people who have gotten screwed over by them. People who were committing fraud and got their account frozen because of that are just going to shrug that off as something they expected/knew would happen eventually, are they not?

Re their regulation, they have tried very hard and so far succeeded in NOT getting regulated as a bank. That let's them get away with all of the horrors you can read in this thread. They ought to be regulated like a bank given that's essentially what their business is.

Steve Jobs would never consider doing business with Paypal

ah we have another ghost-talker in the house! or are you a close personal friend? or perhaps you've worked daily w/ Jobs for a decade? please tell us, please -- how do you know!?

I just can't understand why Apple doesn't simply buy Square, makes it available world-wide and maybe turns it into a bluetooth technology later and end of story

Square Wallet already has swipe-less transaction processing, based on your location (e.g., inside a coffeehouse that uses Square Register).

Why do people say paypal is bad for the consumers? I believe all the horror stories I've heard are from the perspective of the seller/vendor.

That's because in absolutely every case, scammers gets a refund and the seller loses his money.

One of the biggest cons on ebay is for a buyer to get the goods and then say "not as described", asking for a discount or threatening to go to dispute. If it's an expensive transaction then the full amount is blocked from your paypal account and they demand you refund them. For many sellers that becomes a cash flow problem for weeks.

Once, I got scammed and PROVED it. Paypal insisted that I report it as fraud to the local police (who burst out laughing and wanted nothing to do with it) When I told Paypal they said, in a veiled way, that my card was marked......a few weeks later they closed it and I had done nothing wrong.

Complain and you will be blacklisted, account frozen etc etc

Google screwpaypal......

My mom wanted to use PayPal for her business, and asked for my help.

Here was my response:

1)No! They're evil!

2)Ok, if you NEED to, but you need to read all the fine print.

3)Setup a new "PayPal ONLY/Business ONLY" PO Box for your existing business.

4)Setup an entirely new "PayPal ONLY" Business-Related Bank Account for your business using that PO Box Address, and get a "PayPal ONLY" Debit Card that is associated with that bank account.

5)Go Online and fill-out the new account setup forms using ONLY this new "PayPal ONLY" Business Information, that is IN NO WAY associated with your own personal (non-business) PayPal Account.

6)Manually transfer the minimum required Business Funds from your standard business bank account into your Business "PayPal ONLY" bank account before making any business-related "PayPal" purchases.

7)Manually transfer the TOTAL amount available out of your "PayPal ONLY" bank account into your standard Business bank account the moment your payments are received for any Business-Related "PayPal" sales.

8) Never have any (or only the bank-required minimum) funds in your "PayPal ONLY" bank account during times in which you aren't making any active business-related "PayPal" purchases. Never leave money sitting in the account for "PayPal" to retrieve at-will. Don't trust "PayPal" with your money unless you need to for your business!

9) Apple, please NEVER trust PayPal with OUR/your customer information or any transactions!!!

10) PayPal is only a temporary necessary evil that I hope will be replaced by some better, more ethical and trustworthy company/service. If Apple can and wants to do that, I welcome them to try!

Preach it brother! You are spot-on. So did you mom end up using Paypal or not?

I must seriously be missing something here...I mean the PayPal hate here is astonishing!

Furthermore, PayPal bring afraid of Apple makes about as much sense to me as Microsoft being afraid of Abercrombie...

You are missing something: the horrible, criminal, callus experience with Paypal that so many people have had.

And Paypal should be very afraid of *any* other company that can offer a decent payments experience to a large number of people. Particularly a company with a well-known and highly regarded brand name.

Yes, fair enough. As a seller there are many problems with paypal (and ebay), depending on what you're selling etc. As a buyer though, I gotta say I like using paypal, with my credit card. That's two layers of protection on the buyer's end.

fraud like you describe can also occur with a standard credit card transaction. I wouldn't say all credit processors are more reasonable than paypal.

Louis CK trusts PayPal to handle million dollar video sales.

He obviously has some faith in them. Is he the only person who does?

Well given that every transaction must have a seller, what's your point? Oh I see, you mention "consumers". Like what, it's Ok if Paypal screws over businesses, as long as they leave buyers alone? In any case, probably the majority of eBay sellers are individuals, or "consumers" most of the time if you prefer, who are just doing a small amount of business.

I'm just saying it's alot of protection. It's hard to imagine everyone here crucifying paypal is a seller of goods that could be deemed 'not as described'.

I won't sell, say used phones, on ebay, but I still sell stuff on ebay

Please say no Apple. Do not need to be paying fees to Paypal to purchase anything through any Apple payment system. They get enough blood money through my Ebay business and exchange rates. Unless Apple gets to dictate the terms to Paypal, but even then. Apple would be in bed with a devil.

And please do not tell me merchants will be paying the fees either. Cause those will just be passed on to us the consumers.

I don't think you understand how payment processing works.

Those 'fees' are derived from fees charged by VISA, ect.
You think VISA processes payments for free?

On top of that you have PayPal which is a company and the only goal of a company is to generate revenue for shareholders.

Do you think that PayPal should simple provide their online service for free?

Image

1) He doesn't necessarily know about the experience of small sellers.

2) Do you think Paypal is going to do their crap on a) someone famous, or b) a million dollar account? There's got to be some dollar threshold where transactions get some high level individual review before any actions are taken.

3) He can afford the lawyers to take action against Paypal if they screw him over, and not only get his money back, but possibly get damages. But if would never come to that. Do you think Paypal would let a the bad publicity from such a suit happen? They would just not screw him over in the first place (see number 2 above), or if they did something wrong by mistake they would just say oh we're very sorry Mr. CK and rush to fix it.

i see the benefit for paypal...what does apple get out of it?

Apple gets off the ground and running much, much more quickly than they would if they had to build the entire payment processing back-end themselves.

Let's remember -- Apple Maps was a similar "joint venture" as they partnered with TomTom and other vendors to pull mapping data and probably some staff as well. If Apple had to generate all that street data from scratch, we never would have seen Apple Maps -- that may have been a good thing in hindsight, but that's another matter. ;)

Hell, Apple still taps Yahoo for certain datas.
