I called Apple complaining about the delay and they assured me that shipments were on a first ordered, first served basis. Yeah right! 😱

Oh and also I got a 25$ rebate because my shipment is being pushed until March 3rd. Don't get me wrong a compensation is nice but I wasn't expecting such a little one.

Right then...

Ordered pimped-out BTO 15" PowerBook (best of everything except RAM - I'll be buying third party) on February 5th; originally quoted on or before February 22nd for delivery. Just checked the order status and now says on or before February 28th. And yet Apple Store says 7-10 days for shipping. Honestly. This sucks. 🙁

I orded a BTO 15" 1.5 (1G of ram, 2 sticks). on 1/31. was supposed to ship on 2/7, was pushed back to 2/15.

just shipped last night at 11:07 PST.

However, they 2-day's my spare power adapter, and shipped the powerbook ground. (thanks, asshats!).

Damn. Same thing happened to me too. I ordered on the 7th, but got quoted the 22nd as well; now it's the 28th.

this is all quite un-nerving, as I am ordering the pb in my sig on tuesday. What are some reccomendations to get the pest possible chance of quick delivery?

If you're customizing it (and you are), you have to order it direct from Apple... not much you can do but wait. If you can live with a stock machine, you might be able to find one at an Apple store or reseller.

Yes, I realize that. I meant more along the lines of: Does ordering expidited shipping reduce the chances of a shipping foul-up? That kind of thing.

I couldn't say from experience, but I wouldn't think so, since it seems like a supply problem. They can't overnight you what they don't have, right? 😎

Ditto. The 22nd was frustrating but ok, as that was 11 business days from my order...but the 28th is kinda out of line. What's the holdup? I ordered the 1.67 with 128MB vram and the 100gb hdd. So did we all order the vram upgrade or is it the hdd?

Just looked at the apple store, they're now quoting a 7-10 day ship time even for the stock units.

I only ordered the 128 VRAM. So it could be that, or it could be the fact that it's being customized at all.

Has your order gone back to the 22nd like mine has (for now, anyway)?

Damn hell ass. Mine still says the 28th. This is not awesome.

I did order the VRAM upgrade. And the hard drive upgrade. But that's it. RAM is the same, I kept the SuperDrive. Grrrrr...

That didn't last long.

It's the 28th once again. It may have been a glitch on their end, or possibly a caching issue on mine... regardless, I am no longer as special as I thought I was. 😉 🙁

It's a sham. (not really)

It sucks to read about someone that ordered the exact same setup as I did, and they got the same shipping estimates as I did, and (accoding to this forum) already received theirs.

Sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks...

Since Apple broke my order up, today, I received my extra battery and my Applecare. WAHOO!! That stuff is fun to play with while I wait 2 weeks for my Pbook.

Maybe they're just giving us the "worst case scenario" or the "might as well be the end of the world scenario" 😉 and we'll all ship tomorrow. But probably not. I seriously don't think it's the vram, when I ordered mine, stock units were shipping in 2-3 days, now it's 7-10 just like mine said when I ordered it. I think the entire supply chain is tanking, not just BTOs.

Man, I miss my G5 iMac, I only had it for 13 days and I developed a passion for it. <starts saving pennies>

Heh. I've got a shiny Gig of ram from newegg sitting here. I can't believe how tiny it is! At this rate, I'll get my Vyper sleeve before the ol' PB is here. 🙁

So, do I call the Apple Store Sales Support if I need to change the shipping address?

I'm looking at moving at the end of the month, and the shipping date pushback has put it into march, where I very well would be out of my current apt. I'm going to try and call them tomorrow! This is horrible, I'm a switcher... but not until I get this machine! It is exciting but the delay in purchase is getting ridiculous, the lead time is to satisfy that demand should it overflow! An email from them would have been nice for each pushback, that way everyone isn't in the dark about why things haven't arrived. Sorry for ranting, I'm just worried this thing is going to get shipped to an empty apt.

Has anyone had experience with switching the shipping address after ordering?

I ordered a maxed out 15" PB via local Apple reseller on Feb 01st. They told me clearly not to count on Apple's 7-10 quote and expect a realistic delivery time of 3 weeks so Feb 22nd. Here's for hoping.

So 3-4 weeks for a BTO 17" PB ? I called every bay area store, out of stock on them. Man I sold my G4 MDD, I cant wait 4 weeks ?

Macconnection

Hey all. I may have a solution to some of the problems you are all having with shipping. I had been to hell and back with apple and powerbooks. They kept sending me ones that were bad and I had one in for exchange when the new ones came out. They sent me a new 15" right away, but right after I got it the screen started to go dark in one of the corners grrr. So I returned that one and decided to say scew student discount and order off Macconnection (tax free in most states). I noticed that most of the new powerbooks were in stock! Also they had a free 512MB memory upgrade on all their powerbooks as well. They charge $39 to install the ram and the stick of memory is free (after rebate). I was in a hurry so I ordered yesterday at 2 pm CST with overnight shipping (cost me $40 to ship). Now, I am typing to you all on that very powerbook ordered just 24 hours ago!! Best of all, it is pixel perfect 🙂 If you want a powerbook and all you want to change is the memory, then order it from Macconnection. Just an idea if you are all desparate. Cancel those crazy orders from apple and go with macconnection instead. 🙂

I wish I could cancel my order with Apple, but I bought my PowerBook using the once-per-lifetime student developer discount. I may have to wait, but I'm saving quite a bit of money - $1919 plus tax for the BTO 15" 1.67GHz (added 128 VRAM), which is $2399 retail. With tax, it comes to about $2085, so I'm still saving over $300. I'll just keep waiting...

That is a nice savings plus you are upgrading to the 128MB VRAM so you should most def just wait. Very nice computer you have ordered 🙂 I hope you get it as soon as possible!
