I wish I could cancel my order with Apple, but I bought my PowerBook using the once-per-lifetime student developer discount. I may have to wait, but I'm saving quite a bit of money - $1919 plus tax for the BTO 15" 1.67GHz (added 128 VRAM), which is $2399 retail. With tax, it comes to about $2085, so I'm still saving over $300. I'll just keep waiting...

HA! Me too! But I ordered the big hard drive too. Why not?

Let's pelt em with smelly poo!

I'm always down for some primate social behavior! A nice poo-flinging will surely chastise them into obeying the social mores of our band. 😀

I placed my order for 12" power book with an upgade to 768 ram and today I received an e-mail saying that my delivery was delayed. The orginal date of delivery was feb 14 but it was pushed back to the 16th. I know it was only two days but I couldnt wait any longer so I bought it at compusa(they only had one and they just got it in that day) decided not to get the ram upgrade and got a gread deal on apple care. they knocked off 100.00 off the cost of it and gave me a free wireless mouse. I couldnt be happier. this sure does beat waiting cause I'm using my new powerbook now and I love it. this is my first mac and I will deffinatley be making the swithc to mac for all of my computers

Estimated shipping time for the 15" SuperDrive model has ben changed from 7-10 days to 5-7 days. Shouldn't it follow that Apple shortens the wait time on existing orders, instead of (as they are) lengthening them?

Let's hope so. I doubt they'll notify us if they do expect them to ship earlier - they'll probably just ship them and let us get all excited that we didn't have to wait quite so long after all.

I just called Apple to see about changing my shipping address, since I'm never home when UPS/FedEx wants to deliver packages...

Turns out I can't because my order is shipping within the next 12-24 hours. So to all of you waiting on your orders... sounds like they're shipping out very soon!

With all of you. I ordered a 12" w/overnight ship. Thursday morning. Still not here, said Monday... that was today and long gone. No shipping confirmation yet either.
Getting frustrated!

overnight means that it will come the next day after it ships, not that it will ship the day you order and arrive tomorrow. It is also probably 1 day after it enters the US so keep all of that in mind.

I got the blessing of a shipping notice from apple today! "After Fedex cutoff time" but still, my bird has flown!

Mine was supposed to be here today! But it isn't. Im sick of checking my order status at the apple site only to be continually confronted with

Partially Shipped
PBG4 15/1.67/SD/CTO
Open Est. Ship 02/15/2005

(Partially Shipped cause I got their Cram and Jam offer - Half price iPod with every new PB)

I rang Apple and they told me they think (!) it is in transit to them. They said that maybe its going through customs. Apparently mine has come from Singapore. Hopefully they will get it tomorrow and ship it out so that I get it on Thursday.

I know, you read that wrong, but now I have shipping delay for another week. So stupid.

On the road again....

Just a small update and a small warning...

Mine has finally started it's journey across the US. might make it here by friday... we'll see.

Apple had a bit of a time tracking it originally. I received an email stating it was shipped on saturday, but the tracking didn't kick in until this AM. The tracking number that Apple assciated with it and the tracking number that Fed Ex has were different.

Cannonball!

pb shipping roller-coaster ride of emotions

i ordered my 15" BTO from the uk a couple of hours after the announcement and was given a shipping date of on or before 7th feb.

anyhoo the 7th comes along and still no news so i call up the apple people and get told that my order will definately ship in the next 24 hours 🙂 i sleep peacefully and awake the next morning expecting the confirmation only to receive an email that said 'due to unprecedented demand blah blah' it'll now be on or before the 15th 🙁

imagine my delight on the 12th when i received an email saying it had finally shipped!! 😀 *cue crazy dancing around university computer cluster*

however i expected to have some form of update this morning on where it was, maybe somewhere over kazakhstan, or that it had arrived in amsterdam, anything other than the 'shipped from shanghai' message that had remained the same since saturday. there was no development so i gave apple a call again and the friendly ted informed me that he couldn't actually work out whereabouts my product was 😕 but that he was sure it would arrive by friday and would confirm with the logistics department and get back to me

well, just got an email from the log dept saying that when it said 'shipped from shanghai' what they actually meant was 'sweet! chinese new year's here so lets have a party and leave the apple orders for a while. where's the tsing-tao*?' and that as a result my pb will in fact be shipped tomorrow and i'll have to wait at least another week for it to arrive!! 😡

so to summarise my pb delivery experience so far:
🙂 🙁 😀 😕 😡

obviously i understand that demand can be underestimated and i dont have a problem with the dudes in shanghai celebrating new years with a coupla days off but i would appreciate if apple would communicate better so i know what's going on instead of feeding me bs!!! grrrrr...

*which is actually a damn nice beer. highly recommended.

inlimbo, is that Cram and Jam offer only in Australia? I don't recall seeing it as an option when I bought my PowerBook. Otherwise, I would have sprung for the 40 GB iPod Photo!

Also, my estimated shipping date is still February 28, 2005; I ordered on the 5th. Boo. I want PowerBook NOW!

No, they do it here in the US too. You can only get it through the education store, and it's not offered all the time - they usually have it going at the beginning of the school year (Sep/Oct).

Hi ColoJohnBoy,

The Cram and Jam thing is only offered on the "Educational" shop on the Australian Apple site. I dont know if u get it in the US. Basically you get a $200AUD cash back if you buy a iBook/PB and an iPod. However the only iPod you can get is the 20gig w/clickwheel and I wasn't allowed to get the free engraving. I already have a 20gig 3rd generation iPod so I sold it to my friend. He was well chuffed getting it for half price.

The beginning of the school year here is Feb/march.

Cheers
inlimbo...

Thanks for filling in the details, inlimbo. The deal has been the same in the US too - lower end iPod for something like $99 after rebate with purchase of qualifying computer. I used to work at an Apple education reseller when I was in college, so I saw this every so often. It's been a while though. 😛

This is getting ridiculous.

I get an email today telling me that I wont get my new PB until 3/3/2005!!!!!!! 😡 i don't understand. I ordered it the day it came out. I rang the Apple store and the guy said I was the first customer of the day. Yes thats right the first customer in Australia to order the brand new PB!!!!!!!! 😱 I ordered on the 02/01/2005 so effectively by the time I get it will be 31 days since I ordered it!!!!! Thats 23 working days. Initially in said 7-10 working days.

This is my first apple computer and its so far not being a joyous experience. 🙁
If there is something wrong with my PB when I get it im going to go Ape s***!

Mmmm ... I ordered the same config via Apple Australia on 2/2/05 and I haven't seen any sign of movement either, nor I have seen any posts (either here or elsewhere) from people in Australia who have successfully received their BTO.

Is it possible that Apple has decided to ignore Australian orders completely until they have dealt with their supply issues elsewhere? That being the case, their Australian advertising would have been very disingenuous since the new machines' release ... 😡

Damn hell ass.

I just received an e-mail from Apple saying they'd received a "transaction declined" notice from my bank. I called my bank, and their policy is to put a hold on charges over a certain amount. I cleared that up, called Apple, had the retry my card, and it worked. When I asked about shipping, though, they told me there is a shipping delay and that while the other items in my order (iWork, iTMS Gift Cards) will ship out immediately, my PowerBook won't ship out until the 23rd!!! What the hell? I selected the option to have all items ship at once! Why the delay?! Obviously, I've no use for iWork until the PowerBook gets here and I'd like to wait for the same to purchase music. Bah. This blows.

PB shipped B4 "on or before" date

So I checked the status of my order today:

Estimated delivery date Feb 18, 2005, via FedEx

I'm STOKED, yesterday it said "on or before 2/22/05".

Can't wait... YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS! Thanks Apple!

I dont know... From what I read on these forums it seems that people in the US (ColoJohnBoy for example) and the UK are also getting screwed around. Has anyone with a BTO received it by the intial shipping date???? Apple really needs to re-think their inventory strategy. Next time I will probably just buy the standard model and update the RAM myself - maybe that will be quicker (But then u can't update the VRAM or HD yourself - so there is no real solution) 🙁

bryng when were/are u supposed to get ur PB? Have they given u a revised shipping date?

Damn u eleveneastgate! No im happy for u (wish it was me). Was 2/22/05 your initial shipping date or a revised shipping date?

Ugh. Now that the estimated shipping time for the 15" is 4-6 business days (If it's at all accurate) I'm wondering if I cancelled my current order and re-ordered now if I wouldn't get the re-order sooner than the original.

Wish it were me too, I need my 12" PB for work. I am running out of reasons to tell my boss!
