I'm wondering how iTunes will handle the .wmas/.mp3s - will it try to convert it somehow, or be able to read them as-is?

iTunes does not support the .wma format. It does support mp3s, so you're ok there. It won't convert them to anything else when you import them.

There's one solution you can do as long as your wmas are not protected. Use the PC version of iTunes and import them into the library, and it'll automatically convert them to AAC (or other formats I believe. Can anyone back me up on this?). Then take the newly converted files and dump them into your new Mac.

(I know it sucks to have to use your PC. As to why Apple didn't include this feature in their Mac version is beyond me. There are countless times when I had to borrow someone's PC to convert wmas!)

I believe iTunes will convert the WMA to the specific format you have set in Preferences under the "Import" tab.

So I can just transfer the files from my PC to iMac, then when I import them into the iTunes library they will convert them. That sounds just fine to me.

Is there a Mac counterpart to the Windows "My Music" folder? A default place where music files are 'supposed' to go?

Hey Dude!!

Grats!!!

Can't wait to crank up WoW with you and start takin' names...

Fancy meeting you here!

iPod Mini should be here today (came into Dallas right before midnight).

The printer is coming via Fedex and is estimated to arrive on the 6th despite having shipped right after the iPod.

The iMac is still "sent to manufacturing", estimated to leave on the 5th...I really hope it ships early.

I took the plunge today, and ordered:

iMac G5 17'' 1.8 Ghz w/ Combo Drive
iWork '05 installed
Apple Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
250GB HD

I guess iWork is free, but I've heard lots of negative things about it. For real work you're probably still going to want Office.

No, iWork was a 49$ option I opted for, as I've read it is an exceptionally good alternative to Office for everything but spreadsheet. I will give it a go, and if I later do need to go back to using Office.

Definitely...and BTW, I was wondering how effective the one button Apple BT mouse will be using WoW. Do you use the keyboard for most actions, and the mouse just for clicking? Someone told me WoW will read the one button as having a left and right, depending on where you click on the button?

nice one on orderin it :D
remember to post sum pics if ye like when its up and runnin, cos i might be getting the same :D

Expect MANY pictures :D

Stage One : Setting up iMac, new desk and new printer stand side by side with current PC/desk for transfer of power, er, files and most importantly install WoW.

Stage Two: Dismantle old desk, store PC for later salvage. Take down wireless network and set up again, with printers now wireless via USB Print Servers.

Stage Three: Hook up stereo system to AirPort w/ AirTunes.

You can set the interface to one click move. I have a multi button Logitech mouse, but using the mouse to attack sucks, I always press T to declare my belligerence.

Could someone post the exact specs that I need to look for when buying RAM for the iMac? I'm going to let it run a couple days and then install at least 1 GB of additional RAM, but I want to make sure it will work before buying it.

Update: Printer arrived today, ahead of the scheduled delivery date of Aug 6.

The iMac also changed from "Sent to Manufacturing" to "Preparing for Shipment" and estimates shipment date is still today, Aug 5.

From your experience, when should I expect this to arrive? Anyone have a rough estimate?

Since you don't live in Canada, I'd say soon. ;)

You can always create a text document in Text Editor or even Appleworks
then copy paste to an e-mail sent to your P/C or the other way around.

My kids do it all the time back and forth.

I know watching the Fed Ex tracker can make you crazy.

That's O.K. I live in VA and UPS ground messed up and was shipping my
Dell 24" to VT.

When it went from Nashville to New Jersey, I knew something was wrong.

I ended up driving to the distribution hub to rescue it from ending up in
some unknown abyss of missing packages.
