Ha, meanwhile I whine when I can't get something through a streaming platform since I finally cancelled cable. It's very few things these days... I can't remember the last time I watched a Peanuts special though, probably not since I was a kid.

While not easy for people who aren't tech-savvy, just pirate it. I owned the TV specials via Apple and purchased them in iTunes a few years ago so I 'own' the digital versions and I own the DVD versions. They're also available via BitTorrent.

---

I'm going to back up my comment that this is not in any way trying to take money from the creator of Peanuts, the late, Charles Schulz. It's because I'm pretty sick and tired of media companies treating consumers like this. The answer today to "I want to watch everything" is "well, sonny, subscribe to everything" but we're talking about someone spending hundreds of dollars a month to not have FOMO. If the media companies want to take away programming that is a staple in your family around the holidays to watch on broadcast TV, you should respond by either purchasing the content legally on a media they can't take away (DVD) OR steal it. We can't stop Apple from out-bidding everyone else and making people go to AppleTV+ to watch their favorite holiday shows but this is going to continue happening. What's going to happen when every classic Christmas movie and TV show is only available on some Wal*Mart proprietary platform that's $40 a month? They're going to continue choking us with exclusives and pay to play in the big-media business until consumers revolt and the only way you can do anything about it is check-out and purchase the media in its physical form and rip it to your home server legally. Because Apple has it next year, who knows who will have the exclusive the year after? I'm not upset about Peanuts, I"m upset about the industry at large and how they completely don't respect consumers and think we all have hundreds of dollars for Cable + Internet + phones + subscriptions.

I got the email for this petition, and this was my first thought...
My second thought being to start a free trial and then pay $5-$10 and enjoy a couple of months of TV+?
Maybe now that there's actually content on the service, it might be worth it?

Seriously though, they were only broadcast once per season, so how is it any bigger deal to watch them via an app versus rabbit ears?

Streaming is the new front for the Balkanization of content. It’s been quite clear for about 5 years now. It will only get more fragmented. The content companies are effectively re-creating cable channels using streaming.

Oh my gosh. People, stop whining. It’s being offered for free, it’s not even paywalled behind Apple TV+.
Wah, but I want to watch the show on CBS with several commercial breaks, heavily compressed 480p or 1080i, at very specific time it airs only once per year on TV.

I am so mad at Apple for letting me watch the show commercial-free in 4K HDR quality, any time and as often as I want in 3 days between October 30 to November 1. </s>

Just about the only exception to the rule are those with spotty Internet service.

How would anyone without an Apple TV watch it, free or paid?

Stealing a famous quote from Blizzcon after they announced Diablo for Mobile and the audience boo'd at them...

"What? You guys don't have smart phones?"

I wonder if the Christmas one on Apple TV will have the original Coca Cola signs. Remnants are still there if you look quickly enough.

There are peanuts fans?

I didn't like them when I was a kid, and nothing since then has changed my mind.
Shame, I love them as a kid. I had all the stuffed dolls of each of them. My own son liked the Apple TV version too. He wanted it over and over for a few weeks before moving on to something else.
However, having said all that. People need to get a grip. Where was the outrage when CBS purchased StarTrek and made you pay for it? One would think that would have had a bigger following. And to boot it's not like CBS doesn't have a TV station to re-air it on or anything. I'm WAY more pissed about it. But, I use the free month after the season is over and binge it. I would never have thought to put up a petition to get it back on TV.

Whatever.

Someone asked in an earlier reply - who could possibly be a longtime Peanuts fan? Me, for one.

A Charlie Brown Christmas first aired when I was ten years old. I had been an avid reader of Peanuts for a couple of years. I still remember how excited I and my friends were - Charlie Brown was going to be on TV! It was maybe six or seven years later that I actually saw it in color.

I try to never miss seeing it again and again; I’m sure that in some years along the way I may have forgotten to watch, or to set it to record. I’m 65 now. I’ve watched it with my kids, and with their kids too. And somewhere in the house I know we have it on DVD, but I don’t think it’s been opened.

Streaming it, or watching the DVD just isn’t the same. I guess you have to be of a certain age to remember the feeling of anticipation. The feeling that it’s only two more days until something would be on! Rudolph, Frosty, A Christmas Carol, The Wizard of Oz - all appointment tv before the Age of VCRs. Dinner’s over, and it’s almost seven o’clock!

I’m sure I’ll watch it again this year, but something‘s been lost along the way.

And for the person who suggested just pirating it - you really need to see it. There’s a message in it that you need.
