Someone asked in an earlier reply - who could possibly be a longtime Peanuts fan? Me, for one.

A Charlie Brown Christmas first aired when I was ten years old. I had been an avid reader of Peanuts for a couple of years. I still remember how excited I and my friends were - Charlie Brown was going to be on TV! It was maybe six or seven years later that I actually saw it in color.

I try to never miss seeing it again and again; I’m sure that in some years along the way I may have forgotten to watch, or to set it to record. I’m 65 now. I’ve watched it with my kids, and with their kids too. And somewhere in the house I know we have it on DVD, but I don’t think it’s been opened.

Streaming it, or watching the DVD just isn’t the same. I guess you have to be of a certain age to remember the feeling of anticipation. The feeling that it’s only two more days until something would be on! Rudolph, Frosty, A Christmas Carol, The Wizard of Oz - all appointment tv before the Age of VCRs. Dinner’s over, and it’s almost seven o’clock!

I’m sure I’ll watch it again this year, but something‘s been lost along the way.

And for the person who suggested just pirating it - you really need to see it. There’s a message in it that you need.
Exactly! Had to get together at that exact time, and everyone could talk about shows at work the next day for the SAME EPISODE! Not people binging the whole show at minute one and spoiling it for people who have more to do than that

And can't get that challenge anymore of doing what you wanted in time during commercials. Couldn't pause and they were way shorter then.

My favorite part of all of this…

If you can can sign an online petition, you already posses the tech to watch the Peanuts Specials for free! Apple TV+ even works in a web browser!

A lot of the misplaced anger is coming from people who don't know the difference from "Apple TV" the hardware and "Apple TV" the app. But, frankly, that's Apple Marketing's fault for naming things the way they did. The general public is confused over what their product is. Quite a few folks I've encountered think you need to buy an Apple TV to watch the Peanuts specials.

This is the problem with streaming services today. Most streaming companies aren't wise enough to understand that they could sign up more paying members (or at least make more money) if they only let any potential customer to watch their content, either for free with ads or for a small fee with limitations (like only one episode per week, for example). People won't sign up to a streaming service, if they're already paying to another service, just for one show but they might pay a small fee (much less than a full subscription costs) in order to watch that show.

Many more people would have watched that special if it was offered for free (with ads, of course) and maybe some of them would have signed up as paying members at some point. Not only that, but Apple are limiting the kind of devices they allow people to watch from, further hurting content creators.

Like this poor uninformed individual, for example…

You can watch the service "Apple TV+" from a WEB BROWSER (plus tons of streaming devices and smart TVs), how is that limiting? And, there is a free 3 day viewing window around the around the actual holiday for each Peanuts special. Can't get any freer than that.

Apple are offering it for free. Read the article.

I am not sure how this works for someone who is not into Apple at all, not a Mac, not an iPad, not an iPhone. How does that person watch this? That is who the petition is for, and such people are the ones frustrated at this development.

I am watching Apple TV+ on my big new Samsung TV. It’s a free app.

Me too. It all started with me reading every single Peanuts book in the library

I remember when I was young and was with my Mom at the grocery store they had a rack of small Peanuts books(usually cost about $1 in those days) and almost every time she would add it to her cart. Those were the paperbacks that had some of the strips you would get in a full sized book. I also remember getting a five volume set of Peanuts books from the bookstore at the mall. That I remember was in the summer of 1979. Funny what you remember

Don’t understand why people have a problem with this....streaming service exclusives have been going on for a while now. Plus, I’m pretty sure you can buy the special from the iTunes Store or on DVD. 🤷‍♂️

Well that's absolutely not true. I paid for HBO to see GoT. I pay for Epix to watch Get Shorty. I pay for Hulu to watch Vikings.

It's how I justify all the platforms. I don't care how many shows and movies you have. Do you have a show I would be willing to pay your bouncer for? If so, I will go in. Which is interesting because I started doing this about the same time I refused to pay cover to drink beer.

Honestly people just have to suck it up. So many streaming services makes exclusive deals for shows, its the new normal.

But I would wish that streaming's film and series had evolved more like the music streaming services where its features and not content there is the factor for deciding what to use.
Exactly. I want to be mad that I can't watch Parks and Rec on Netflix anymore, because of Peacock.

Do you enjoy watching a show when it's convenient for a network rather than your busy schedule?
Do you enjoy spending 30% of that time watching commercials?
Do you enjoy only getting to watch the show once?

THEN SIGN THIS PETITION!

Change.org is a mess. People used to use it for really good causes but now if they don't like something because they cannot afford or just want to mess with the target company, they create one blast. This social media thing is going to be downfall of humanity.

They're urging people to "stand up to Apple and WildBrain"? Seriously? Like they're being oppressed by this somehow? Just because people were able to watch it on broadcast TV for free in the past, doesn't mean they're entitled to always watch it for free. Go stand up for some cause that actually means something. Buy a DVD if you want to watch the specials (or, you know, watch it for free on the days Apple makes it available, or <gasp> give Apple some money for a couple months and watch it whenever you want). When it was on broadcast TV, you couldn't watch it for free whenever you wanted, you had to watch it on their broadcast schedule.

The Christmas and Halloween shows owe a lot to the amazing jazz soundtrack from the Vince Guaraldi Trio. People remember the music, especially from the Christmas show, more than the show itself.

Well that and Linus reciting the 2nd chapter of Luke.

So when they were on CBS, was there a petition for the people that didn't have CBS?

Everyone has access to CBS. Whether OTA or cable. Free if it's over OTA. My issue is that it's a tradition to have it on TV each particular holiday and not everyone has an Apple device to watch it, contrary to popular belief on here. Yes it's a terrible show, but it's something some families may watch with their kids or grandkids.
