I can definitely sympathize with those who have signed the petition. It's been a sort of family tradition for us at least to have the holiday specials on queue (along with How the Grinch Stole Christmas for December) and to watch them before or after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. In our scenario, we're visiting family that doesn't have a streaming device, and the smart TV they have may not get the ATV+ app in time (though fingers crossed they do). They have a cable TV DVR where they consume pretty much all of their content. I recognize that it's simply an evolved way of delivering the content and we'll definitely have the means to make it work (whether it's through Chromecast or bringing over an Apple TV). I also recognize that it is a pretty good way for Apple TV+ to get their foot in the door as long as they continue to make the app available on more devices/TVs/etc., release Apple One, and continue to release more great content. I need to get more of our friends and family to watch Ted Lasso, lol.

While "free" access seems to address the issues, the requirement of a particular set of hardware platforms for these classic shows is a deeply exclusionary process for the least affluent segments of society. It's easy to forget that there are many people who don't have smart TV or smart phone access if you're on a site like this, and sadly that is the root of exclusionary bias/practices.

I gotta say, this felt gross to me. I know, I know, you can get the DVD or stream it on Apple TV+... but these airing on regular TV channels has been a tradition for decades. Same with new episodes of Sesame Street going from PBS to HBO. It has the feel of a rich kid buying a public playground making it private.

Honestly people just have to suck it up. So many streaming services makes exclusive deals for shows, its the new normal.

But I would wish that streaming's film and series had evolved more like the music streaming services where its features and not content there is the factor for deciding what to use.
But not shows that have been on networks for decades!

While not easy for people who aren't tech-savvy, just pirate it. I owned the TV specials via Apple and purchased them in iTunes a few years ago so I 'own' the digital versions and I own the DVD versions. They're also available via BitTorrent.
Peanuts Pirates ARRRRRR!!!

Exactly what I said! Not like this is a newly created show.

Maybe now that there's actually content on the service, it might be worth it?

Seriously though, they were only broadcast once per season, so how is it any bigger deal to watch them via an app versus rabbit ears?
It seems more exciting when you have to wait for that certain time to watch. Sure you could record it, but it doesn't seem the same when you can watch it whenever you want. Just like sometimes it is nice to put on the radio and get what you get.

Not having these shoes on ABC is weird. Not everyone pays for streaming services.
As was mentioned in the article, you don't have to pay for the streaming service to watch this for free.

This petition is one of the stupidest things I've seen in a while! People just need something to complain about.
