I prefer the Pebble over the Watch for the following reason: while the Watch can do much more (and look better doing it), most of its features are made redundant by the iPhone it's connected to, but the Pebble has few features that are better than phones', like its display is always on, easier to read in sunlight, allows for many consecutive days of batter life, and it stays on my wrist, notifying me without distracting.

I agree with most of your points, except for battery life. I've become accustomed to put my watch on my side table every night charging, so that's not an issue.

The only problem with this, is the November launch date. (And a January launch date for the Core part). So we have to compare this with the Apple Watch 2, not the current Apple Watch.

Cheers. The longer battery life is a must for those who want sleep tracking or an illuminated display on their wrists at night that lights up with a flick. I like to put my watch on and forget about it, but obviously different people have different desires/needs. :)

The Pebble Core seems like a nice update to the iPod shuffle :) Apple should add some tracking sensors, bluetooth and maybe GPS to make it interesting again, well at least for me :p

I'm hoping that the next iteration of the Apple Watch comes in two versions -- the "watch" with the apps and a new version that's smaller, thinner, and waterproof that doesn't have apps but provides you with a basic clock, call and text notifications, plus activity and sleep tracking and has a much, much longer battery life than any of the other rechargeable wearables currently on the market (one month or longer).

I don't need apps on my wrist but I would like a FitBit-type device that's made by Apple that has killer battery life and is waterproof. Apple could really put a dent in FitBit's business if they release a reasonably accurate, waterproof product in the $150-$200 range that doesn't have all of the (mostly useless, in my opinion) features of the current Apple Watch (apps, Siri, calling, etc.)

I really love the Pebble. I have used all three major smartwatch platforms, and the Pebble, while the least attractive of all my watches, still draws me in for some reason. The fact that Pebble designs their watches to be a watch first and a computer second is smart. I love the always on display, I love not worrying about it getting wet, and I love the sleep tracking (which is surprisingly accurate). The Pebbles I've owned have been the most consistent and reliable smartwatches of them all. The Apple Watch has issues with the wrist raise sensitivity for me, Siri sometimes doesn't work, and apps and glances take awhile to load still. The Moto 360 has issues with the voice input and wrist raise as well, plus it has a decent amount of lag and has been known to randomly reboot. The Pebble has never done any of those things. Voice input works, display is always on, and the apps actually load and work.

This watch is the most utilitarian of them all, but it has its own unique personality and feature set that makes me smile every time I throw on my Pebble.

It's been a while since my Pebble (Kickstarter Edition, Red) got the fuzzy screen of death, but can it show the weather just by looking at it? Can it buzz your phone when you've misplaced it? Does the heart rate sensor work well (as opposed to Fitbit-like inaccuracy)? Can you set timers with your voice?

I mean, for all I know Pebble has these things down. These are just a few of the ways I use my Apple Watch beyond the basics of notifications from my phone.

"can it show the weather just by looking at it?" Yes - there are "always show the weather" watch faces.

"can it buzz your phone when you've misplaced it?" Not natively, but there are apps that can do that. (I use "Smartwatch Pro" on iOS, there are similar on Android. You run an app on your phone, and a companion app on the watch. Smartwatch Pro does a lot more than just "find my phone," though, it adds a lot of useful functionality.)

"Does the heart rate sensor work well?" We don't know yet, that's new functionality on the just-announced model.

"Can you set timers with your voice?" Not natively in the current version of the OS, but there are watch-apps that can do that. (I like "Snowy," it's a watch app that can do many things that Siri/Google Now can do, including set timers.)

SORRY....I thought this was Apple news.....my mistake or...is this a paid ad????????????????

An iPod Shuffle with built in GPS sounds like a great idea, but ugh, why couldn't they include at least 1GB of storage? I don't want or need a Spotify account, nor do I want to have to have another SIM-required device.
"Core streams music directly from the web, so you stay motivated and on pace. You can also use Core’s 4GB of built-in storage to access your favorite playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks."

I loved the original pebble when I had it, but it definitely does not play as nice with IOS as I would like. Also, since owning the apple watch it really has become more of a fashion piece with the added benefits of being a smart watch. I change bands daily.

Why can't we have the 3G connectivity in the Time 2? That'd be much more useful than a small blob with only one button and no screen.

Not very good looking, yet with that said, it looks like the kickstarter has already surpassed its goal - odd.

It does everything that 95% of people would want a wearable to do.

Always-on screen

~ week-long battery life

Built in gps

Not tethered to a phone

Notifications from your phone

Water proof rated to 30 m

Health sensors

Inexpensive price

Music player

And more. So the better question is - what does the AppleWatch do beyond what the pebble does that people want? Super especially when you consider the huge negatives of AW being much more expensive and having much much shorter battery life.

Better integration with Apple services, apps (what I use: 1pass, mail, banking, flipboard (reading while on the john), work timers, Instagram, city transit schedules, remote), apple pay, taking calls directly. You're right that the Pebble does most of what people want, but I prefer an AW for reasons above and I've never liked the aesthetics of Pebble.

Yup. I also have an iPhone. ;)
