Agreed ... and also I think some folks are realizing that they are a bit more human and connected to "real life" if they aren't staring at a computer screen, in some shape or size, every BLOODY MOMENT of the day.

I prefer these watches they have a decades long feature called always-on display

Just when I was thinking it's good that they're releasing these models, MR reminded us that this guy wants us all to storm the gates at Cupertino, demanding that Apple go open platform or whatever. No thanks to that idea.
Well it is good that Pebble is releasing these models. And it is good that they are asking more people to put pressure on Apple to open up their ecosystem.

Apple's "walled garden" strangles innovation, and at the end of the day you have an Apple watch with the same battery life as the first. Or maybe the battery life is possibly worse. Just think of how much better Apple's own products could be if they faced any real competition without the artificial limitations they impose on other smartwatches.

Hopefully one day Apple will be forced to open up their APIs to all app developers, though it seems unlikely to happen until an entity such as the EU forces them to.

The walled garden that you seem to think so highly of is actually more like a baby pen that you willingly want to be inside of. At least you're not going to be able to lick an electrical outlet, but not everyone with an iPhone wants to be treated like a child.

What a novelty! That's incredible!
And you don't have to charge it every day to get that???

😂
You seriously don’t take off your watch for 20-30 minutes a day? I just take my Series 10 off during showers and find it nearly fully charged. It feels unreal sometimes. Feels like AirPods being charged (in just a few minutes)

Yeah and how many days does that watch go between charges?
My Series 5 with 74% battery health lasted 8hrs with Always On. And 14hrs with Always Off. But it’s a smartwatch doing a lot of things in the background. A dumb watch is taking up my entire wrist for Just showing the time!

The hype is over everyone is wearing an iWatch apparently wearing a vintage watch sets you apart from the masses.
It’s still selling like hotcakes across the world. The sales are not declining. And Apple Watches can be very unique too. Just switch up the band with a Milanese Loop or a Hermes band(or other unique leather ones). I find the Apple Watch to be more expressive of style and customization than dumb watches. Being able to switch up the Face and Band depending on mood is a Killer feature

I owned a Pebble way back in the day before I bought an Apple Watch and man I sure do miss that thing. The battery life was absolutely fantastic and it was just enough smartwatch to keep me happy but not enough to constantly distract me. I am considering ordering one for the sake of tinkering but maybe I will wait and see what others think of it first.

It definitely took me a while before I got used to the Apple Watch but I ended up turning nearly every notification off besides calls and texts so I am not constantly getting pinged on my wrist.

I had the original Pebble Watch in 2014. It was nice and gave me a glimpse of the future.

They didn't or weren't able to keep up with the times, and so lost out to Apple Watch and the Android equivalents.

I respect Eric Migicovsky and Pebble's contribution to this space, but the Pebble is best fondly remembered instead of being brought back from the dead.

It lasts 1/3 of a day. Incredible!

How many actually useful things is it doing in the background? And how many of these things are the reason that the battery life is just 1/3 of a day for your Series 5?

There are smart rings that do much of what the Apple watch does and they last something like 7 days with a fraction of the battery.

There is something to be said about a dumb watch as a fashion statement, and as others have said, the looks part is quite subjective. I'm arguing that Apple faces no real competition for smart watches because they don't allow anyone else to use the APIs they use for the Apple watch. And because of this, all smart watch users suffer, especially Apple watch users, as they (myself included!) have to live with whatever slop Apple wants to sell.

As does every single Pebble. That was one of the main features that set it apart from other early smart-watches: It's e-Ink or e-Paper display was always visible.
Fitbit bought Pebble, then Google bought Fitbit and decided to open source the PebbleOS.
And the Pebble founder started rePebble, but then (through some deal, I'm not sure on the details of it) managed to get rights to the original Pebble name for his revival.

I loved my Pebble Kickstarter edition and its multi-day battery life. Can't wait to see the reviews on the new ones....I might ditch my SE2 for one of the new Pebbles. All these years and Apple still can't get at least 3 days battery life is ridiculous.

This is what I never understand..
It's actually not in anyone's interest, as an Apple fan and customer, to have them be able to rest on their laurels to this degree.

The Apple Watch "updates" have become totally embarrassing.
They are basically just chip bumping it and doing nothing.
Not even that. Some have had the same chip span multiple generations, like S9-10-11 and I believe S5-6.

It’s true. Apple will have to work hard (ahem, battery life) to win back our kids who started with Fitbit and moved on to Garmin because AW dies on them mid-workout.

I don't get what's up with Apple anymore on the AW.

Garmin's Venu X1, also with an OLED screen, is basically the same size as the 46mm S10

But the X1 is thinner and lighter and has a battery life up to 8 days.
