I loved my Pebble Time so so much, I still have it. It used to get 7 days on a charge, it was fantastic! And all the customizable watch faces. Used to use a Star Trek themed face a lot!

I use my Apple Watch a lot these days but might still get a new Pebble just because I missed using it so much and i love the ecosystem of the Pebble.

It’s still selling like hotcakes across the world. The sales are not declining. And Apple Watches can be very unique too. Just switch up the band with a Milanese Loop or a Hermes band(or other unique leather ones). I find the Apple Watch to be more expressive of style and customization than dumb watches. Being able to switch up the Face and Band depending on mood is a Killer feature

I'm not saying it's a bad product it's actually very useful when it comes to health monitoring and other cool features like the ones you've mentioned. The issue here is the market is saturated and plateauing just like the iPhone. There's nothing new and different anymore like it used to in late 90s and early 2000s.

Migicovsky suggested that "Pebble-curious" iPhone users complain loudly to Apple or switch to Android, as Android users will have access to more Pebble functionality than iPhone users.
Yeah this thing is DOA.

You have that attitude, people will stay away from your product. Either way, Android users will likely get Pixel Watch instead which is miles better. And Apple users have Apple Watch.

It lasts 1/3 of a day. Incredible!

How many actually useful things is it doing in the background? And how many of these things are the reason that the battery life is just 1/3 of a day for your Series 5?

There are smart rings that do much of what the Apple watch does and they last something like 7 days with a fraction of the battery.

There is something to be said about a dumb watch as a fashion statement, and as others have said, the looks part is quite subjective. I'm arguing that Apple faces no real competition for smart watches because they don't allow anyone else to use the APIs they use for the Apple watch. And because of this, all smart watch users suffer, especially Apple watch users, as they (myself included!) have to live with whatever slop Apple wants to sell.
I get the API thing. But any manufacturer can abuse the feature to get all private notification information. I am with Apple on this one. Smart rings don’t have powerful technology like high resolution displays and processors like the Apple Watch. Nor are their sensors that good quality.
The Apple Watch plays music, shows photos in Retina Quality, runs powerful apps and does so much more that dumb watches can’t do in any way.
I have a feeling you should stick to dumb watches instead of the Apple Watch

As does every single Pebble. That was one of the main features that set it apart from other early smart-watches: It's e-Ink or e-Paper display was always visible.

Props to them for trying to be different and unique but the watch looks plasticky and cheap. On the positive side of things most likely they won't collect and sell your data.

All markets have that issue. Dumb watches too. Smartphones have replaced the dumb watches and most people’s arms are empty. Apple is just targeting the Billion+ iPhone userbase for Watch sales. Obviously it will plateau at some point. But people also upgrade their Apple Watch. A combination of that and new sales is enough to satisfy Apple

But any manufacturer can abuse the feature to get all private notification information.

Then you make an API with feature parity that gives the option of what data is shared to the end user. Apple literally makes the OS on the phone side - the API can be as privacy-minded as they want it to be.

Of course, they'd prefer to not do any work at all. As we've seen with the minimal updates to their own watch.

Even with the proliferation of smartwatches, someone wearing this is going to look like the biggest dork - similar to someone wearing the calculator watch in the 90s.
The Apple Watches major issue is that it’s the most sold watch on the planet. That makes its design boring by default because everyone has it and it has about 2.5 formfactors to chose from. I’d argue the switch to more rectangular form of the non ultrasonic last year made them less elegant on top.
I have one, I love it. But it’s not a good looking accessory that defines your personal style. It’s as generic as it could come.

This is everyone wearing a smart watch regardless of the maker. They’re more popular than calculator watches were but there’s nothing “cool” about them.

I had the original Pebble. I had a red one I got from backing it on Kickstarter. I really loved it. Now I have a Series 2 Apple Watch. After I reset it a few months ago, and got it set up the way I want, I get two days battery life out of it. That's plenty for me, as I usually put it on charge overnight. From time to time I'll forget, but it doesn't matter, I'm still at 25% at the end of the second day usually.

When I saw there was a new Pebble coming out, I was tempted for a moment, but in the end they don't do all the things I want from my watch now. One day, when my Series 2 eventually dies (no sign of that yet), or I have actual disposable income, I'll happily and enthusiastically get whatever the latest series of Apple Watch is. Until then, I'll keep on being that weird strange person who enjoys using Apple products.

I hope they'll have more long-term success this time around, competition is good though it doesn't really hold up to a feature-by-feature comparison, but some folks will like it.
For me, doesn't do it though

Well it is good that Pebble is releasing these models. And it is good that they are asking more people to put pressure on Apple to open up their ecosystem.

I am indifferent to them releasing these models, and I expect them to sell about as well as they did before - not enough to make them a meaningful competitor. I do not want Apple to “open their ecosystem”. Apple’s largest competitors (Google and Samsung) offer an alternative model that includes an open ecosystem. I prefer Apple’s model which is why I do not have a Pixel.

Apple's "walled garden" strangles innovation, and at the end of the day you have an Apple watch with the same battery life as the first.

Nope. It provides different innovation - features that benefit from tight integration with a secure, private ecosystem. Having had a Series Zero, you are simply wrong that the current generation watches have the same battery life. They are much better (not even counting the Ultra series), but now have Always-on-Displays, LTE and many other features.

Or maybe the battery life is possibly worse.

Not even close.

Just think of how much better Apple's own products could be if they faced any real competition without the artificial limitations they impose on other smartwatches.

They do face competition. Some people buy Garmin, others buy Samsung and Google.

Hopefully one day Apple will be forced to open up their APIs to all app developers, though it seems unlikely to happen until an entity such as the EU forces them to.

Hopefully they will not do so voluntarily and will not be forced to do so. There are already alternatives for those who want them. I do not want to lose the alternative that many people prefer.

iPhone wants to be treated like a child.

Sorry, my iPhone does not treat me like a child, it makes it so I do not need to spend energy worrying about privacy, security, etc.

If you want an open ecosystem, you have several options, especially since you do not use an Apple Watch. Move to Android and stop trying to make Apple’s ecosystem into Android.

My friends gold SS Series 10 is about as classy as it could get. And I think my titanium ultra looks great too. And if that was really the case about it being dorky, I wouldn’t have people coming up to me at work wondering how they could get one.
Apple watches are no longer stylish as they were in the past nowadays everyone is wearing a little black screen
They never were.

I'm amazed that still isn't possible.

It would be stunningly popular.

I think Apple just doesn't want to deal with the 8 million Rolex/IWC/Tag/etc. knock-off watch faces that would show up in the App Store. My Pebble watch face looked nothing like that. I took elements from my old Casio 80's watches plus some other features I wanted.
