Apple approves Microsoft's Health app for use with the Microsoft Band...Kindle Reader...Office for iOS...

You can't compare Pebble to Microsoft. Microsoft has much more market power. Pages and Numbers notwithstanding, Apple needs Microsoft to continue to support Office applications on the Mac. Also, Microsoft has invested in Apple in the past; the companies have a relationship.

We'll see what happens with Pebble. I wouldn't presume to call it either way.

I think the answer is simple. Apple should allow it. It's up to apple to make a product so compelling we choose not to buy the competition and choose their own. They shouldn't force us it should be our choice. If Apple is classy, they'll approve it.

apple already approved it weeks ago. the developer themselves decided not to release it and resubmitted it which restarts the review process/timeline.

The problem is the average consumer doesn't even see this. All they see is, "Apple is being mean to Pebble because they said so." To me it's BS that Pebble would act like this considering they can't meet a timeline. If anything they may have planned the whole thing. "Oh but bug fixes". Half my app updates through the App Store are bug fixes so that's no excuse. So whatever interest I may have had in buying a cheap Pebble in the future have diminished.

Side note, there was a time right after the first Kickstarter when the community hated Pebble due to lack of communication and support. Dig deep enough in the forums and you may find it unless it still exists. It's one of the reasons why I got rid of my first Pebble.

So it's a watch, yes. It can tell you who just texted you and what that email you just got says. Then what? That is barely more than just a watch. Is the week-long battery life really worth it just for the alerts? A regular watch will give you battery life upwards of a year.

Lol. Don't forget that the Pebble is also water resistant without any doubt. It's a true competitor. I own both. They each have their advantages. It just depends on what the consumer considers a higher priority.

i really don't understand companies like this. you sign up as a developer for the apple platform, that means you are a partner with them to make money together and provide a service together for customers. Apple has done nothing wrong here, you yourself were the ones that resubmitted the app which restarts the review process as clearly stated by apple. the time is well within the common review times still and you go running to internet to try and embarrass apple? /mindblown

Sometimes multiple days pass with no notice from Apple regarding anything positive or negative, then out of the blue, they decline the submission on random (sometimes ridiculous) grounds.

For instance - ours was stopped from approval at one point because we mentioned in the app description that it was available for iOS and Android, and Apple said nope due to the mention of Android. It had nothing to do with the functionality of the app itself, but in the description wording. It took a week for them to decline it for that.

It looks like there was nothing random about the reason that your app was declined. If Apple gives valid reasons for declining the app then there is nothing random about it.

Sounds more like you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

This is not typical.....

My latest app update took 13 days from submission to approval. The version before that took about 2 weeks as well.

App review times are horrid lately.

Yeah. Looks like they are looking for a scapegoat here so they don't look like morons releasing a watch that doesn't work out of the box.

Well it's going through the normal review process. I sent my app for review on May 15 and got approved on June 1 so I think it's still in line. I know Apple should have done an exception and reviewed it faster but Pebble should have also submitted it before and held the release for a couple of days. We all know review takes from one week to over two on some times, why not submit it a few days earlier to avoid this trouble?

They're not treating Pebble special in any way. Apple's review times have averaged around 8 days for the past few months, but they're up to an average of 10 days right now (see: http://appreviewtimes.com). The increase is likely due to some impending preparation for the WWDC conference.

One day outside the average isn't cause for alarm, but if it's that important to Pebble they can try to ask Apple for an expedited review (they've been known to grant this request now and then, just perhaps not very often).

In my opinion they should do and exception for Pebble and review it a bit faster, they do it all the time for Google, Facebook and other companies. Recently Google Photos was released and an update fixing some bugs was released only one or two days after. I guess Pebble isn't one of their favourite devs though.

This feels too much like Pebble trying to turn a slight delay into a marketing opportunity. They've got a clever hashtag and everything. Give me a break. And if I was some lowly developer who turned my app in for review a day before them, I'd be PO'd if Apple put my review on the backburner to review theirs first.

Honestly, I hope Pebble gets screwed and the app rejected. Losing this will probably make Pebble go out of business with the amount of returns. iPhone users won't switch to Android just because of a watch. Yeah, maybe 1 or 2 people, but not every Pebble owner.

Apple wouldn't be taking away any choice if they didn't allow the app. You could get an Android device to pair with your Pebble. Apple has no obligation to ensure that every product made by third parties works with the iPhone. Look, one could make the same argument about the lightning connector. All those companies that make mini-USB smartphone cords are out of luck with the iPhone. So what?

Apple has nothing to fear from Pebble. If anything embracing pebble watch into iOS9 will help sell more devices. Apple has integrated services into iOS like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Vimeo, Nike and allows other heart and health devices as well. If they integrate Pebble into iOS it will accelerate more switchers from Android to iOS devices because it will offer more features than them and work better.

Apple's behaviour on stuff like this makes me just want to scrap getting an Apple Watch. It's not very becoming of them.

Explain - specifically and without assumptions or faux-omniscient insight into their behind-the-curtains motivations and/or thought process that you don't have - "Apple's behaviour". Facts only, please.

As a Pebble watch owner and an Apple watch owner, we should all be pushing for Apple to release this app. Competition benefits the consumer. If Pebble can even remotely challenge Apple's watch, it would push Apple to continue to develop and improve their product to remain competitive (or to maintain their margin of dominance), so to speak. In my opinion, this benefits all of us.
Excuse me but Pebble shouldnt get special treatment over other developers who had to wait in line. Pebble needs to wait in line like everyone else. They shouldnt get special treatment.

Why because Pebble pulled its own app from release its now Apples fault? Pebble needs to get in line like everyone else.

Maybe someone who wanted a functional smart watch that you could leave on at night, for instance to do sleep monitoring, because the battery wasn't already dead?
Exactly, that's why I ordered my second Pebble, a Steel, a month ago. Being 1/3 of the cost helped and only having to wait a week helped too.

What? It's Apple that is delaying the review. I wish Apple would stop already with the anti-competitive behavior stuff. Get back to what they do best, making excellent products. Beat the Pebble because the Apple Watch is better, not because you expel them from the App Store.

Sadly this is not true. Been waiting for someone to hack my Verizon Note 4 bootloader/gain root access since October 2014. At this rate I would bet that the iPhone 6 gains a jailbreak before my Note does.
I wish all Android phones were easy to hack like in the old days.
What are you talking about? A jailbreak is not the same thing as being hacked. Jailbreaking is done by the user to gain additional unapproved functionality. Hacking is done by others with malicious intent to steal information or destroy the device or make the device behave in strange ways against the will of the user.

Apple should just approve it with bugs and all. Let the users get upset with Pebble when the app doesnt work right or the app is buggy as hell.

You need to read the article. Pebbles app was approved for release on may 18th. Pebble on its own volition decided to pull their app and add additional bug fixes to it. This starts the three week approval process all over again. Pebble shouldnt be allowed to cut in front of other devs who slaved away on their apps because Pebble couldnt pull it together.

This is clearly what Pebble developers wanted, it seems. Nobody will use the brain to see that the app had gotten approved. Apple is not without its share of bad cultures. It just seems to be the least evil out there, today. Yet, the Pebble guys have gotten publicity through playing on the naiveté of people. Bad practices, Pebble. As developers who know the system for some time, you should know and have patience before coming out in a public forum like this to slander the very company who you rely on for business.

The thread should just be deleted. This is a non-issue.
