That is not what a duopoly is, and Apple is not guilty of this, AND there aren't a bunch of regional brands of smartphones being held back by anyone. It's typically a low margin business with a high cost of entry.

Tell that to the inevitable Apple-hater law firm that takes this case pro-Bono if Pebble does not get their app approved.

Love to see how Apple legal would respond if a law firm writes a very intimidating letter if the Pebble app is not approved.

It's incredible that this product still can sell while the Apple Watch exists.

What? It's Apple that is delaying the review. I wish Apple would stop already with the anti-competitive behavior stuff. Get back to what they do best, making excellent products. Beat the Pebble because the Apple Watch is better, not because you expel them from the App Store.

LIAR

How can you choose to IGNORE the FACT that APPLE ALREADY PREVIOUSLY APPROVED THE APP and P-E-B-B-L-E rejected it themselves...then re-submitted?

They literally chose to put themselves at the "back of the line" for a bug fix...your whole premise is constructed of things you wish to believe that are in stark contrast to the actual reality.

When an app is rejected, the review process completely resets. EVERYONE that has been doing this for any amount of time knows this is how it works. This is standard.

They made the choice to kill their own release.

Then stupidly, tried this publicity stunt that Apple, in plain English, tells ALL app devs NOT to do.

Yet, the Pebble guys have gotten publicity through playing on the naiveté of people. Bad practices, Pebble. As developers who know the system for some time, you should know and have patience before coming out in a public forum like this to slander the very company who you reply on for business.

The thread should just be deleted. This is a non-issue.

Well, nowadays, you see, you have to rag on Apple for every little thing or spin every blog post with a bit of "insidious accusation" to 1. appear to not be in Apple's pocket/a fanboi publication and B. to get the engine of argument running to get those eyeballs :)

I just wish these guys would get out of this trend and just tell the story...instead of trying to write a "subplot". I wasn't always like that here, but you know "market forces" and all...as goes 925...

;)

As an all Apple user, I have to say that while this situation is not going to benefit Pebble, they have far superior product.

This is something that won't go through the throat of any other Apple Watch user, because people have to somehow rationalize their buy.

Pebble has 7 days battery with watchface ALWAYS on. It has almost the same feature list but it also has TONS more watch faces and API for developing more. Something Apple still hasn't released for Apple Watch. Yes, it looks the way it looks but it is aimed at GEEKS while Apple Watch is aimed at Edge Masters and people with ego problems - I'd rather stay with the first group.

And that's from the guy who has most of what Apple released so far. It really served them better when they used to be underdogs.

I'm an iOS developer and I tell you from the very beginning that this is a normal process!

I've had apps approved in 3 days and apps approved in more than 2 weeks.

Apple doesn't discriminate between developers (and that's a very good thing) when it comes to its app approval process and the expedited reviews are granted for very special situations and mostly for app updates (like the case where the existing app version on the store is crashing right at launch).

The only situations where Apple may discriminate with the review times are when approving Featured apps on the store.

So in my humble opinion, the guys&girls at Pebble are just jerks trying to put pressure on Apple for their bad decision of not waiting to have their ****** app approved on the store and of course, they get FREE MEDIA coverage just for pointing dirty fingers at Apple.

There's no denying that Apple already approved their app twice in the past and not having any issues with it, and that's a fact!

Shame on you Pebble f*ckers! I understand that you're fighting with a giant in the same market but "play the ball" fair & square!

Wow, i'm super disappointed. Nobody has made any "destroy/smash Pebble" videos yet, not even for the original!

I want to see someone destroy this thing, and let me view the pictures only my iWatch to give me that glowing feeling of smugness i love.

BUT the pebble cannot reply to messages, hasn't got seamless integration with iOS which is what the apple watch does do, I have both the pebble and the apple watch whilst always on screen and 7 day battery does sound great, the apple watch lift to view works every time for me, why would i need to see the face when the watch is turned away from me anyway? the problem I had with the 7 day battery was laziness, most times when the battery died I wasn't sure where my charging cable was, is it at work, in the car, by my bedside cabinet, I couldn't remember what was the last time I charged the watch and where resulting in on occasions me being unable to charge my watch until a day or two later, the battery on my apple watch has never gone into reserve mode and I have always gone to bed with 40-50% remaining, so my charger is on my bedside cabinet with my other nightly chargers.
My pebble was unreliable with notifications, I don't think I got any email notifications in the several months prior to me swapping for the apple watch, I always get the notifications I want on my apple watch.

I loved the pebble for being what it was, the pebble time is a meh product in my eyes especially with that HUGE bezel, I still agree it has a place and that some people will love the device and maybe at some point there will be major competition from them to push apple on further.

Attacks on apple from pebble seem petty, as previously mentioned Apple approved the time 1.0 app, it was pebble themselves who refused to let it go on the app store at the last minute and try rush a 1.0.1 update through which has made iOS users who have been waiting long enough suffer with a non-functioning device (longer than apple watch customers for their product I might add if you count the end of the kickstarter campaign when monies were taken was at the end of March and some people have only just started receiving them now and general sale won't be until 22 July at least).

I'm not an 'edge master' and i don't have and ego problem not in the slightest, i am the epitome of a geek, but as a geek I can see the beauty behind the apple watch especially that app menu screen. At the moment, yes i would like a few more faces on the apple watch, but one thing that bugged me with the pebble was I kept accidentally rotating through the faces on the device and the standard faces were bad, whilst the apple watch faces are nice and can be tailored pretty well.

Each to their own I guess

Thank goodness you're not Apple because if a company is so worried about what people think of them they will be out of business before they put out their first product.

That's complete rubbish. Apples strength is its brand, stands for trust quality and support. Apple is very worried about what people think, you might realise they have the best customer service in the industry.

Thank goodness you don't work at apple.

I don't see this as an issue until it falls past the 2 weeks period, from when the new app update was submitted.

Sure Apple could have done it sooner, sure they might be playing shenenigans, like they did when they pulled Bose from their stores, and at the same time they could just be really busy, pebble does not get to jump the queue for review cause they are a competitor . When they 2 weeks is up, they have a case.

Explain - specifically and without assumptions or faux-omniscient insight into their behind-the-curtains motivations and/or thought process that you don't have - "Apple's behaviour". Facts only, please.
By "facts only" you mean published info, rather than experience, I assume?

Right and if the table were turned and it was Apple that wanted to put their software on Android device to compete directly with Samsung then I have a great feeling that you would be saying Apple is trying to be greedy.

Hi, I'm not really into this Samsung v Apple fanboy stuff. Can you get me up to date on it?

This is how I feel too. I'm increasingly swayed by the thought of getting an Apple Watch, but I do have a Pebble Time on the way too, so I want to play with that first... then I might see the Apple Watch as the next step, a refinement. However, pressuring me to get the Apple Watch because the app for the Pebble Time isn't approved doesn't endear me to Apple... I actually feel pushed away more.

I sent an email to Tim, whether he reads it or not I have joined the battle to get the app approved. The ball is now in their court as to whether they're a big enough company to see this sort of petty behaviour has no place within them anymore.
Yeah, it's an odd situation. I work in the games industry, and when I see people who make these games do horrible things (without going into details) it turns me off their games. You're expected to be able to separate the artists from the art but sometimes it's hard. And Apple are turning me away from their products. I mean, aside from the genuine problems like not being able to replace a battery or HDD in a MBP with each major revision locking even more hardware out.

It's within the normal review time. Learn what you're talking about before posting.
It's inching out of that now :) I've never had Apple take this long with games and software I've either developed or published. With the Pebble being a competitor to their recent device, and with Apple removing all wearables and similar devices from their stores, it's a bit suspicious.

.....you mean Pebble made a better looking watch, and Apple are pissed ;)

When big companies get BIG they (think they) can do what they want - Microsoft and IE, Google and Search, it's all about money and they're just not interested in what you think. Each of these Companies ABUSE market position and dominance, to control you.

So it's a watch, yes. It can tell you who just texted you and what that email you just got says. Then what? That is barely more than just a watch. Is the week-long battery life really worth it just for the alerts? A regular watch will give you battery life upwards of a year.
For the much lower price, the prompt delivery, the ability to read texts, e-mails, etc., when you can't get to your phone, the vibrating alert with caller ID of who's calling you during a meeting, and the useful battery life, yes, it's worth it.

I don't know whats going on with the App reviewers, I just got 5 app updates at 8am, and I had previously checked at 5am - so it could be they are just overloaded and trying to catch up due to the holiday. Not the mention the 5 yesterday (Fantastical, Camera+, Google Drive ... so not unknown developers). Lots of devs are adding/updating Apple Watch functionality to their apps over the past couple of weeks.

Lol. Don't forget that the Pebble is also water resistant without any doubt. It's a true competitor. I own both. They each have their advantages. It just depends on what the consumer considers a higher priority.
yeah, I forgot to list the true water resistance as another major advantage of the Pebble.

It's incredible that this product still can sell while the Apple Watch exists.

See below

Well, it does have a more readable screen in daylight, 7x the battery life, and a 2 year start in the market. Plus it's most expensive version is still $50 cheaper than the least expensive apple watch. So, it's not that incredible at all.

Exactly. It truly boggles the mind that people think that just because there's an Apple Watch now that it means there's no reason for any other smart watch to exist. And that everything is inferior. Or that everyone's use case is exactly like theirs.

To quote the person at the top of my post - it's incredible.

I've always admired the Pebble Time ever since it first was released. While I don't think Apple is doing anything nefarious here, I am curious to see what it's like to use vs. the Apple Watch, neither of which I've invested in yet. That said, some of the Samsung watches wouldn't be awful to use, if only they paired with iOS. /blasphemy

I've been swimming with my Apple Watch numerous times and take showers with it everyday. Water Resistance hasn't been an issue.

I do have some questions about Pebble.

Can you respond to notifications ? Like can you send a text message, make a call, reply to an app from the device itself ?
