Isn't verizon ditching CDMA with their 4G network? I heard the US Military wants to use CDMA and everyone else will use GSM.

Man I love reading these, so funny. Several points to make. One, good riddance if you all leave ATT for Verizon, sounds good to me. Less whiny people complaining about how crappy ATT is and how good Verizon is. Thousand bucks says that Verizon would have had the same issues as ATT with the iPhone 4 launch. Second, I doubt Verizon will announce anything until later in the year if they are getting it anyways because they have the Droid X releasing soon. They don't want to eat into those profits by making people wait for the iPhone. Third, they're just rumors. Man people froth at the mouth every time they see these rumors. Verizon sucks plain and simple. :D

People say that about at&t, too. It all depends what part of the country you live in. I live near Chicago and everywhere I go I have full 3G coverage. Hell, I'm in my basement right now and I have 4 out of 5 bars. And I can make phone calls. :)

PS - no network, 3G or 4G, Verizon, at&t, T-Mobile, etc will ever be able to handle the iPhone.

why does everyone keep on bashing AT&T for their servers crashing. Verizon would not be even able to handle the load either. Apple sold out of the first stock of inventory the first day. something they did not expect. but blame it on the white iphone not being released. if apple had equal quantities of both black and white iphones =1.2 million iphones. Apple dropped the ball because they did not have the proper quantities in place. But why would AT&T upgrade their systems to handle the load one week a year? not very economical.

I use Verizon for my landlines and everytime I attempt to pay a bill, their site goes down and I end up paying over the phone. The customer support person always apologizes to me and explains that their online payment site is always down.

I've never had this issue with AT&T. In fact I've never called AT&T customer support to pay a bill.

Granted I'm talking about paying bills, but I'm comparing to similar backend services. One company does is well (AT&T) and one does not (Verizon).

Cungular was owned by AT&T (previously SBC + AT&T(Ma Bell)). All they did was do a name+marketing change.

If I remember correctly, before Cingular did the name change to AT&T, Cingular bought out the old AT&T (TDMA network). I was a member of the old TDMA AT&T before they got bought by Cingular.

CDMA Iphones and Ipads have been testing for several months but it doesn't look like they will ever be released. CDMA/LTE Iphones and Ipads continue testing and will likely be released once LTE is rolled out.

I'm guessing AT&T knew that Apple was opening the iPhone to Verizon later this year, which explains the upgrades they were offering to iPhone 3GS users. They wanted to lock people in before this news made it to the public.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm in the UK so this doesn't affect me personally, though of course I am aware of the opinion of US customers on the subject of AT&T.

The light went on in my head as soon as I heard about AT&Ts "generous" upgrade policy. It smacks of desperate measures.

Do the CDMA haters have no comment on how the original iPhone was EDGE only? Let me tell you something: EDGE is dead. It'll be replaced by 3G in approximately 5 seconds.

How come no one ever talks about the possibility of a Sprint iPhone? Sprint uses CDMA as well, and bringing the phone to both providers would provide even more much needed competition.

People seem to forget Sprint exists sometimes, which is odd because they have the best deal for near-unlimited plans around.

I wonder if they have overcome the CDMA battery life issue somehow or if it will have LTE support since VZW states LTE end of this year/beginning of next for quite a few markets.

Apple will add LTE, on the next iPhone which will happen when AT&T has it's roll out, presently targeted for the majority if it's markets by the end of 2011.

Picture it's June 2011 and Apple releases it's 5th generation iPhone with LTE. That make sense. The CMDA fantasy is a stock manipulation scheme.

Check your ISP bro. Im in and out of my Verizon Wireless online account many times almost every single day and not once since Ive been with Verizon (since Prime Co) have I ever had their online account access unavailable or their site down.

I have made TWO posts about this in as many days but have gotten NO response. I have no idea why people dont talk about Sprint. Maybe its because its assumed that when its released on Verizon it will be simultaniously released on Sprint too. ( they share towers and roaming agreements already )

Anyone? I personally have verizon, but am actually thinking of leaving and going to Sprint, and getan EVO and wait for the iPhone. and Verizon is just too expensive anymore.

The iPhone on verizon will be just as expensive if not more and won't have the same experience.

It's just like the iPad. Most everyone I've talked to about it thinks it's worthless, just a big iPod Touch... And for most people that's about it. But Apple's selling millions of them.

Most everyone you've talked to? I'd really be interested in fact checking that, but im too busy enjoying the hell out of my ipad.

its gonna be a 4g phone for sprint to handle the data

P.S. Verizon can go jump off a cliff

I have said this before and I say it again: How many of you people who are so certain that Apple will NEVER release a CDMA iPhone also said Apple would NEVER release a tablet? Its a veritcal market. It will never sell. They don't need one, they have the iPhone/iPod touch. Need I go on?

The truth is we don't know. I think there is a lot of evidence to support an eventual CDMA iPhone, but its conjecture and heresay. I hope so. I hope it has CDMA rev B. I hope it is also 4G ready for when Verizon gets more LTE network. Like the ATT iphone, it will default to CDMA when LTE isn't available.

Lol you guys are acting as if verizon is an amazing customer friendly affordable alternative to AT&T ..... Fact is verizon has equally horrible customer service, ridiculous prices and their network can be crappy at times as well despite what the marketing says..don't forget their love for crippling phones and locking everything.

Without reading the whole thread, why are people so adamantly against VZW getting this thing?? You act like because you have it on ATT you are in some kind of exclusive club and you dont want the rest of us to have it. Look around, everyone and their kid has an iPhone. You aint so exclusive. Isnt more competition and choices better???

And this argument that CDMA is dead, they will never bring it for that reason, is retarded. Right now there are 98million potential customers using CDMA. Sure VZW will be updating their network to whatever the newest tech is (LT-whatever), but does that mean that all CDMA phones will no longer work then?? Highly doubtful. So all those CDMA iPhone will still work.

I have no interest in a Verizon iPhone but I'm now hoping Apple produces and sells a CDMA phone. The more people that leave AT&T, the better my service will be. Win-win.

Nah, you already lost. ATT service sucks and it still has less people on it than Verizon.
Verizon has like 92+ million subscribers and ATT has 87 million.

I'm hoping Apple does offer a Verizon iPhone. Maybe it'll take some stress off of AT&T's network and make my new iPhone 4 work that much better.

iPhone to Verizon madness

I agree with that, i was with Verizon for 10 years and they nickle and dime you for every single penny not to mention MAJOR crippling of phones. Verizon is all about control and they have lots of people drinking their red koolaid. I seriously doubt Apple will just make a CDMA iphone just for their network, with 4G just around the corner. If it does come to verizon in the future, its going to be one phone with both CDMA/GSM and 4LTE radios in it. One phone for all carriers...

P.S. I wouldnt be surprised if Verizon is pushing out these rumors out every few months to try to keep their own subscribers from switching. Last year i was one of them. I was waiting for Verizon to get the iPhone last year but it didnt happen, and i am very happy i made the swtich and have enjoyed my iPhone 3GS ever since and am very excited about the new iPhone 4 coming to me next Thursday.

I spoke to a lawyer friend of mine about Verizon possibly getting the iPhone soon saying that's why AT&T is probably trying to lock in the 3GS users for early upgrade and thus an extended 2 year contract. He knows a lot about contractual obligations and said it's UNLIKELY and if they had signed an agreement, it would've been out in the open by now.

On the other hand, if Steve Jobs wants to squash the growing Droid fanbase, he just has to open the iPhone on Verizon.

CDMA only has a battery life issue --- against GSM.

When you put a CDMA 3G phone against a WCDMA/HSPA 3G phone --- the battery life is about the same.

I actually think Sprint will end up fully launching their 4G network before Verizon can launch theirs. If you look closely, you will see they've been building up to this (and building cash reserves) for a few years now (consider how they've sold off ownership to their towers and instead lease them, roaming agreements with Verizon, and fine tuning [slowly] their existing 3G network). That would be a good network for an iPhone.
