LOL! Actually, that's my top case! The one hat came with the unit was beat to hell and had missing keys so I used my old one.

Going to mess with this thing tomorrow and see if I can't get the trackpad to work again.

Is the whole bottom pan warped causing you to have issues getting the trackpad connector to stay connected?

No. The piece that the connector locks into came off the logicboard. I can apparenty jigger it enough that pressing the power button works, but neither the keyboard or trackpad is recognized.

At this point it's looking more to me like I will be getting an entirely new A1013 with my refund. One that hasn't been banged up or is being sold for parts/repair.

Getting tied of expending energy to fix something only to find that because of age or damage or both things no longer work like they are supposed to.

More and more that is likely to become the case, but at least once I'd like to buy a system (PowerPC) that I don't have to "repair" or "fix" to make it work.

Perhaps it may be time to just fix the existing PPCs and put all future money towards Intel Macs. That is pretty much what I am doing aside from an iBook G4 I want to get.

Very sad revelation, since parts are becoming harder and harder to find. I STILL cannot believe I haven't had more trouble with the Ti I have, seems to be fine after all these years.

Since 2009 I've been able to find quality parts on eBay listed as "For Parts or Repair". Recently however, that same method that has saved me lots of money has started to backfire.

More and more the parts I am finding are becoming sub-standard. Old age makes things brittle. Damage makes them hard to work with. I'm going to have to eat it sooner rather than later and pay for better parts. Which, in itself is no guarantee because of the age of these machines.

I want to replace this Mac with another A1013. The problem with that is that that model of Mac was made in 2003, so any I get is automatically going to have had 11 years of use already.

The current Mac must have been dropped. The LCD was cracked, one of the fans does not seem to be working (the Mac is hovering at temps around 130-140º) and as soon as the L3 cache appeared, it disappeared. I cannot close the lid. That would be something I could try to solve, but only if everything else was in working order - which it isn't.

I'll get what I need out of this pile of parts and see what I can do later on to replace it.

But yeah, it is sad. Because it's an indicator of where things are headed for all of us once our main machines start breaking down.

These Macs are old, and even though it's Apple there's only so many years we can get out of them.
