I'd love to see a Mac Mini that was more of a Mini Mac Pro tower than the current Mini (which is mid to low end).

Affordable platform for expandability and customization for those of us who can't afford a Mac Pro - sized something like those thin-client business workstations made by HP.

New Mac Minis of any kind could be complemented with revised Apple Displays - what a combo!:D

As someone commented above, Wifi-N as well. And we've got to find something better than the 3100 graphics cards, how about 128mb ATI with option to 256Mb?

Any thoughts? :)

I have opened up my mini a few times, there really isnt any room for a 3rd party mxm card.

I too have been praying for a Mac Mini Gamer model or Mac Midi ala shuttle

Yes, they NEED a mid range mac tower. Yes the imac or the mini are sleek and look soo cool. But I need additional hard drives, and video card so an imac would look a lot less sexy with all the cords external drives and video card....plus the extra power supplies that the drives and card has.....It would be a mess. I am upgrading with in the next few days (from an old but pimped out G4) and have actually found myself browsing the dell website:eek: . The specs of an imac or maxed out mini are what I need but I also NEED expandability...

Sorry a bit off topic but I needed to vent a bit.....

It seems as though just about every thread I read nowadays reveals someone new begging for Apple to release a computer that is at the very least gamer-friendly. Very rarely do I see anyone asking for a Mac that is catered toward pro gaming - advanced cooling, SLI or any of that jazz - just something that has a dedicated graphics card that isn't complete crap in a package that costs less than the outrageously-priced MacPro at $2800. Does Apple not do market research? Do they not hear that more and more people are calling for a game-friendly Mac? Or are they just stubborn?

If one is going to pay a premium for Apple hardware/software, why should one basically be prevented from any sort of worthwhile gaming?

With 67% of head-of-households claiming to play electronic games regularly, Apple seems to be ignoring the giant elephant in the room.

Or am I the only one sensing this?

it just seems so half hearted by apple, why offer bootcamp? why make a fuss about EA coming back to mac last year at WDC?

I thought for a while now that the WWDC announcement about EA last year was a defacto announcement of a new "gamer" machine. Whether this machine overlaps with the mythical midrange mac (headless iMac) is another question--it would be nice if Apple could kill two birds with one stone here. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I hope apple will never do that to the mini. When I browse the internet or work on a simple document I like to listen to the sound of silence. Adding such components to the mini would destroys its essence.

I'd rather see apple adding a desktop model to their line-up. A headless machine for users that also use aperture, final cut express or play a game once in a while. Yep, that's the xMac everyone talks about.

tomorrow i hope

I hope it's tomorrow, i can't wait another day to replace my mac! I was disappointed after the last rumor for a release two weeks ago was reported by that german site. :D

Me too. I already sold my G5 iMac and can't wait another week. I bought a 24" iMac at Futureshop, then returned it the same day. What was I thinking?

It's not so much the (alleged) CPU upgrade that has me interested but the potential graphics update.

I've been saving for an entry-level iMac for a while and should be purchasing at the end of this month so hopefully that should be plenty of time for the update to surface.

The 2.0GHz was always going to be plenty for my needs and the RAM can be upgraded cheaply enough, but a GPU boost would be great. Even if they just add the 2600 to the £800 iMac and boost the rest, I'll be happy. Every little helps :D

I don't think they'll change the 1GB standard RAM for any of the 20" models though. I reckon 1GB will still be standard and 2GB for the 24".

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Overall, I can't wait to switch. C'mon Payday...

As much as Id love to see the upgrade tomorrow, im doubtfull as there isnt any other leaked info pointing to this.. i would think that there will be at least some other sort of clues the night before release

i somewhat agree with you on this point... unfortunately... i'll also be really disappointed if the online apple store doesn't go down overnight and see new iMacs in the morning... but it could happen... it certainly wouldn't be the first time rumor/news sites didn't catch something the night before.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought for sure we would have heard something coming down the pipeline. I'll still be checking the online store early in the morning though. :D

I think it will be such a small update that we will get little-to-no warning. I sure hope its tomorrow though, I have my plastic standing buy on my keyboard.

I with you all, I don't think it will happen tomorrow. We would have seen something else leaked. It's going to happen in the next 4 weeks, but you don't need crystal ball to say that.

I don't think it will happen tomorrow, but that won't stop me from getting up early to find out and order one.

We didn't have any hard evidence of the MB and MBPs a couple weeks ago...

your monitor might be an inexpensive 17" from Tigerdirect. Add another $150.
Add $200 for the cheapest 20" monitor if you want to match the iMac spec.

Are those prices accurate? My 24" was only $250 (and it's not a cheap TN
panel either) but that was a Black Friday deal.

But the point is, i think, that even if you spend a chunk of change on nice
input devices, displays, and speakers you can reuse them later when you
replace the Mini. If you buy a 24" iMac you have to retire its display along
with the rest of the machine.

New User for Mac Mini

I've been a PC user for 17 years...
until Vista came along (Vista is crap and XP has 10,000 updates:eek:). Then I switched to Mac:apple: - Mac mini - and I really like the change. It was a great way to begin to experience the Mac; to try it out and see if it meets my needs. It was a little challenge to re-learn a new operating system, but now I'm ready to buy the upgraded Mac mini. Then my wife and I will have made a complete switch to :apple:Mac:apple:. I am just waiting for the release of this upgraded mini. I just hope the rumors are true. We do mostly e-mail, web internet, light productivity, and light gaming. The Mac mini is perfect for us.:D
