It would be nice to see the mini get the X3500 instead of the x3100. Even better, the mini would get the radeon hd integrated graphics, which have great hardware decoding and ecnoding.

yeah but what i wanna know is when the MBP's are getting updated.
next tuesday maybe??
i jest.

hah, but you are not far off, i held up on buying this model because it didn't offer much advancement over the one i already have. Would love a new case, Blu-Ray and built in Broadband WAC chip. ie verizon or AT&T.

I hope the stuff about the desktop machines getting smaller isn't true. I think it's great that Apple is slimming down the portables to the extent that they have, but there's no conceivable reason to make the desktops any smaller than they already are. Given that the primary complaints a lot of people have about the iMac/Mac Minis are the trade-offs of power/features for size, it makes me shudder to think that Apple would move even further in that direction.

I hope this rumor is correct. There been a lot of rumors about hte Mini being discontinued.

I would like one for many reasons but also to do some iPhone development.

As the CPU is not running as hot, we may see some slimming of the iMac, but it makes little difference to me, I think it is fine as it is.

The French store has on and off refurbished 24' imacs on sale for 1500€, is it worth waiting for the update to have another discount or will they sell them for the same price after the release? Cause I actually really need (and want) a new one and I don't think the hardware update is worth wainting for, so it's just a matter of saving a few bucks
If I was sure it was on next tuesday, I'd wait for it, but if it's uncertain, I'd rather just buy now a refurbished one.

Lets hope this isn't true. Apple has nothing to lose. all they need to do is slide in a new CPU. same slot.

also they could put in a better intel integrated graphics chip.

neat lil machine!

Ohhh please make a 30" iMac! Please. Please. Please?:D

I'd be down with this as well. I dig this 24" iMac, and think larger is better.

I understand the argument of keeping the display independent from the machine when it comes to displays of this size, but I would probably grab one up.

Although I don't think you'll find a travel bag for a 30" iMac any time soon. ;-)

Would buy an updated mini in a heartbeat...the GMA 950 has been the only thing holding me back.

iMacs will see 2gigs of RAM for sure along with Penryn. Maybe 500gb hd instead of 320gb? I doubt we'll see a graphics upgrade unless it's a move to 512mb of video ram.

$100 price drop if they only touch RAM and cpu.

Mac mini was a great idea... the sequel should be called "the forgotten child" Update the bloody thing for God's sake.

There haven't been a lot of rumors. It was one rumor started my Mr. Kasper Jade on AppleInsider. Do the research, the guy doesn't have a clue or any so called inside sources.

I was completely happy with my 27" Sony Trinitron. I imagine they should have never pushed technology to make newer TV's slimmer.

See how that logic doesn't quite work?

I agree. I think this is a good move for apple. I don't think they will make the mini attractive enough to siphon off buyers from their more upscale choices. However, at this point, I think that the graphics chip in particular is so underpowered that some people simply won't buy it.

The only problem... the mac mini end-of-life thread was almost to 1000 posts. I guess it won't get there now.

I really want a Mini, but I would love it if it got better integrated graphics, WiFi-N and GigE. I don't actually care if it got a updated CPU or a smaller form factor.

So, should I wait to open?

Hello, Macrumors.

I recently (I mean, really recently) purchased a new iMac 24" with standard options (I'm not sure if Applecare counts as customization, if it does I'm screwed). What I want to know is: can someone direct me to Apple's policy on the matter of exchanging for a newer product. The computer is supposed to arrive next week, so if Apple updates the line, does that mean I'm screwed? I'd really appreciate any help on the matter.

Cheers,
Kenny

Not quite the case.

Mac Mini has i945G chipset with Intel GMA350. This chipset does NOT support Penryn and it's not pin compatible with i965G. (I'm talking about Northbridge pins)

So, Apple needs to design a new motherboard for the Mini to update it to Penryn.

X3500 upgrade would be better but I highly doubt it since not even Macbooks have this. I wonder why Apple is not using X3100 instead of X3500, since X3500 has hardware support for OpenGL 2.0.

Well... Montevina will have X4500 with full HD decode/encode and OpenGL 2.0. I guess they are just going to skip X3500.

Do the iMac's need to be slimmer? I mean I could see you slimming down the portables, they are mobile and can always be lighter, but an already anorexic desktop? Meh...

Yes, we need slimmer iMacs. 512MB graphics card that is used for the MacBook Pros should make it in. I doubt we'll get a new case this time, probably the next update. Hopefully a 30" will come with it.

Now my iMac will be out of date :(, but oh well, it doesn't really matter since I'm happy with it and it was bound to be out of date soon enough.

The problem with tech and life is that we are a little bit out of date every day that goes by...

I'm quite happy with my Day One Al 24" iMac, but I think the Mac Mini will serve me better then the :apple:tv so any improvement to it would be most-welcomed.
