Not always.

This year they have been releasing most of their product updates on Tuesdays as well as usually making announcments on Tuesdays.

Last week they released the Airport Express on Monday and historically they have released new products on other days including releasing last year's Imac on a Wednesday.

Don't give up hope just yet.

I actually had an Apple Store employee tell me over the weekend to stick it out a few more weeks.

I sure hope so. I just saw the iMac 20" screen and it stopped me right there. If they dont fix it I will be torn between a 24" iMac that will be too big or a Mac Pro & 20" Cinema Display, which I dont want the CPU "box" under my desk.

The gradient of brightness as well as the color shift when viewed from the side, is unacceptable for a $1500 system.

I gave up the wait a week ago and bought a new Mac Pro with 10GB of ram. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It sets a new standard, you can't even tell it is on it's so quite. If you can afford it get one.

thanks for the support:) I'm using my old Tibook (6years old) so I guess I can wait a little longer.. I just hope that I don't have to wait until June. or whenever the San Francisco thingy is.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I've been looking around for a cheaper monitor though. The apple monitors are just too expensive and the reviews i've read are not always good.

c:\windows; what monitor did you get?

I'm going to wait until the next imac update incase it's a really good upgrade

iMac ?

I've been waiting for the new iMacs for weeks, and I also have been thinking of getting a Mac Pro instead. Very tempting... so much easier to add/change drives, add a Blu-Ray later on, upgrade RAM or the video card, etc.

I would get a single quad-core 2.8 and add RAM later...
As for the LCD, I am thinking about the 24" Samsung 245BW, currently 400 $ CDN at FutureShop.ca
Seems like a good deal for all-around use.

Anyone has experienced or compared the Samsung and Apple ACD 23" ?

The refurb store in the UK is offering iMacs of all the standard builds at a 'Limited Time Special Price' of 18% off - methinks a new model is imminent?

They did it with the MB and MBP before their updates too, about a month before I think it started...

Will apple hold off an update till the mobile quad core comes out is my question.

I too am awaiting an update to finalise my desision to either by a top of the line imac or go with the more expensive, but more upgradeable mac pro.

Supposedly reports on the new penryn processors suggest a claimed increase of about 5-12% increase in performance with a penryn processor (a claim made by intel themselves) a recent review I read gave an increase of 32% when a 2.5ghz dual core penryn laptop was pitted against a 3ghz pc with a pentium D.

Considering the nature of the imacs archetechture (being build with mobile equipment) will a penryn update really make all that much of a difference unless the archetecture of the new internals is much better...

Still the mac mini will see a huge leap in performance I suppose.

Unless the top of the line is more future proof I will probably go with the mac pro... but the imac is soooo pritty ... sigh..

Penryns biggest boost is in saving battery life and asorbing less heat. Penryn is much better for the laptops, but its not a significant thing for the Imacs!

Monetrivina will be though. DDR3 Support among other things. Intel says release is in june. I dont think I can wait that long. I want one NOW!!!!!!!

I may be wrong and if I am please tell me...but, Doesnt Apple kinda wait a period of time before putting in a newly released processor into an iMac? So if Intel releases Monetrivina in June it may not show up till the early 2009 update of the iMac.

Just random thoughts...

Did anyone notice that they were selling Mac mini's on the recent woot! off yesterday? Woot! never sells Apple stuff and yet they were unloading mini's on the woot! off, could they be helping apple get rid of some extra inventory before the roll out of an updated mini?

Also, please don't even tell me that the next processor will make the imac even better. I don't own one yet and I have been waiting for this refresh if I think a better one is coming down the pipe I'll be holding out for that. I think there is a term for people like me who cant buy a gadget because I'm afraid that the next great thing is coming and have to wait for it, but I don't know what that name is. Anyways, I hope this one is a good enough refresh for me to jump on the apple bandwagon.

Its good to see someone so happy !

As a note there is always a 'better one coming down the pipe' whatever you buy. Certainly the rumours floating round that apple isn't about to ditch the mini and the current spate of upgrades points towards a new mini at some point. It is due a quicker chip thats for sure. It certainly doesn't seem sence to hold back on the low level entrance to the mac owning world as I'm sure apple can see the advantage of getting in new users with a low cost model, getting em hooked then trying to pursuade them to spend more on a meatier system or on futher upgrades to an established system.

New ones almost here

Hey All,
I think it pretty safe to say the New Imacs are very, very close. I gave up on waiting so I went to my colleges school store to get a new imac and all they had in stock were the bare bones 20 inch, which are on sale. He said they were trying to get rid of all of there current models before getting more. As I talked more and more with him he kind of hinted they were waiting for the updates to get more in stock. So I drove down state to the apple store to get the top end 24 inch. Apple upped the student discount on that model from $150 to $300 over night (though it appears to only be in store, still only $150 online). Another happening I took to mean something new is very close. Anyway thats just what has been going on here, take it for what you will but something new is close for those of you patient enough to wait. I wasn't but im not complaining, love my new iMac especially for $1900.
:apple: Take care all

They didn't do that BEFORE the new ones came out, but the day the new ones came out the old models were then discounted. Discounting a month before would just be silly...

Did this really happen? I'm on my store right now and the discounts are still only $50, $100, and $150 for the top model.

Who knows? It's been a long time since Imac was last updated. To be fair, it's kinda shameful that they haven't been lowering the price at least!

I think it would make sense if Apple decided to skip Penryn. Penryn came out in Jan 08. I think they might have decided to wait 6 more months, and until Montevina, and then give it a full fledged update. Perhaps with a new look, graphics card and so on?

An update will have to happen soon. Imac is selling great, but its becoming increasingly clear, that it needs an updated. Even back in august, people where mad about the graphics card.

Personally I hope for a revamped Mighty Mouse, a 2 TB Hard Drive, 2 GB ram standard DDR3, a powerful GFX card(8800 GT at least), and perhaps... Well... Quad-Core wont be likely until 2009. But perhaps a 3 GHz Core 2 Duo! It could be possible!

But if the rumors are true... that Apple instead of making it more powerful, will make it much more thin, then its likely that it wont be more powerful at all.. just thinner. I can see why they want people to become interested in the Mac Pro, but people love Imac due to its simple and organic design. the incredible screen. no cable hell. monitor and computer in one. its the perfect machine.

I really home they will try to make it significantly more powerful.

I just have to ask, WTF does this mean? WTF is "off/on the woot"?????

Woot! is a website that sells one thing everyday for a good deal and every once in a while they have what is called a woot off where they sell a number of items one at a time (when one sells out they put up the next one). By the way have you ever heard of google?

Lets get back to Unreality

Is there, or is there not, going to be a new Mac Mini VERY soon? Like next Tuesday (April 1, 2008).
The applications I must use have grown in complexity and hardware demands. I can barely do what I need to with my current Mini, which was fully loaded when I bought it a year ago. I have had to give up on 3D rendering in SimPlant 11. So if its not going to happen soon, I must go out and invest in a Mac Pro.

(I cannot tolerate the chin on the iMacs, sorry. They are very un-esthetic compared to the Cinema Displays, and much less ergonomic.) But since the Mac Pro is one of the oldest if not the oldest case design in the Apple lineup, with my luck, after I invest $5000 for a Mac Pro, a new model will come out in June.

Who here thinks that its actually counter to Apple's best interests to be so unbelievably secretive about their plans? I think many people keep money in their pockets because they don't want to be disappointed by a model change three weeks after they make a major investment.

Also, in a recent article, it was stated that Apple was currently in the "engineering Build stage" on the Mini. Can someone tell me what this means? I hope it doesn't mean that they are still thinking about how to change the Mini.

By the way have you ever heard of google?

No, whats google?

So everything that I have never heard of I should immediately google? Ive heard the expression "woot", but never of the website. Maybe you should have CAPITALIZED the first letter, or left a link, it to make it stand out. Shocking I know, that not everyone has heard of every website you visit.
