Penryn iMac and Mac Mini Updates Soon?

Unlikely. Even once Intel releases the chip, Apple will need to engineer it to work in MBPs and iMacs. So I would not expect to see quad-cores in those machines until MacWorld 2009 in January.

So it is more likely to see an interim Penryn update and then the new four-core models (with new form factors?) coming next year.
 
...And I'll continue to wait for the stuff that really matters...

Here's my wishlist:
- 30" High-Def Screen
- Blu-Ray slot loading Reader/Writer, to show off that HD display
- Better Graphics Card (This one is a given!!!)
- Higher Memory CAPACITY, so I can upgrade post-assembly at Crucial for cheap

Though BD support and a better graphics card would probably sell it for me.
 
I absolute agree with you dentaldoc. I'm just saying I'd like to know what's going on with apple before I wait OR decide to just update my personally and completely homebuild PC myself.

I really do want to jump on the apple bandwagon I do. But it's hard when you have no clue what their intention is.

Also, I'm sorry voodoodaddy for the smarmy google comment. I thought most savvy internet people had heard of Woot! especially since they are known for such great deals on the web. But I am sorry, especially because I am definitely going to need serious advice if I do decide to take the apple plunge. As of right now apple is where I am planning to spend my 1800$ tax rebate that the govt is going to give me back (thanks idiot repubs. I guess I'll get something useful out of you ruining the economy) but that could change.

Also, I don't know why raymen thinks I'm so happy, I'm actually pretty miserable waiting for this update.

Yes it did. I was surprised when the guy told me the student discount was $300, but thats what I got. I got the 24" top model for a little over $1900. Maybe it was a mistake on his part but I doubt it.

I was so dang close to just buy a Mac Pro today at best buy, but then I thought, hmmmmm what if the new iMac does appears on Tuesday April 1? Plus it cost $2700 and that doesn't include the screen. I'm developing a border line personality with this waiting and waiting! or a SFW disorder.
 
I'll I want for my Birthday is a iMac to be released on Apple's and my Birthday... April 1!!! NO JOKES EITHER :) And since I am 1 year older then Apple.. If i dont get what I want I will have to be the bully and rough someone up....

i somehow think u're right. but damn i wish i could get a low-end imac with an ipod... would've been a great deal!

So am I... I've been waiting for an update for the last 4 weeks and have been looking everywhere on the Internet for additionnal rumors.. I can't take it anymore! PLEASE Apple! Give us our candies..

Only 4 Weeks!?!? I've been waiting since Christmas!!
 
I've also been ready for weeks to buy an updated Mini or iMac with matt option (though the latter's unlikely). But tomorrow would surprise me & even the 8th might not see updates (though surely it can't be much later than the 8th). Just hoping the waiting won't drag on into May. :eek:
 
I've been waiting for 2 months now. Still don't NEED a new iMac, but it would be nice if it's updated tomorrow. :D

I'm new to this thread and Apple. I needed a desktop and notebook for my office. I picked up the new Mackbook pro 3/6. I'd like to get the New IMac tomorrow>>>>>>???

This morning I received an email from apple promoting time capsule and linking to the specials page as well. they're trying to unload the refurbs.

Tomorrow might be the day.

They've been showing off their freakin' refurbished for the past month! So, YES we know it's coming.. but WHEN!? I'm just glad I'm not the only one desperate for this update. Let's hang on all together then...

i actually think it will come out tomarrow and i would'nt surprise me at all either because apple is like that. They want everything of theres to be perfect and it is the same with the release dates too. They'll release it on April 1, tomarrow, not april 8 or the 15 because those dates just don't sound right. so come on steve, make it perfect release it tomarrow!!!!!!!!!

Based on other releases, does apple usually post the official news at 12:00pm on there site, www.apple.com, or do they just post the news when they feel like it tomarrow?

I hope there is an update soon...

...for those who could hang in there. I've been biting my nails for months holding out for a new mac mini or an imac...i couldn't decide. I did now, though. I could stare at the apple store anymore. I just threw in the towel and bought a 20" iMac! I'm so excited! I hope FedEx rushes it to me!

I'm with you.. So very close to pulling the trigger on a 20" iMac myself... I think I can hold off until Wednesday (after a potential Tuesday announcement) :D

I don't usually hope I'm wrong, but I dearly hope you're right! Just seems a bit quiet regarding the usual pointers seasoned observers watch out for & here in the UK, Apple's Limited Time Special Price iMac sale is still going. :)
