That's it, I give up!

I am SO tired of waiting, it's killing me.. I couldn't even concentrate in school.. I was hesitating between a portable computer and a desktop one to watch TV and my tv shows in my bed.. I finally decided not to wait for the iMac anymore. I just ordered my Dell 22" monitor to use with my future MacBook. Now, it's done and I have the best of both worlds. Good luck to everyone else still waiting!:apple:

I'd laugh if they came out next Tuesday now

It's great for me because i'm a student - So i'll get the educational discount. But the even better thing with the wait is the fact that i'm saving so well. Every penny I make I put in my ISA and the way it's going i'll be able to buy myself a top config iMac when the new ones come out, so I hope they don't come out till June or i'll not be able to stop myself spending my saved cash on a lower spec version!

Next week...

Someone did predict a WHILE back that the update will occur on the 29th which made a lot of sense...so I believed that person, and I'm gonna stick with it and hope for next week.

Ok, it's great to hope, but can you tell us exactly why it makes sense at all? I mean today seemed more of a perfect day than next Tuesday seems to be. I haven't heard anything about next Tuesday so if you have the link of the prediction could you please post it?

At this point....any date looks good.;););););)

I know how you feel as most of these articles claiming to have insider information obviously know diddly-squat.

So I asked my pet monkey for a date. He thinks it could be some time in June/July coinciding with the Montevina platform, though he isn't sure about the exact date... or so he claims. Probably holding out for an extra bunch of bananas. ;)

The next full solar eclipse is August 1st. There is something cosmic about this day, so Apple will release their next update then! I'm sure the monkey would concur.

My pet rock tends to disagree though. Her feeling is that there will be some catastrophic world event before the end of spring, so all this talk of the next Apple update is all moot. Stupid pet rock... always putting a damper on things.

Jobs announced the original iMac on May 6, 1998.... May 6th happens to be a Tuesday this year which is also 10 years since it's introduction. If I were a betting man, my money is on this date.

Hopefully it will have a better display, as with the previous white iMac. The current display problem is the only thing holding me back from buying new with the MacPro is positioned ($$$) far above most people's budget (a-hem... mid-range MacPro nano/xMac/ :apple:Cube). Not that I expect them to redesign the iMac, just make it better and fill the gap.

That could work as an "announce date", but I am not sure if Apple could actually have product (with Montevina) ready then. However, if Apple can get it into the store within a week or two (tops), it could work since they could do some specials to clear out the current stock.

Have I missed something here..?

Putting aside Penryn, Montevina, Nehalem and all the other code words for a second, let's just look at what is currently out there... in particular the recently upgraded MacBook.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong here (and I apologise if this has already been suggested, this is a long thread), but take the current MacBook, take off it's monitor (including iSight), keyboard, trackpad, microphone, speakers and battery then surely you're left with parts that would fit into a MacMini enclosure, parts that Apple have already sourced, are above those of the current MacMini and are already buying in bulk.

The iMac, I admit, is a different animal but surely it would be a quick win and satisfy a lot of people if Apple were to release a MacMini with the current MacBook specs (obviously, minus the above parts).

I'd certainly be in line for a 2.4Ghz Mini with 2Gb memory and probably wouldn't be the only one.

Yes, and the cooler-running 45nm Penryns would help with the constraints of the case.

But having waited so long, why not wait a few more weeks and ship it with Montevina which will not only run cool, but offer better memory and integrated graphics performance?

The MacBook Pro and MacBook went to Penryn so quickly because they directly benefited from the lower power draw and cooler running, both of which improved battery life. The Mac Mini does not run off batteries (yes, I have seen the battery mod) and the Memrom's are not the furnaces the Prescott's were, so the need to move to Penryn was not there - as it was not for the iMac, either. And if Apple was getting Memrom's cheaper then Penryn's (which stands to reason), this improved Apple's profits on those two lines.

So basically what you guys are saying is that May 6 looks like a good release/announcement date? If so, I can wait until then.

What I am saying is that once Intel formally offers the Nehalems for sale, I would expect Apple to soon (within 4-6 weeks, but hopefully quicker) new Macs using it.

I still think Apple will wait until the $300/1200 rebate/refund/income redistribution checks by the IRS are mailed out, which is on May 2.

Which STARTS on May 2. It goes by the last 2 digits of your social security number, and people with high numbers (for example, me, in the 70s) will not be getting checks until July.

My money is on the 29. For no particular reason at all, but I feel like it :D

I waiting for new Mac Mini. How is the performance of Mac Mini who have used before?

I hear there won't be any new iMacs.

Apple's trying to get rid of as many as the can before they drop the price of the Mac Pro and 22" Cinema Display to $999. 24" is $1299, 30" is 1699 and 52" is $2999. They'll also be eliminating the laptops. You either have to have an iPhone, a mini with a 8" LCD touch screen, or a Mac Pro with side mounted Cinema Display. You may be thinking woooahhh, Steve is off his meds and is taking us back to the days of the luggable "laptop"! That's only because you don't know that thanks to new membrane technology you will be able to roll up all of them like an umbrella. And yes, they come with that cool button that makes them automatically pop open.

All will ship with OS 10.6, Lynx. And the most astonishing...the G7 processor! All those supply problems Motorola was having were just a hoax to give Apple reason to team up with Intel so that Motorola could focus all of its resources on the new covert project. The new processor was developed through a Motorola, IBM, Apple, and US Shadow Government project using technology reverse engineered from a flying saucer. Thanks to superconducting material (yes they've got it and the first use will be in a Mac) the G7 runs at room temperature and consumers 5 microwatts of power. All Macs will charge themselves off ambient light.

But the best part is they all come out tomorrow!!! Haha fooled you! It's a Thursday not a Tuesday!

Personally I can't wait to see the PC & Mac commercials. I think the PC might just kill himself.

That is a good fooled. How can Steve Job remove the notebook industry market. If Mac Pro cost ~$999 I would buy it!

I really do think one of the OS Xs should be Lynx. I can see it now:

Lynx
Linux?
No L-Y-N-X!
Yeah, I said Linux
