If they update the mini, I hope they don't change the size. Or if they do, I hope it's the same size as Time Capsule. ;-)

I also hope the power brick doesn't change size either.

Did you guys not read the article about how Apple don't want to install Blu-Ray drives until the can combine CDRW with writableBlu-Rays? This makes sense to me, as I am not bothered about Blu-Ray until I can actually write files to it. That would be awesome. Until then, no point for me...

I really hope that an iMac update comes really sooner - "anytime in the next 4 weeks" could mean up to 2 months, if the MBP update is anything to go by

Apple, please give us a treat, plus I really need it!!

I noticed yesterday that for the first time in a long time, Apple has mac mini's up on its refurbished store.

I noticed today that the prices seem wrong/too high for those refurb. mac mini prices!

I always thought they had a $599/$799 price point, not $799/$999...?

Fine, then don't get it but, don't rag others who want to have it. Geez. Stop apologizing for apples unwillingness to provide it's customers with what they want.

Wrong. Sony laptops have had Blu-ray for at least a year that did 1080p on beautiful 17" screens. I sold lots of them.

That's because those beautiful 17" screens have 1920x1080 resolution. You are selling those laptops and oyu don't even know their specs?

Possibly, there will be BTO options for Blu Ray after June, in the next refresh only for the laptops which support 1080p specs and for Mac Pro. Unless Apple updates the whole ACD line and starts offering 1080p in iMacs and 15.4" Macbook Pro.

will the new mini be able to run Final Cut 6?

with the upgraded graphics will the new mini be able to install and run final cut ?

The iMac market isn't geared toward techie ppl that want to fool around with innards...its for mom and pops to have a fancy computer in their kitchen. You are right, it is just a laptop that isn't portable. I love it for what it is, because it is "pretty".

The market you are looking at is the mac pro. The price is steep to get in on that, but as long as the iMac uses laptop hardware, there will ne no upgrading graphics.

I have to disagree, the iMac is more than capable of doing Pro work. The Core 2 Extreme model works perfectly with Final Cut Studio.
Sorry but your explanation of who the iMac is for is quite an ignorant response. News flash, computers ARE for doing WORK, there's no real point in buying them just to tinker inside of them.

I just hate it when people say that people buy Macs only for a pretty computer but they will buy a PC to get real work done, very ignorant response. Macs are not toys.

Mac Mini Wishlist

While I would be happy to see a very much anticipated update for the Mini to get SR and X3100 graphics, I think I'll wait a bit until it gets Intel's (rumoured, I think) X4500 graphics. But a better option would be NVidia 8400 or 8600 graphics chipset, which is on the MBP. I would easily sell my now resurrected desktop for that.

oh god..
so my alum imac is about to become "obsolete"

if they put a better graphics card i'll be really psdoff:mad:

Just because they release a new version of product doesn't make the last version obsolete. Your iMac will still do everything it does now exactly the same. Releasing new products doesn't magically change older products.

Also... you'd get mad because they improved technology for new buyers? Make sure to let Apple know when they're allowed to update products though...

Personally I'm so glad the mini may be getting an update. I just bought mine a month or so ago and love it to bits. I can only imagine the joy an updated model will bring new users!

My wish: dual-link DVI on the new iMac and Mac Mini to drive a 30" display. A wish, a hope, but knowing Apple they will still want you to buy a Mac Pro to have desktop machine that can drive the displa. Using my MacBook Pro as is, is the only way I can drive my 30" Cinema HD right now, and I would like the advantage of a dedicated desktop machine to drive the display. $2000+ price for the tower is too much for me, right now

It would be great if the mini could support the 30". Hopefully they would also release some new displays soon. Unfortunately I doubt either of these will happen.

Blu-Ray's not just about watching movies, it's about 50-or-so GB of data burnt to a disk. That's pretty awesome, and perhaps Apple wants to get people hooked on Time Machine/Capsule as a method of backing up rather than people burning 50GB Blu-Rays disks. That said, there's a market on the Pro machines for authoring Blu-ray content, so that's where it would likely happen first..

Well said. I develop interactive educational apps for psychologists and would love to offer Blu-ray. Video quality aside, the interactivity is so much better than DVD. In the meantime, I'm stuck with iShell for authoring titles.

The problem for Blu-Ray is that you can get a 250 GB harddrive for less than a 5-disk pack of Blu-Ray disks.

True, but I remember $5.00 per CD-R disk about 10-12 years ago and they slowly went down in price. DVD-R media took much less time to drop. Hopefully Blu-ray will follow the past trend with optical media.

whoo, it's a good idea I decided to hold off on my iMac order.

I think it will be within the month judging on how fasat they threw out the Penryn update for the MB & MBP. Plus they are rushed due to the fact that Intel is dumping Merom already.

I just bought a Mac mini for iPhone developing, yesterday... And now there will be new ones... @&#%¥

Form factor 1:
The LED hardware-units are inherently thinner than backlit LCD. So Apple doesn't have to do anything but mold a new casing for the iMac to make it thinner. Sure, they could always stay with today's shape and put some old socks in there. But in the end, form factors have been proven to affect computer buyers (smaller is better and greener).

Form factor 2:
It doesn't matter how powerful Apple would make their Minis, if they weren't small and quiet they wouldn't have a future. There are simply too many bulky and noisy alternatives already out there.

Personally, I rank form factor as #1. The rest matters of course, but all computer hardware is already so powerful that I can easily afford to rank performance #2. Aesthetics rule! That's one thing that Apple is actually proving these days.

Just because they release a new version of product doesn't make the last version obsolete. Your iMac will still do everything it does now exactly the same. Releasing new products doesn't magically change older products.

But sometimes it does seem like they do. I remember when I got my Beige G3 333 it was a screamer.

Here's hoping the get rid of the glare-o-matic glossy screen and give a proper matte anti-glare screen. That had stopped me from buying the iMac late last year.

I'm in the same boat! I really hope the matte option becomes reality!
