Would be nice if they introduced a matte screen option with the update... but I'm not holding my breath.
I thought the glossy screen would be a problem, and yet I hardly ever notice it. The vibrancy of the colours completely make up for the minimal distractions it causes (mostly when the screen is displaying something that's mostly black).

Also, the screen is made of glass...

more likely it will stick with merom but get the SR chipset. They love to keep the mini crippled, for some reason.

Because they know given the choice, most people prefer a headless Mac and they don’t want to take away from higher margin iMac sales.

This update would actually make a lot of sense even if Intel wasn't phasing out the old processors. Right now the cheapest MacBook has a 2.1 GHz processor and cost $1,099 while the cheapest iMac has a 2.0 GHz processor and cost $1,199. Granted, 0.1 GHz isn't going to make much of any difference, but it's still very strange to have a faster laptop cost less than a slower desktop.

If they intro a Penryn based iMac, I may have to consider a purchase.

I'll be looking to get an iMac for my mother to see if I can encourage her to use her computer more often.

LED backlight?

Is Apple committed to LED backlights for the iMacs by year end 2008, or was that promise only for the portables?

Wow! What is going on? I've never seen so many Apple updates in such a small space of time. Talk about a complete contrast to pre-Intel days. It's an exciting time to be an Apple fan ...

I think there has been an update every Tuesday since MacWorld, even if it was a pink Nano one week and new Shuffles another.

I placed an order through my university on the 18th for an iMac and it still hasn't arrived yet. I was getting worried about the delay until I read this rumor and immediately called the campus computer store. The manager there said that there was a delay in getting iMacs and his rep at Apple couldn't say why they were holding onto orders. This would seem to confirm an upcoming product refresh for the iMacs.

Please, please, please have updated graphics cards. (Or at the very least offer a 512MB option for the top-of-the-range model).

My money is ready Apple...

crap

I need advice. I just ordered a 24" 2.8ghz 1TB iMac yesterday. It likely won't be here until Saturday or Monday. Should I cancel the order now, or wait and return it in store (unopened) if there is an update on Tuesday?

What I'm wondering really, is will I get a full $ refund in the Apple store (minus the $33 express shipping)? Or will I have to pay that 10 percent restocking fee? I hope not. :)

Thanks MacRumors peoples!

I just sent back my 24" iMac because I hated the way too bright glossy display too much. I really hope Apple offers a matte option on the next revision!

80% chance that you try to return to retail store you'll get denied of your returned item..

Since its Custom item....

If the iMac update is next week then there a likely chance of a 'preview' of redesign of laptop line @ WWDC or lil bit after that..

Man, Apple sure is kickin ass with these Tuesday updates this year! Lets hope this is true, even though I don't care about any of it.

The glossy screen problem is overrated. I have color edited on worse monitors than that, and the display isn't that bad.... other than the reflection that is :D

Glad to hear that Apple is being forced into updating their hardware. Hope to see MacMini updates and hope that the iMac does receive a new GFX card, but as others have said, I won't hold my breathe.

I am more interested in the refurbished ones that will be available for purchase. :D

80%? Are you sure? I'm canceling my order right now then... crap. :( You're really certain? (Your post count leads me to believe you are!)

No one get sad about this, as an instance or a trend.

I just got the 8core and then two days later the "waiting for nehalem" thread started...

The important thing is you have a machine that can handle what you need it to do. My system hasn't exceeded 25% an any time... so my problem is solved. Old system couldn't handle what I needed to do audio-wise.

Be happy you have the option to buy a computer and the luxury of a current machine to allow you to wait for an update or two.

May your next macbench score be a factor of ten increase, like mine was.
