If they do bump the RAM to 2 GB in the base model, would it likely be a 1X2 GB RAM module, or 2X1 GB modules?
more likely it will stick with merom but get the SR chipset. They love to keep the mini crippled, for some reason.![]()
Be happy you have the option to buy a computer and the luxury of a current machine to allow you to wait for an update or two.
May your next macbench score be a factor of ten increase, like mine was.
The problem with this is Intel is phasing out the Merom very quickly, and forcing Apple to update products that might otherwise not have seen an upgrade until June, i.e. Macbook.
The mini will see Penryn sooner than you think, even if it's only because Intel forces the transition.

Apple will always give users TWO 1GB chips. These dual core systems work better with equally paired RAM, so it helps those that don't want to upgrade for a while, but for us, the ones that want to upgrade immediately, is sucks.
I do wish they had the option of just getting ONE 2GB chip, or NONE whatsoever.
80%? Are you sure? I'm canceling my order right now then... crap. You're really certain? (Your post count leads me to believe you are!)
The glossy screen problem is overrated. I have color edited on worse monitors than that, and the display isn't that bad.... other than the reflection that is![]()
Yes, but regardless, I canceled the $2,600 2.8ghz iMac order. If I'm going to spend that much money, I'd like to wait and take the risk that a matte screen will be introduced. I live in "Sunny" San Diego in a small, all white apartment with LOTS of windows... I can at least dream that Apple cares enough to offer matte for us folks. The step between this iMac and an equal Mac Pro+23" Apple Cinema Display is about a $1,200 difference.![]()

Would be nice if they introduced a matte screen option with the update... but I'm not holding my breath.

I completely agree! If apple is being forced to make updates that they would not otherwise do for a few months, there could be updates very close to eachother.. There have been rumors on design updates for the MBs, MBPs, and the iMacs, which could mean another update for these products may come up right away.. making many consumers of these products a bit upset!
Anyone find it funny how Apple seems to be getting bullied by Intel? Usually Apple seems to be in charge.![]()

I wonder if the Mac Mini will get the Penryn love too next Tuesday.
What a gip. Yeah, they should at least offer the option for no RAM. It isn't very environmentally friendly of them, since the 1GB modules will just end up in the trash.

And you know what? I'm willing to pay a little extra for the privilege of a matte screen option. So before anyone jumps in with that tired old line about how it would cost Apple too much to do it, bear in mind, that I would be happy to pay for that option. But Apple has, thus far, shown no interest in offering it.
You might want to hold onto your original RAM: I received a weird "source media" error when trying to install Leopard on my MacBook CD with 2 GB of OWC RAM. Restoring the original 1 GB from Apple allowed the installation to go through, and then I swapped the OWC RAM back in. I haven't had any trouble since. There's some speculation that the installation process for Leopard is a bit more stringent on non-Apple RAM than everyday usage is.OWC will let you do a trade up type thing where you buy the new RAM and once it is installed, you send them your Previous RAM sticks and they will credit you the difference. I could be wrong about that but doesn't seem like something I would make up from nowhere...
I would too. No question. The screen is why, even though I would so love a 24'' I continue to hold off. And ponder one of the older model white ones.
