Thank you :) The constant whining of late has been starting to bug me, it's time some people started being realistic.

AMEN! If it works like it's supposed to, I have no complaints. When something starts obviously failing or hindering my work, then I might give AC a call.

Omg, I've started to realize that I'm one of those bad picky people who want a flawless product. Apple works soooo hard, never asks me anything (except $1299 but that's nothing, is it?) and I'm always whining because of a scratch on my screen on my bent lid, because of slanted keys and loose battery cover. "Man, live with the fact that your new product looks like a refurbished one..." I'm the one to blame, you're right, if my next macbook is flawless, I'll give it back to Apple and ask them to give me a completely flawed one, as an apology.
HOW DARE I ask a flawless macbook...

Man this thread makes me want to start a company just so I can sell trash to all the people on here who are so willing to accept a flawed product.

I can't wait until I'm C.E.O. of Apple so that I can tell stores to stop accepting returns/exchanges for cosmetic flaws.

Dead pixels and functionality flaws I'll take, of course, but none of this slanted keyboard nonsense.

If you bought a shirt and found a stain on it when you got it home (cosmetic flaw) would you bring it back or wear it?

If you bought a new car and there was a scratch on the hood (cosmetic flaw) would you accept it or demand they fix it?

If you got your house painted and they missed a spot would you accept it or would you have then touch it up to complete the job you paid them for?

I'd see it in the store. "But..." Nope. I'd see it in the store.
I wouldn't be looking at a car with a scratch on the hood. It wouldn't be new in that case.
I'd do it myself or not at all. Doesn't bother me.

Nothing is perfect. For your sake, you should hope that the opposite gender doesn't treat you the same way you seem to want to treat property.

I agree that nobody is perfect, but things - as my laptop - can be perfect... In fact, my last laptop was flawless. That bad perfect laptop made me picky, that's all.

And what if you didn't? And how does that apply to buying a MBP? Did you open yours at the store and inspect it? How would that apply to people who ordered online?

I guess you have never bought a new car. A new car can most certainly have scratches on them. Do you think they just magically appear on the lot? they are transported there a number of ways, on highways. Scratched happen.

I would love to start a company to sell to people like you who do not care about quality work and are willing to accept the lowest quality.

Starting a company would be disproportionated.
Begin to buy refurbished products from Apple and sell them the full price.
That's a big deal! :D

The problem comes in your flawed examples. In each case, I am allowed to see the product before I purchase it. A better choice would have been that of another online retailer. Let's say I buy an aluminum Rosewill hard drive enclosure from Newegg. If the internals of the case are broken, I would return it. If there is a scratch on it, assuming it is not prohibiting the case's function, I'd deal with it. Guess what? You're going to scratch up your computer. You're going to dent (maybe not dent. It's aluminum) your computer. It will get in a used condition. This will happen. If you can't deal with it when you first get it, you can't deal with it when it gets there from use.

You will make your battery cover loose, and you will slant your keys too.

Please, tell me you always buy refurbished products when it is possible.

Nope. New. I'd rather not chance something going wrong component-wise with refurbished.

My keys aren't slanted (Penryn, but my desktop keyboard's keys aren't), my battery isn't loose. Surprisingly, it's actually still flush. Also, my display isn't warped and my casing is flush with the plastic border.

Perfect machine. I guess I can't really relate to the people who have had "problems" because of the ten Macs I have, none of them have any cosmetic or component flaws whatsoever.

This is going back to my Apple ][ and LC 575, as well.

Really good for you!
Then why some people could not get a perfect machine too?

I disagree. I take very good care of my things. My last computer was a Dell laptop that I had for 7 years. I still have it and there is not a scratch on it. It is discolored where my wrists rested on the body, but other than that it looks like new.

Of course it will eventually get to a used condition, but I am not buying a used product. I am buying a new product. Why should I settle for a used condition when I am paying for new?

If I am the one who scratches it then I can certainly deal with that. Like I said, I take very good care of my things. If I do scratch it then it most likely will not happen for quite a while. Even if it happens tomorrow though then it will be my doing, my fault, my responsibility.

If they want to sell computers that are cosmetically imperfect then I am all for that. They could sell them at a discount just like most other industries do. I can buy a Le Cruset dutch oven brand new and perfect for $325 or I can buy one of their "seconds" which are cosmetically imperfect. Most of the time you can not even find the imperfection. The same dutch oven as a seconds will cost you about $200 or less usually. When you are buying a new product there is no reason you should not expect perfection. If the seller wants to sell something that is not perfect then they should do that at a discount.

It would be highly unusual to be allowed to return a vehicle after driving off the lot; I'm certain almost all dealers would say it didn't leave in that condition and it, justifiably, say it could have happened at any point after you left.

Apple could (and probably should) start doing the same as its obvious *some* people really take advantage of their desire to provide top customer service. Only difference between the car lot and new computers is you can't really inspect before you purchase which is why Apple gives you 14 days.

Actually this is incorrect. In most states you have a 3 day time period where you can return the car or have repairs done if something is wrong, like a scratch. This actually happened with one of my cars. I bought a brand new car and a day later found a scratch inside in a place that you would not necessarily see right away. The dealer fixed the scratch without a word as they should have.

I don't care if someone said it already, it should be heard from me too. WHY DO WE PAY MORE FOR APPLE PRODUCTS? Got to ask yourself this before complaining about why some of us complain or don't take even the "minor" defects. :apple: MUST have better QC for what they are charging!!! It should be flawless... when one decides to charge $2K for certain spec which should cost considerably less. I don't know about others but why do I pay premium on :apple: stuff? It's mainly cosmetic, right? For me it is...enough said...:D
you hear all the complaints:

my pixel is dead, my f6 key looks on a lean, my battery cover isnt perfect.

if it was a dell or something like that these issues are tolerated, and possibly not noticed because people dont go looking for them to the same extent.

the f6 key on my new macbook isnt completely flat, i dont care - it still works and i actually had to put my eyes down to the level of the computer to notice it at all. other than that, my ones perfect but the amount of people claiming that theirs isnt are either ****-stirring or just being overly picky

i know apple is a premium brand and we pay more for the quality and design of the computers but they are making thousands of these, a slanted f6 key can easily go a miss and woudlnt be economical to repair anyway. to get an absolutely perfect computer every time, we could expect to pay 30% more due to the higher overall costs of production.

the **** stirrers are the ones that say that their screen was 1cm out of alignment with the bottom case. i read that on appledefects some time. i though what a crock of ****, apple wouldnt every miss that and the manufacturing process wouldnt allow for a stuffup that big anyway.

anyway, we all have great computers and most wont be absolutely perfect but thats just a matter of perception. they are streaks ahead of dell and hp so just be happy with that.

lol @ the people trying to say that paying more money for apple products has something to do with better quality or something else.

Apple products cost more solely because they do, and people will pay for them.

I diagree:rolleyes: so are you saying a manufacturer doesn't have to do anything, people will pay more for whatever?
