The reservation email confirmation I received from Apple clearly states that it will be held until close of business. It will be difficult to get there before 5:00pm due to work. I may try to get to the store early just in case.

Yeah I even told him that the email states that it's reserved until the end of the day. He just told me that each store has their own rules when it comes to the reservations and 5 PM was the time he was informed they would stop. I wouldn't trust them completely, but just the heads up I guess for people who were planning on going after work.

I guess I'm taking a long lunch on Thursday...

Do you guys think my friend and I will be ok if we get in line at 630am? We both reserved phones at the apple store 1min from my house and work is a 30 minute drive away. Do you think we'll be able to get there by 9:30 with our new phones? :)

Mulitiple Phones

Will it be possible to get 2 phones on 1 reservation?.....trying to upgrade my wife's phone also......

I would call the store and let them know you cannot get there until 6:30...they will probably hold your phone til then...

5pm is great. Cause everyone gets off work before 5pm.

That is all fine and dandy, however, if you read the fine print in your 'reservation' email;

Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

I don't think Pre-authorization is the same as a reservation.

I plan on getting to the store around 8 a.m. to pick up my reserved phone. I'd really hope that it doesn't take longer than an hour, at the longest. I don't think my store/city is one that would suffer from the long lines and hysteria.

However they refer to it - that was the fine print found in the reservation email.

i made a sucessful reservation for 1 with intent to get a 2nd in store to sign up under a new family plan. will they let me get the 2nd even though my confirmation email says 1, but has the family plan selected?

When you get there, you'll find out.

I'll be picking up mine sometime early afternoon hopefully. I'll need to wait on the first one to show up at my house. During the pre-order melee I was only able to ever get one phone in my cart. Worried that I would miss out on both, I went ahead and completed my order.

Hopefully by early afternoon, they'll have all the activation woes worked out, and some of the lines will have dissipated.

if your reservation is confirmed (you can check in the apple store app on your iPhone) - then they will hold your phone for the entire day.

anyone who says otherwise does not have a reservation and looking for any reason to cast doubt on us lucky ones.

confirmed by several different Apple stores in my area, and most importantly, by the one I reserved mine at. :D

You're right, they aren't paid for, just reserved. This will be my first big line since the 1970's and Eagle tickets! LOL, I just aged myself. I think 4 AM is my time to get to the store in Sacramento - only 10 mins (with no traffic) from home.;)

I'm also in Sacramento. I'll be picking mine up at the Roseville Galleria store. I'm planning on getting there just before 7:00am. From what I understand there is typically one line, and an Apple employee will go up the line asking if anyone has a reservation...if so they will move to a different line (short I hope) which moves quickly.

Does this process sound correct? It's my first time reserving an Apple product.

I just called the Apple Store at University Park Village in Fort Worth, TX and told me that your reservation is a guaranteed. I even had her ask her manager to be on the safe side and said the same thing.

I have a reservation thank you. I am only 'saying otherwise' to bring to everyone's attention that as per Apple's reservation email; a reservation is NOT a guaranteed phone. Yes, they will hold onto your phone until the end of the business day, assuming they do not run out prior to you getting there. This as well has been confirmed by numerous Apple employees AS WELL AS THEIR OWN EMAIL.

I am just trying to warn everyone, get there early.

Everyone check your email for the fine print, it's there - I guarantee it.

Then why would the manager at the Apple Store near me say that my reservation means I will have a guaranteed phone?

Pre-authorization has nothing to do with a reservation. Simple disclaimer that was carried over from a previous e-mail confirmation to this one...

Not sure why people keep pointing to it....

Man, for some reason that Eagle's story sounds like you went through some ****. In line for hours, people everywhere, riots against police.

or maybe my imagination takes ahold of me while im bored at work.

I am sorry, are you in possession of an Apple dictionary in which you are referring explains the difference as to "pre-authorization" versus "reservation"?

Or perhaps you would like to point out the source of authority as to where it is stated that this was a 'simple disclaimer carried over from a previous email?

Because clearly it is inapplicable...?

Show me where is says a "reservation is NOT a guaranteed phone" in the fine print. The disclaimer CLEARLY talks about a PRE-AUTHORIZATION.

The fine print is in reference to pre-authorization by AT&T. If you show up and it turns out you're ineligible to get the phone at the reduced price, they are saving their hides. This is what the Apple store manager told me.

For those who reserved one and want two, you may not get to do that. Last year during the 3Gs launch, I had reserved a 16GB black 3Gs and wanted to changed it to a 32GB, but the employee said I couldn't do that. I would have to wait in the standby line, and there was no guarantee they'd have anymore by the time that line filed down. I took the 16GB and exchanged it a few hours later after a second shipment came into the Apple Store that afternoon. I have a feeling the iPhone 4 will be in shorter supply though. I doubt they'll have them in stock at the end of the day.

Gee, kind of looks like the reservation e-mail....

Oh and this....

In case you don't want to click the link...
"Pre-authorization: A process you go through online after selecting the Buy Now option that asks you all about your AT&T account, what phone options and prices you have based on your account details, what data/text message plan you will be buying, and what store you will be going to. You receive an email confirmation telling you the next step is to visit your nearest Apple store to complete the buying process. "

Hence the first come first serve.....
