People that reserved for in-store pick up...have some info for ya.

I went to the apple store to buy an iPod shuffle today, i asked about my name on the "list" to make sure it was there. The guy came back out and said "no, I didnt see it on there, you better get here early" I panicked a little, then he laughed and said "just kidding, you where in the system, we will hold it for you until the end of the day the 24th" I got a good laugh out of it.

WOW! That guy better be careful...some people are VERY SERIOUS about getting one of these phones and may not have your sense of humor...he was lucky with you...LOL

don't want to spam up the forum with another thread so I hope someone can answer this

I have a reservation for my iphone upgrade but was unable to get one for my wife.

If I get there early (planning on being there at 5am) will I be able to pick up my reserve and get a 2nd phone for my wife if they haven't sold out?

or will I be sent to the back of the walk up line?

If you're going to get there that early anyway, I would wait in the walk-up line. Then when it gets to be your turn, you can get the non-reserved one and I am sure they will have no problem giving you the reserved one at the same time.

If, however, you wait in the line for your Reserved phone, they will likely give it to you and then make you go wait in the walk up line (which really is only fair to everyone).

Just my opinion.

The store even has machines now that allow them to transfer all contacts and information from ANY phone onto your new iPhone, just like they can do in the AT&T store. There are only two of these in the store though, so the wait may be awhile for this.

OK, quasi-related question that's probably a stupid one, so please forgive me... If I'm in early enough and there's plenty of time for me to go through this process in-store (the transferring of contacts, etc.), are they gonna trip off the fact that my current phone is jailbroken? Is the contact info just stored on the SIM so I could feasibly pop that out and give it to them without them having to get up close & personal with my 3GS? I know it shouldn't be a factor because it's not like I'm getting a warranty replacement or anything, but I also don't want to be on the receiving end of any kind of Apple witchy pointed fingers of shame or anything like that. :)

I agree, we had talked for a bit about iPods and what would suit my needs, shuffle vs nano at the gym. Im sure he was able to read me and knew to make the joke. He didn't drag it on, right when he saw the blank and oh sh*t look on my face he said just kidding. Either way, the amount of jokes and stuff I pull at work I better be able to take a joke or get messed around with in return, no matter who its from. And also, I think some people just need to lighten up in general and have fun and live a little, after all it's just a phone, there will be more.

That is all fine and dandy, however, if you read the fine print in your 'reservation' email;

Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

And we all know some Apple employees are just as bad as At&t reps with regard to saying different things and not really knowing the truth - point in fact, I was in an Apple store on the 15th and heard an Apple employee explaining that they might take 1,500 reservations and only have 1,000 phones. Why you ask? Who knows, but the point - your reservation does not guarantee anything. First come - first served (with regard to at least the people who did reserve of course).

Preauthorization is not the same as a reservation. A reservation is a reservation for an iPhone, as in an iPhone is reserved for you. A preauthorization is something issued by AT&T that authorizes you to purchase a subsidized phone. The email refers to a preauthorization not guaranteeing the availability of an iPhone. The reservation does state that your reservation (your reserved iPhone) will be held until close of business on 6/24 and that if that deadline passes, your reservation (your reserved iPhone) will be cancelled.
