Register say delayed until tomorrow?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/17/iphone_3/

Hmmmm. Delayed until the 18th due to Apple doing some last minute mods?

theregister.co.uk said:
Apple has announced that the latest version of its iPhone OS will be available from tomorrow, forcing iPhone users to twiddle their thumbs for a day longer than expected.

The update brings with it bunch of much-awaited features, including cut and paste, MMS and support for Bluetooth headphones. iPhone users have been chomping at the bit to get hold of the new release which was expected today.

The reasons for the delay aren't clear. The fact that hacking group The iPhone Dev Team spent Tuesday evening demonstrating how to unlock the OS - allowing phones to be used on other networks - could have something to do with it, but more likely it's a logistical issue. Either way, Apple aren't saying anything.

There were some links floating around the internet to a direct image of the new OS, though the fact that they have swiftly disappeared would seem to indicate Apple is spending the day making some last-minute modifications to the OS before tomorrow's release.

But one more day without MMS or stereo Bluetooth shouldn't bother iPhone users, who'll still be able to flaunt their new functionality before the weekend. ®

Unknown of their sources though.

no. theregister is wrong.

They are basing it on a singapore url which says 18th. It's just due to timezone differences.

Oh I hope so, and I agree with you. Just as they haven't stated their sources for their assumptions I thought I would post up to see if anyone knew better.

Trust me Arn, I'd like the update today if possible

EDIT: I've put a comment into the Reg article requesting Sources or if they've just cocked up looking at the Asia/Pac websites and not the dates on the EMEA/US pages.

Thats why I posted it too. I dont specifically believe them, mostly because thereg is like "the sun newspaper" :p

And yes it does tie in with the eastern website release dates.

I downloaded 3.0 the other day (presumably the final beta?). Brilliant brilliant brilliant and it's fixed some bugs which i have only known to happen on my phone randomly like when i plug the earphones in it is also started the iPod app and played the first song in the song list which was very annoying. But that's fixed, it's much quicker too, and a pleasure to use with the new features too. Should we expect to see more features/improvements in the public release today or what? And i guess will it ask to upgrade from the version i have currently on my iPhone 3G? Cheers!

You can refresh all you want but that won't make the 3.0 update for your iPhone appear any faster. In fact, you might want to give your trigger finger a rest for a few hours -- Engadget bud, Richard Lai, noted in a tweet that Apple's Singapore site says that the iPhone OS 3.0 update will release on the 18th while Apple India says the 17th, the date announced by Apple -- the difference presumably accounting for the 2.5-hour timezone offset between the two countries. That would peg an OS 3.0 release anytime between 1700 and 1930 in London or between noon and 2:30pm in New York. But don't let a little knowledge ruin your obsessive behavior, where's the fun in that?

Update: The theory is supported by reports that carrier 3 in Hong Kong sent a network-wide SMS notifying iPhone owners that OS 3.0 will be available on June 18th, 01:00 local time. That's 1pm on the 17th in New York, 6pm in London, and 1900 in central Europe.

The Register have corrected their recent article which said the release was delayed, but replaced it with another error, stating that the error was because Singapore is the other side of the International Dateline.

Of course what it means is that Apple will release the update after 16:00 GMT (Singapore is GMT+8h) which would be after midnight in Singapore therefore the 18th.

OK c'mon it's at least the 17th of June EVERYWHERE in the world now.

No-one's going to be ahead now Steve hit the red button!!!
