I didn't really want to start a new thread for this as there are so many on 3.0, but when the update is released how can I set it up as a 'new' phone? I know when I restored recently it could be set up as a new phone, but does the same happen with these updates? I can't remember the last time I did a software update!

Thanks in advance!

has anyone installed the iPhone 3G s software on their old iPhone 3G yet? does it work?

What is all this speed dating stuff on the MacRumors homepage?
It's probably for all the people that stayed up all night waiting for 3.0, hahaha!

ah damnn remember last year installing 2.0 for the 3G on my first gen one.... ah well!

for those who already have 3.0 is it worth getting the official release??

or the better question is, can you???
i think since i am running beta 5, iTunes see my phone as already @ version 3.
i am going to have to go into boot loader mode and use the 'recovery' feature to get the 'official' release.

can you not just restore the phone and when the official 3.0 is out use that to restore?

I downloaded 3.0 the other day (presumably the final beta?). Brilliant brilliant brilliant and it's fixed some bugs which i have only known to happen on my phone randomly like when i plug the earphones in it is also started the iPod app and played the first song in the song list which was very annoying. But that's fixed,Cheers!

Give it a couple days.... It is not fixed...

I have gotten two replacement iPhones with the exact same problem. It is a hardware issue pertaining to bent pins in the headphone jack shorting out. Restoring the phone as new would stop the problem for a day or two, then it would come back.

Basically what is happening is you have a bent pin touching the pin that is used by the play/stop button on the apple headphones.

Mine would only start doing it after using the phone app. If I hard reset the phone, it would act normal until I got a phone call or used an app with sound again.

You'll need iPhone Boot Camp for that. You'll have to wait for 4.o and the dual core/64gb iphone. It will allow you to boot OS X or Windows Mobile on your iPhone.

On the upside, by then AT&T should say I'm eligible for an upgrade.

I brought my MacBook Pro to work today because a friend wanted to see it for herself, so I made sure to bring my iPhone cable too. One other nice thing about having my laptop at work besides being able to update my iPhone to OS 3.0: my full music library instead of my abbreviated iPhone library.
