Look at the bright side ... at least everyone is going to have fully charged iphones today. :D
attachment.php

Clicked it nothing happen but my system rebooted and a pic or bill gates dueling with Steve was on the screen after that and Steve got bill right in the chest. Blood covered the monitor screen.
Then the system rebooted right back to the OS. Man that was cool.

Wild.

:p

Think about, how in the future, we could tether for an iphone update... in the car :)

I was thinking about this on the drive in to work today. The only way I could get the update while at work is if I installed the pre-release 3.0 so I could tether my laptop, download the update, then put the real release on. Sadly, I actually considered doing it.

hasn't it been confirmed that the pre-release 3.0 GM thingy is the same as the official 3.0 software to be released today? i thought someone who got an early 3GS checked the software version and it matched the 3.0 GM file that's been circulating on the interwebs.

for those who already have 3.0 is it worth getting the official release??

It's nothing to get all hot and bothered about.

It took me about an hour for the whole process to complete. You have Spotlight, which is handy if you need to find an app w/o sliding through the pages. You can text landscape (I prefer the regular way). You can forward a text (not something I'll likely do). Clearing a conversation is harder (for me). No MMS. I'll wait until much later to upgrade from 3.0 GM.

I brought my MacBook Pro to work today because a friend wanted to see it for herself, so I made sure to bring my iPhone cable too. One other nice thing about having my laptop at work besides being able to update my iPhone to OS 3.0: my full music library instead of my abbreviated iPhone library.

Exactly. Why am I un-productive at work every time there is an iPhone software update? Good thing my boss is an iPhone freak as well

I'm really hoping that the official 3.0 release has some bug fixes compared to the 3.0 GM.

Problems that exist:

Massive battery drain
Apps having the wrong icons
Apps that just disappear and you have to reload them
Apps still say they need updating even after you update them
Laggy, maybe due to Push Notifications taking up RAM
Keypad still messes up from time to time
----

Feel free to add to this list. I honestly can say the first three are very annoying.

About a minute and 30 seconds into this video of the 3G S, it shows the Software version and build under settings....that build is 7A341....which is the same as the GM thats been going around

I have none of these problems

Hey, don't discount the ability to forward text messages. I've got a buddy that asks me to forward directions to parties, etc. to him all the time just to rub in the fact that I have a $300 phone that can't forward texts.

If apple wanted to put a button through rigorous testing, all they have to do, is say that an update is coming out, and look at the results of the check update button

Is there any way to check for the update besides clicking the "check for updates" button? Like a website or something?

Do any of you feel link that, the button is not even working anymore, because you pushed it like 3 sec after another, that it doesnt even check the server to see if it's been updated, and just tells you its not

I honestly feel there going to push a itunes update out and then after the update of itunes then it will let you install 3.0 for the iphone. that is just me.

I have been thinking that very thought all morning, but figured I was just being paranoid. To me, it's as if iTunes is just telling you that it checked because you just asked 15 seconds ago. Maybe it's because that what I do with my kids. I dunno.
