Perhaps OCD is not a good term to use because there are truly OCD people in this world and dealing with one would not be a pleasant experience.

But just because its my first iPad, it's not my first consumer experience with a product. It's really listening to all the complaining that goes on in this forum about any little thing from not getting your device at 10 am on launch day to the magnets being wrong on the cases. As a society,we no longer have ANY flexibility or tolerance for imperfection of any kind. We've just become so spoiled.

Yes I agree we've become spoiled but I have a difficult time relating this to buying a product. I think it's one of the few areas we should be spoiled and we should demand better products. I'll take a stab here but I'm willing to bet that Apple is quite aware of these screen issues but know that the majority of people will not or don't have a clue what to look for in a quality screen.

The forum comment is another thing that kind of bugs me. If people didn't ask questions or create threads it would make for a really broing place. Yes the search feature and not creating new threads when there are tons on the same subject is a valid complaint but one that I can overlook by ignoring them.

You make very valid points and I agree with you. And believe me, I spend time on many forums and most are no different. I ignore most of the threads with people complaining or if I feel I have no useable input. I guess everyone reaches a point where it just starts to sound like a broken record. I just wish sometimes, more of the satisfied customers would provide legitimate input.

Here here! :)

B/c you guys all had me paranoid about dead pixels, inconsistent tinted screens and such I noticed a huge dead pixel group (about 1/4 inch round) very noticeable on my daughter's Nook Tablet. Since I paid for the extended warranty, I just received a brand new free replacement. Thank you Macrumors! :D And I'm not being sarcastic. :)

Now back to the original post....

Now, don't discount me just because I'm "insensitive." I returned my first iPad 3 because of the entire screen being a very noticeable reddish hue and the top part leaking light in daylight (even the Apple Genius said: "Yeah, that needs replacing"). But after reading all these posts and people asking if their screens are ok or thinking they have problems - a lot of it is made up worry.

I gotta agree here. It's one thing if you really do keep getting defective product (though if Apple really is that bad, why is it only certain people have these experiences? If they had that bad quality control, they would not have a good reputation at all. Even with a good return policy people get sick of having to keep returning a product. And if this happened a lot, people would stop buying Apple products).

But I think a lot of this is people finding some little thing, freaking out about it so it stands out a lot more to them, and then having people here encouraging them to freak out about it so of course they keep focusing on it. For example there is a thread here right now where a guy posted a picture and several people asked where the nick was. I couldn't find it til he answered them and I still had to enlarge the picture to see it. He claims it was a defect but it took him two weeks to notice it! Now he can't not see it (because he knows it is there, I am betting if he stopped worrying about it he'd go back to not noticing it unless he thought about it). And people are encouraging him to keep returning it til he gets a perfect one.

I think part of it has to do with reading these forums and seeing other people freaking out about how they got defective product. I know I've seen it happen to myself (I start worrying about yellow tint, heh. Something that probably wouldn't affect me unless it was really bad except I read people freaking out about it here so any slightly yellow tint that I otherwise wouldn't even notice I start focusing on <- I'm not talking blotchy, that I agree is definitely something to return for. I'm talking about the white all the sudden not looking as white as I think it should).

The Geeks at my Apple store says some stores already have refurbs and most will by this weekend as the 14 days is UP!:p

----------

We will NOT let it be. These OCD people do nothing but drive up the cost of our goods.

Your feeling of "entitlement" is so typical!

Yet, How many times have your "cost of goods" been driven up?! Lol
Granted, some returns have been excessive but I highly doubt Apple is going to change their pricing structure cause of the minority of users who have OCD with their iPad returns.

Perfect examples.

If there is a real defect that is fine but a single stuck pixel, a gash that all of a sudden appeared on the bezel that i do not know where it came from, my ipad get red hot . . . . on and on it goes. Bunch of whiners get on this site and bleed together! LOL! SHEEP!:p

It's up to Apple to decide whether a device is worthy of an exchange or return. No doubt some people return iPads for what others would consider less than valid reasons--but its not up to them is it?

Considering the billions in surplus cash that Apple has sitting around, the current return policy they have has improved the bottom line--it has not damaged it in the least. I think you have a dim view of how a successful retail store should operate.

It starts with the user and if there is really a need to return, NOT Apple.

Returned mine today and they had no replacement, so I waved bye-bye to my new iPad. First time I've had to do this with an apple product and I have a few, kind of sad.
To be fair it was harder to see the uneven tinting under shop lighting. Maybe just as well as I don't have the patience to keep returning iPads, I'll just hold on until this sorts itself out, if it does, but I don't want a subpar screen which was my main reason for upgrading.
C'mon Apple say something and kick some butt!

Waiting may not be the answer as there were simular problems with the iPad 2 with uneven lighting and bleeding. I knew people who just got a iPad last Christmas and they still had simular problems.

So you have finally acknowledged the problem? Now, that's more than striking the screen lottery!

Why the heck should I even care? I've got an iPad i'm happy with, if your iPad doesn't make you happy that isn't my problem.

I never said that there were not problems. You need to go back and READ. I have no problem with a device being returned if it has a real defect that effects it's performance, but just because it smells funny?:p

OCD Kills the fun

It starts with the user and if there is really a need to return, NOT Apple.

Apple could refuse to accept a return or exchange so it is up to them. Many retail stores do not accept returns under certain conditions.

It's not the user's responsibility to decide whether they have a right to return an item. That lies with the retailer and if they allow it then that's that.

And it pissed you off because?? .

If they have a perfect product i am sure they wouldnt return or have it replaced. Everyone have their own standard, expectation and tolerance level of imperfection.

Even Apple itself have the 14 days no question ask return policy. Apple is a smart company i am sure they weight in the pro and cons for that decission.

The question is how these people returning their goods affecting you? I just dont get why you so irritated by that

Returned yellowish screen

I took mine in and noticed the screen was yellower than the display iPads. They measured the screen, said it was not as bright as it should be, and replaced it. Doesn't seem to make a lot of difference, but it's good to have a screen that's within specifications (though it's still sort of yellowish).

LOL. I find your definition of defect rather subjective and anything not to your liking will by default lead to diagnosis of OCD. And again, the 'real defect' on its own is subjective. Something that is fine with others might not be fine to you, like how we think it's ok to return an iPad with a dead/stuck pixel (deemed defective by some users) which you seem to think is not ok!

it really does depend on the product and whether it is still useable without noticing the fault. Yy iMac had the yellow tint problem along the bottom and it never bothered me as i didn't even notice it unless the screen was totally white. However my iPad tint change (half yellow) was too much when reading a book and was annoying to the point where you couldn't enjoy reading the book. If i didn't read books on my iPad i probably would have kept it.

OCD ... the human mind is perfect at creating problems it thinks exists. Look at psychopaths and other disorders - a lot of it has to do with the mind. Read those papers of Doctors who give actual medicine vs placebo pills - those who received the placebo pills did a lot better. http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2010/12/these-fake-pills-may-help-you-fe.html is one of many many articles on this.

Mass hysteria.:p

Can't believe how many posts I see who are returning perfectly good Ipads for the smallest of reasons.

Thing is once you use the Ipad you don't notice the colour difference. All you are doing is opening new Ipads and wasting them and no doubt will be back on the market as refurbs in a few months.

The colour tint isn't a fault it's been common since the 3GS > 4 change the screen looks warmer.

I would agree with the warmer screen if it was consistent across the entire screen.

However, the iPad I purchased (Black, 32GB, WiFi) is warm "Yellow" on the right side and cool "Blue" on the left side when looking at it in the portrait orientation. This extends from top to bottom. This is annoying while reading, web browsing, among other tasks on the iPad.

I have given the iPad almost two weeks, the "Return Period", to see if this issue dissipates. It has not. I have used the iPad every day since I purchased it and I still notice the difference.

All I am doing is asking Apple to provide me a product that is devoid of this screen issue for the $599 I am providing them.

+1

Totally agreed! That's why I said it's subjective. Some people might bring it back because it has a tint whereas some might keep it as long as there is no pixel problem and the other way round. Not asking for an iPad that can fly me to the moon. At least get what is advertised. You don't see a clause in the advertisement that says there will be dead pixel/stuck pixels or tinting problem do you? So some of us here should stop playing judge or doctor. You know who you are.
