you guys are seriously bitching about 9.95? whether it is paid for shipping or not, you are still paying 9.95 vs paying $29 for the regular upgrade.

do you guys really expect everything to come free to you guys? just be thankful they are willing to give out a UTD program otherwise you'd be paying $29.

well considering that i just gave apple nearly 3000$ back in june...
it's called treating your customers with respect. i mean, windows machine usually get free upgrades when purchased near the release date of a new OS

So? Everyone has given them $1000-$3000 at some point. It doesn't matter if it was in June or two years ago.

It does matter. Those who bought since June were enticed to buy because we could update to SL for free. Its rude and disrespectful to treat UTD customers 2nd rate. UTD customers did apple a favor by not waiting to buy (letting apple sales slump).

Well, since its $29 and not $129, this is a different story....if it were $129, I'm sure there would be a good number of users who would have waited until September to upgrade, and like i said, would cause June-Sept sales to slump

UTD said to arrive on friday, too

in another thread, earlier, i wrote this:

i was on the phone earlier today with a seemingly-knowledgeable apple rep today (about a separate issue, but i inquired about my UTD disk).

she was around for prior OS releases and said that unlike during the period around leopard's launch where they listed different shipping for the reg version vs. the UTD version, there were no notes anywhere (that she saw) about different shipping dates.

she did note that her systems listed my order as "prepared for shipment" (i only see "not yet shipped" on the web), and she said that on only a handful of occasions over 5 years did she see an item take longer than 24h from the point her system said "prepared for shipment."

she said officially there is no guarantee about any ship dates, but things are pointing toward UTD orders arriving at the same time.

this, if true, would illustrate that just because something happened with leopard does not mean it will be the same for snow leopard.

carry on. carry on.

and this:
i agree with you that some folks may while others may not get their UTDs on friday.

i also agree -- in theory -- that the language difference should really mean something different. however, it could be inattention to detail. the rep i spoke with seemed to indicate this is possible.

to be technically correct, the language is:
"ships: delivers on august 28th"
vs.
"ships: by august 28th"

again, i have no inside information here. i just wanted to share that the rep @ apple said unlike with leopard's launch where different dates were specified, her only information said all orders will deliver by the 28th (no distinction made between UTD vs other order). she double-checked this as i specifically noted the language difference on the web.

just wanted to post an update as i phoned into apple today (again) as i was contemplating putting in an order for the $29 upgrade to guarantee that it would arrive on friday.

i had to speak with 2 representatives to get to one who could look up my order, yet both said the UTD discs would arrive at the same time. the rep who could actually look up my order said:

* for this launch, the $29 discs are actually considered part of the "up-to-date" program;
* as such, the information they have on the UTD program and shipping is the same for the $9.95 version as it is for the $29 version.
* all pre-orders are still expected to deliver on the 28th.
* she has had some callers who ordered the $29 version have "ships in september" still listed.
* in many cases, she said that shipping status may not even update until the morning of the 28th, and some people (like those close to the warehouse in california), will see shipping status change that day, and have delivery happen hours later.

so, with that info i decided not to order the $29 version. none of the above info is guaranteed, but it seems like in this case an effort is being made to get the $9.95 discs to people in the same timeframe. i guess the worst case is a few extra days. i'm cautiously optimistic.

sure it does. if you bought a laptop 2 years ago, that cost included leopard which was new OS at the time. the money i just spent covered a soon to be replaced OS.

I ordered my UTD disk on August 10th and mine still says "Ships by August 28th" and "Not Yet Shipped". I called Apple and the guy said mine is actually in "Prepared for Shipment". I never told him that it says "Not Yet Shipped" online... he told me to keep checking online as order status updates in realtime... clearly he is wrong.

He told me that there is overwhelming demand for SL and this is causing delays. He said it *should* ship BY the 28th, but it might not get here ON the 28th.

Too bad they didn't have a way to give people the option to pick up in store. Hey people might even buy something else while they are there...win/win.

I got my MBP about 3 weeks ago, waiting for the $10 Up To Date package, what's the rush anyway? All the reviews have said the same thing, nothing huge - tweaks/enhancement/refinements (not reinventions) So..you really need that faster startup/shutdown time or the likes that urgently? Come on, relax :)

Add me to the list.

U.S., Los Angeles. Ordered on 8/20. As of 3:42PM Pacific time, ships on Aug 28. I hope its same day shipment. I wonder if I can do a store pickup? :D

how are you guys so sure it will arrive with 24 hours? in the email it says:

Delivery Time Frames
Standard Shipping:

Allow five business days for delivery.

did you guys pay extra for next day shipping?

it doesnt matter. you did not do apple a favor for buying it in june. you are the people that expect things to be handed to them and are never grateful for anything.

so if SL is launched 2 months prior from tomorrow's day, people like you that supposily did apple a 'favor' and bought macs in March/April will whine about expecting to be treated like a king. you're not different than others. if they say yours is going to be shipped out later..then so be it. theres nothing you can do about it.

Because I called Apple and they said so. :D

Oooh HB? I'm FV!

so it didnt matter that it says 'standard shipping' its still going to be shipped within 24 hours? is it going to get shipped from the apple store or shipped from the main apple corp/distribution center?

OC represent!!

No I'm pretty sure everyone has standard shipping and yeah the Apple reps keep assuring people that it'll arrive tomorrow if they ordered it by Wed or something like that. It ships from a distribution center/warehouse.

what annoys me is that the email I got from Apple on monday told me that if I ordered SL by Wednesday night at 11:59pm, I would have it by Friday. I ordered it around 5:30pm on Wednesday, and the apple order status says it'll arrive between Sept. 1-5.

I'm hoping the site just hasn't updated...

lol - that's what I'm saying. funny how there are so many upset people over $9.95........ Jesus, we are getting a pretty sweet OS update for less than the price of a single meal at a decent restaurant. so what if it doesn't come on 8/28? does this mean our lives will drastically change if we don't get it on that exact date?

if so, I think you guys have far more worries than this on your plate. :p

It's more the principle of the matter that even though both orders are "preorders" people who paid more get theirs first.

This is sort of like if a person ordered from the regular retail store vs the education store, and both paid the same amount for shipping, but the education store purchase shipped a week late because it was cheaper.

It's just obnoxious. There's no reason up to daters should have to wait just because they paid less. Arguably, they ordered WAY before anyone could preorder SL from Apple, but are going to get theirs later. That is what is called "unfair."

Ordered on the 20th, originally said that it would ship in September but was changed a few days ago to Ships: By August 28. Still says "Not yet shipped"

Ordered July 27th, my card was charged days later then the charges dropped. Then charged again and the charge has stuck for 2 weeks.

It says "not yet shipped". I could have sworn I saw it shipped so I was planning to install this weekend. I'm guessing not after all.

Same thing for me: ordered August 10 and website still shows not yet shipped - ships before August 28. :(

Ordered my UTD on July 6... Says ships by Aug 28. Still says Not Yet Shipped. And there have been no charges to my Debit Card since I ordered my computer on July 2. Different apple reps have given me different stories... have yet to call them today.... I'm in the Eastern time zone, so tryin to give the west time to wake up n get rolling...

I did see in another thread that a guy didn't get his email ship notice until after receiving the actual package.... hmmm...

Who Knows....

Relax people. It's just an OS update. It won't change your life and it won't let you do anything with your Mac that you can't do now. If we get it a few days after its out, no problem. Until a week ago, we weren't expecting it until September anyway. Apple is not treating us as 2nd-rate, we're basically getting it for $20 less than everyone else.

If you really want it today, I suggest:

1) Buy a retail copy and install it. You should be able to legally resell it once your UTD comes, because that covers your license.

2) If you have several Macs then get a family pack today and install it on your UTD machine.

3) Get a copy from a friend. Your UTD license covers you. I see no bad karma in installing a friends copy when I have already purchased a UTD licence.
