I think that was the point.

Then I misread when you said "Ummm, you realize that the color white is simply a reflection of light in the room." I interpreted it as the only thing making the white look warm vs cool is the light reflecting off it when you can have a yellowish white or q bluish white.

haha. I was trying to give the OP a hard time (apparently I failed) for thinking the white is going to look pure white under every single different lighting condition.

Actually if you look at it mostly at home and it's a creamy white, maybe it's a good time to update your lighting in your house?

My whole point is they should called it " platinum white " instead of " white " and advertise accordingly. The gal s3 is white... The iPhone is platinum white. I choose platinum white over creamy white appelation because you guys deny your iphone looks creamy white. I think platinum white is the right color appelation for white iphone and it sounds better than creamy white.

If apple would called the white iPhone 5 " platinum white " I would have probably buy. But calling it " white" turn me off cause I except to see and have a white iphone and its not ! False advertising.

Odd thing is, the human brain compensates for surrounding light quite well. It usually takes extreme lighting conditions (really green fluorescents or orange street lights) to really "change" the color of white. In normal lighting white may photograph warm, but it looks white.

My gf's white iPhone 5 looks white to me.

I disagree. It's called white and it looks white to me.

White isn't a color. It is the absence of color. How it appears depends on the light available (as others have stated).

You can have warm or cool whites which look different regardless of the light available.

Erm, wrong, white is a colour, black is not.

A white object reflects ALL colours so it reaches your eyes as white.

A black object absorbs all light, NO light is reflected, therefore your eyes won't see any colours, and you perceive it as black.

Are black and white colours?

With the infamous white iphone 4 delay, Apple learned to put glass over the white, therefore protecting it from changing color like the old white imacs that could actually get dirty.

White iphones and pads are very sleek and great-looking. I love it, and the glass over the white perfectly retains color.

Perhaps it looked grimey in the store due to all the dirty people touching the phone. Mine is white as white can be.

Apple first did this with the early iPods and iBooks. Having glass over the white doesn't stop it from yellowing, having high quality paint does. The glass cover also stops the white from scratching.

I wonder if the OP also refuses to use the stock iPad cables and charger because they aren't white enough for him?

I switched from black iPhones (1st gen, 3g, 3gs, and the 4) to the White 4s and now iPhone 5. I'm really, REALLY impressed with the 'White' of the phones/iPads. Although---my 'new' iPad is black, I'm a big BIG fan of the "Apple White"...whether it's cream, platinum, or a reflection of the lighting in the room I reside it...it's very formal looking, elegant...and to me, it avoids the 'finger print' issues I always had with my black iPhones.

Really dig the white...and my iPhone 4s was purchased launch day, last year. My wife is now the owner...and it's immaculate. No scuffs, scratches or 'dirtiness' to knock it down a shade or two :)

I'm impressed how well the color has 'held up' honestly. I did think it would turn out like my older white, plastic MacBooks. But as mentioned earlier in this thread, Apple...for a reason, took some extra time to release the white iPhone so as to get it 'right'. They. Did.

I may have to return my black iPhone because it's not black enough. I dont believe it has enough absence of color to be black.

So you'd only buy it if they advertise it as "platinum white" regardless of what color it actually is? What kind of illogical thinking is this?

So I'm not too familiar with terminology and stuff but "platinum white" strikes me as silverish white rather than creamy white. I get this impression mainly because platinum rings don't have any yellow in them compared to white gold.

Maybe someday they will have hundreds of different shades of white (and let's not forget about black) to choose from.
