Way to put a damper on the stock Phil!

You could of left with a teasing remark about more great products to follow and just not give a date of release...

He wants to make sure the old stock gets cleared out before the new stuff comes out. And unlike pc makers who are thrilled to announce new hardware and update it as new components become available, Apple could care less about keeping customers informed. Are they worried that they are going to buy PCs ? :D The benefit of a captive audience. Can't say that I blame them. What an enviable position to be in.

Given that Core i5/i7 in the Macbook Pros is what's finally going to push me over the "it's worth it to upgrade my 2006 MacbookPro1,1" line, I'm a bit disappointed.

It's just plain not worth upgrading right now, especially since the current MBPs use previous generation CPU tech. Offering matte screens again was a big one for me, but not enough. A new laptop is a significant investment and the cards have to fall just right. Especially since I tend to be on a 3 to 4 year upgrade cycle and keep my laptops far longer than most.

Oh well, we'll see what happens. My little 2.0GHz Core Duo still has enoug oomph for most tasks!

I'm thinking we're going to be very happy campers come January.

Since 2002, Apple has released new Macbook Pros five times during the September to November period. On the other hand, they have only released 4 new versions during the January-February period. Where is the history lesson?

Go review the releases of the new MacBook Pros and get back to me.

Apple changed their update cycle once they switched to Intel. As I mentioned in my second post, they update their MBP line every 7-9 Months. Going off that, June 2007 saw new MBPs, then the next update was in Feb 2008. So, the lesson is the new MacBook Pros will be released Jan/Feb of 2010.

iBook?

I was wondering after all of the articles on the Apple "tablet" if they made the name change a while ago to "MacBook" so they could use iBook for this device?

Oh no!! What are we going to do without new products for an everlasting two months!

go radio shack!

Considering I engaged in constant debate with my freshman roommate Dan regarding which was better, my Tandy, or his Mac, I'm hesitate to admit that I check this site a dozen times a day for an update on where the next apple TV is....

I want my Apple TV.

You guys sound crushed...

Apple needs to announce the end of updates for this year - to get people to buy now.

Duh.

Who the hell wants to buy knowing their macbook might be a crappy antique the next day?

This is good news. Too many updates too soon can result in poor quality.

Even the 27" iMac's seems a little rough around the edges. Several in the local Apple store had an uneven gap at the bottom of the screen when one compared the left side of the screen to the right. Unfortunately not too polished looking.

Any more new products, other than internal updates, could push the envelope for Apple.

educated guess here but I'll bet there will be updates next month (November), the macbook was updated after only 5 months so its possible for the macbook pro too. Apple can't afford to have no i7 mobile laptops for too long when just about every windows manufacturer is advertising mobile i7 quad core laptops etc especially with the good reception of windows 7.

Plus Apple denied there was a new announcement up until the very same day with the macbook and imac, it's apples marketing process as they know blogs/papers etc will talk about the 'no more updates this year etc'

I was one day out with my estimate for the imac/macbook too, I was saying the 22nd, the same day as windows 7 but it came a day earlier

No, you were NOT one day out, and here is the proof:
maybe been mentioned but I would have thought that any updates to the extent thats being mentioned on the first page (2 redesigned items) would have been given a press event.

I can understand the rumours being that the 22nd is windows 7 day but I still think its going to be next week at the earliest.

The thing about forums is when you claim you said something, you can actually be called on it, with proof... PWNED.....:p

Is this really a surprise? They just updated iMacs and Macbook, and have they ever come out with an update during Nov/Dec?

Of course there's no more updates this year. And that my friends is where MWSF comes in.

Why does it turn into a crappy antique next year ? Does it mysteriously stop working ?

I have not heard Apple was denying anything, they just did'nt talk about it.
It is Apples marketing process to be mysterious, not to go out and say "there won't come any more updates this year" if its a lie! Also, imagine how upset many people, who buys a Mac now because Apple has said that there line up is set, would be.

I concur. How many times does this need to happen before everyone realizes this happens every time with Apple.

Also Phill said "The holiday lineup is set." He didn't say that the new imac's, macbook & mini refreshes were the holiday lineup.

either stuff or t3 magazine (can't remember) physically asked Apple as it was posted on their website. This was the day before the release of the imac/macbook in the UK.

The comment just happened to be mentioned in casual conversation to a blog editor during a conversation about their latest and greatest new products. Also gizmodo reported it wrongly to start with (theres an update) and it is now saying the line up is set for the holiday season.

So lets see, no business is going to actively say they have a new model/product in the next month (even more so with apple) when they have old stock to shift. They also want people to buy the recently released stuff and then buy another new product when its released say a month later .

If we don't get an update we don't get an update but I'm sticking with my view that we'll probably see an update in November as its usually about 1 month after intel releases a new cpu that Apple follows with their updates if they haven't been given special treatment.

Perhaps it turns into one of these?

Apple's next hardware announcement will be at the CES in Las Vegas in January. It will be their first time there, they'll have to come up with something. ;)

Everyone should know by now that when Phil says "no product", he really means "yes, there's a product, but I can't tell you about it yet."

So let's just wait like we always do.
