But doesnt it appear to be a long time between apple releasing the Id's for a new Macbook pro, and its actual realease date?

Has this happened before.

Apple's next hardware announcement will be at the CES in Las Vegas in January. It will be their first time there, they'll have to come up with something. ;)
If Steve is giving the keynote address, you can expect something big. If he is not giving the keynote, forget it: Apple will hold their own event at another time and not have to fight for the attention of the media at CES.

I didn't expect anything else from the Apple camp this year. It's a bit late now & with Black Friday & Christmas near. It would be crunch time for apple to get more products out in time. :D

People, lets look at Apple's MBP refresh cycles since it switched to intel processors. Apple has 3 MBP refreshes every 2 years.

From the buyer's guide:

1/2006 (intro 1st MBP)
4/2006 (ignore this, intro of 17" MBP)
10/2006
6/2007
2/2008
10/2008
6/2009 (most recent)

1/06 ->10/09 = 9 mo
10/06 -> 6/07 = 8 mo
6/07 -> 2/08 = 8 mo
2/08 -> 10/08 = 8 mo
10/08 -> 6/09 = 8 mo

Apple WILL NOT have a refresh before February 2010. Apple has never pushed an update forward because new processors became available. Apple has been behind on tech before, and the PC world has given mac users hell about it in the past, and this will be the case once again.

[sarcasm] that's a bold move considering that it's the end of October Mr Schiller [/sarcasm] :rolleyes:

Sweet. Quad Core MacBook Pros on January 5th, then.

That's the day before my birthday! Yay! Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't be able to afford anything. Boo!

Anyways, I really hope they update the Mac Pros, MacBook Pros, and displays. Kind of surprised they still haven't updated the 20" and 30" displays yet. :confused:

Everyone should know by now that when Phil says "no product", he really means "yes, there's a product, but I can't tell you about it yet."

So let's just wait like we always do.
No, Apple has previously said things like "our holiday lineup is set" and if you look at their product release history, it is unlikely that they will make any major announcements until next year.

As others have mentioned, Apple wants you to buy what's on the store shelves now. As a very satisfied AAPL stock owner, I am inclined to agree.

I expect Apple to refresh the MacBook Pro line in January or February next year with the 32nm successor to Clarksfield (Nehalem-based architecture and considerably lower thermal numbers than the current 45nm parts).

I'm really not sure what to do???

I could rate this article positive because now I know not to believe any rumors of new products/upgrades coming out this year. I could also rate this article negative because there will not be any new products/upgrades this year.

My head hurts. :confused:

I call fake. I don't think Schiller is real. If you look closely at any of his pictures, you can see that he's very pixelated. And if Phil isn't real, then neither are his comments. So I expect to see updates every Tuesday right up until Christmas.

Parsing possibilities...

Original:

"There are not going to be any new Apple products this year."

Revised:

"The holiday lineup is set."---

Parsing this:

1) this year--->holiday... does that include: Thanksgiving? Christmas? Chanukah? What about after Dec. 25?

2) new Apple products--->lineup... does this mean there could be new Apple products this year that won't be available for the holidays (in the "lineup")?

3) nothing--->set... Does set include: Already announced? Only those available for delivery? Any unannounced products, that could be announced, and possibly, available for (air freight) delivery?

There is all kinds of wiggle room in the revised statement-- interesting that Apple felt it necessary to post a clarification.

No, you were NOT one day out, and here is the proof:

The thing about forums is when you claim you said something, you can actually be called on it, with proof... PWNED.....:p

I do frequent more than one forum and I actually said it on another forum in conversation there a bit nearer the time :rolleyes:

grain of salt

Maybe we can expect a 100-200 price drop on current line thanksgiving week to sell out of current models, I bet apple has some deal where they will get the 32nm quads before anybody else and the update on the mac pro will come out at same time first weeks in January.

Still a shame to not have new pro laptops out before a new semester though. Then again, they may be marketing the whitebook as the new student line and actually orienting the pro line to its traditional audience.

I thought Apple always does some trade show in early January. If this is their first time at CES, what have they done in previous years at this time?

I'd love to see a 'just kidding' and we see the Apple Tablet. But no biggie. We will see it when we see it, and i'm sure it will be just amazing

They didn't post a clarification, but were asked for one.

Good news is that the word "set" has no solid meaning here. Set != released. Instead it could mean "We've decided on what the holiday lineup will be" and that there are new products to be released. God knows a MacPro and ACD refresh would be thanked. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see an ipod touch with a camera before too long (I still contest that there were manufacturing errors with the camera touches which lead to the removal)

For those skeptical about Phil's words, or trying to interpret each individual word to make what you want, you're wrong. If Apple were updating the MBP's now they would have done it along with MB's and iMacs. Expect more updates after the holidays.
When is the Apple show in January? Willing to wait until than. Just got a new MacPro, which will be of course outdated in a few months...:(
There is no more Apple shows during January unless it is something special. Apple is no longer participating in Macworld.

Hahaha. :D

Holiday line-up all set was said before officially. This just confirms it officially again. The reason the clarification was needed was the difference between calendar year and fiscal year. Each audience hears it differently. Both audiences know what holiday season is.

The air freight costs could easily be due to initial samples of the MacPro (partner debug), iMac, MacBook being sent by air to populate the initial channel while mass quantities are shipped over by ship and initial orders are sent directly from China.

The MacPro 6 way I am guessing will be announced in January for immediate delivery and MacBook Pro quads announced for later delivery.

I hope the keynote is about the iTablet (ATNN).

There is a lot to talk about regarding software and services these days. I am guessing service will become an increasingly large component of Apple's offerings.

Now that Apple makes each portable computer casing one by one (in masse), it opens the possibility of strange form factor short run systems, ala Anniversary Mac, but more along the lines of vertical market systems.

Maybe they can do the LTE rollout for AT&T and Verizon . . . .
