Yes and thats why your getting your ass kicked by Android.

I have owned the S3, Nexus 4 and the Note 2 and i can tell you fragmentation hasnt hurt my experience one bit.

PC's are fragmented to hell and they dont suffer. In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Dont tell consumers its for their benefit you make the hardware and software. Its for your profit only

I agree... I couldn't take the small screen of the iPhone anymore So I switched to a Nexus 4 and love it. More features... I feel bad for Apple which is becoming more like RIM every day as RIM was stuck on their physical keyboards with a stagnent OS now Apple too is doing the same thing stuck on having the smallest screen and stagnent OS. Look at every pay as you go phone and notice the iPhone has a similiar size...so sad becuase I used to LOVE my iPhone and Apple but without Steve they are just riding a wave that is slowly passing by. Time to go catch a new wave Apple. If Steve was still running this show, they would have a lot more to show and flash than what they have now. Apple was all about wow-ing people. Now the wow has left. Call me a troll all you want but the truth is there and it's not that I hate on Apple it's just I wish I could yell at someone over there to get their **** together. Yes, it's easy to complain but I do have a lot of ideas to go along with my complaining and it wouldn't be far off track with what Steve or like Steve would be pursuing. They need their fire lit again and it's not Tim Cook.

Sorry if this upsets you but it's just my opinion and wanted to speak just like everyone else does in here, I am not trying to start a war in here with anyone and no I will not go on what is better in the competition as I am not interested in starting a war in here. This will be my only comment in here on this.

thats the second time this month that Schiller went attacking the competition. Scared much?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'd wager that 90% of pcs are under-performers compared to the macs in their category and price-point.

I'd wager that is malarky. Can you cite a few of examples?

Who makes more money? Google or Apple? Who's getting who's ass kicked?

Google makes $0 from Android. They are actually helping foreign companies and hurting American companies in the process.

This is why I can't stand Google android sheep.

Lol, Apples money is all overseas and they don't pay hardly any American tax.

Remember the same comments back in the days when Microsoft was the king. Apple always ended up saying the same: " we build the soft and the hard " bla bla bla

It's true but that wont stop Android to be in every mobil. Did that stop MS back in the day? Nope.

You do realize that you are a tech savvy person if you are browsing this site... You make up close to 0% if those who but devices (android or iOS) fragmentation does hurt the other 99% and I can give you many first hand accounts. People go out buy a device because their friend could do X on their android. Then they find out its 2.x and they can't upgrade to get the feature they want. So it may not hurt you who does their research and understands the fragmentation.... Everyone else. It does.

And any tech savvy android user I have ever met is definitely effected also. Their purchasing decisions are 100% effective. They buy nexus products to avoid the fragmentation. They jail brake their devices....

Next, PCs generally are running one of 4 versions of windows. They are not nearly as bad as android (if they were 60% of people would still have XP and manufactures would still be selling new PCs with xp, so android is far worse off over a far shorter time period)

Lastly, benchmarks aren't the only evaluator for a computer. If you are mostly a gamer then great benchmarks matter for you. But again you are barley 1% of the people who buy computers. The rest of people prefer a quality experience that is reliable and Intuitive. Osx is that in my opinion and the only reason it remains a minority (although the only computer company not drastically losing sales and actually unceasing sales) is that they don't build the cheapest pos to fall apart in a year possible.

Whenever there's a paid app I might buy, I try to pirate it first just to make sure it's not bogus.

I used to do that too, after blowing hundreds of dollars on CAD & Design apps that were either wildly unstable or too poorly done to be useful (most of them at the time), with zero recourse whatsoever. If an app did what it claimed, I'd be happy to pay for it, but I'm not "voting with my wallet" to support bad product, so if pirating is the only way to tell before its too late, then so be it.

These days I don't jailbreak though, and I don't pirate. ...but nor do I buy any more apps either. So hooray, there's one less pirate out there. But there's one less potential customer too.

Its just a shame apple wont update their software... it looks the same as it did on day one.

The new HTC one looks great and the software looks really good.

But as Phil said, they don't offer the level of integration. Im not prepared to give up the integration between my iPad, iPhone and Mac. Well done Apple you have managed to create a winning business plan with minimal work on your behalf.

Why is that important for you change the GUI? Why? I am very happy with iOS and I hope the iTV comes with the same GUI as well. I can use my iDevices without looking at them. I know where to touch and when. The iOS is a front, a launcher for the really good apps. You just need the iOS launcher to use an app with a very different GUI so what gives!?? You want a different way to launch apps??? Give me a break. Go play with your droids boy this is iOS land here.

I wonder if anyone from samsung/google thanked Phil for the comments? Any press is good press especially the day before you announce a release of a new product.

My one friend who trashes Apple products has an Android phone from 2 years ago running the same old OS that he doesn't even know the name of... Gingerbread I think. He tried updating it and couldnt figure out how to...

I hate people who trash talk but aren't even tech savvy enough to know or understand their own products...

I had way more pirated iOS software than I will ever have on my android phone.

I never used any of the services when I had my iPhone. All my stuff backs up to google and my PC.

So what you are saying is you still pirate on Android, just not as much.

Maybe if you had used those services, you would have had a better experience on iOS.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Samsung announcing the Galaxy S4 tomorrow.

Looks like Apple is anticipating some losses.

They are anticipating the loss of the "innovation" title.
S IV rumours are fingerprint scanner to unlock, eye scrolling, etc. etc.
Apples hardware innovation with the iPhone 5 was a new case and a lightning port (which at the moment despite it's virtues is unable to do some simple things like HDMI decently) and what are the rumours for the 5S? I'm not sure that there will be much there that will compare to the features that a number of other manufacturers have already implemented.
I think people will just fall onto the "ease of use" title to defend iOS preference and drop "innovation" which is what Phil was implying, even then Steve Woz prefers WP to iOS for ease of use so iOS is getting a fair attack on both fronts.

Some people have this thing about them that requires them to have some sort of validation over their choice whether it's an iOS device, Android, Windows, BB or whatever.

It would be an ultra boring place if all it had was iOS devices or just Android devices, etc. I'm very glad to have a choice to look at what makes each unique then have the freedom to make my own choice that makes me happy. I could care less if someone else chose differently for their reasons.

The typical Macrumors user has this chip on their shoulder where they feel everything that comes out of Apple is the absolute best and that everything else to include the people who choose differently are somehow inept, mentally handicapped or just plain stupid.

are you sure you replied to the right person. I Just gave a 50/50 outlook to both phones. I didn't side with either. I said iPhone looks (physical design) better but Android functions better (newer vs iOS that has been the same since the first iPhone in terms of UI). I follow your views too..

LOL, Apple sounds desperate is more like it. Why even mention the competition unless you feel threatened by it?

yeh they are threatened because they were the leader by far and relaxed too much. Android now is the leader by far and Apple is still trying to catch their breath. I am an Apple fan but it would take a real imbecile to think Apple hasn't slacked off with iOS.

Phil sounds scared.

Apple sounds scared.

I would be too right now. Android is so much better than iOS right now that they have some serious catching up to do with the OS.

He's scared of Android otherwise he wouldn't be talking about trivial things like people with older Android phones.

The new crop of Android phones like the HTC One are spectacular.

Just my 2 cents

The argument can be made for iOS users missing out but your argument that they are scared is just shortsighted. iPhone sales may be only 19% of the market. But they make something like 65% of the profit... And as apple executives are concerned, its all about the money. I don't think they are afraid at all and that demonstrated by the lack of urgency in releasing new software... They aren't scared. They are complacent.

Enough of that gaming patter, it's the everyday stuff that Macs do well in. In terms of useful stuff out the box, the Mac PISSES on the PC. Also, you haven't noticed fragmentation because because you've not been on stable platform.

I disagree. I went from PC to Mac back to PC. Sure I'm a gamer and wanted/needed more power, upgradability, and features. But it was day to day work. I needed Windows, I needed customizing and compatibility. I needed easy upgrading and tweaking as needed.

Macs are great for basics. But for power users you sometimes need a lot more. Some argue graphic designers benefit from Macs and need them to be power users. I'm not a graphic designer and I need what I need to work when I need it to work across multiple computers seamlessly. I need files to open and run without problems. I need a work laptop that's compatible with every file type thrown at me and isn't going to slow me down. And I needed a desktop rig for my gaming that was limitless for gaming and upgrading.

So I left Mac. Overall it's great for the average consumer or basic student. Macs are dependable, well made, and relatively solid for daily use. It's great for people that don't know anything about computers and just want to get online, edit photos, listen to music, and type some documents. But once you get into areas where you absolutely need things to work and be compatible because your business depends on it, it's not going to be a Mac unless you're a graphic designer. And the gaming benefits are just icing on the cake.
