The concept of what I phone is says that is a bad idea. They removed that feature because of the need for security. It is primarily a phone and that aspect has to be front and center. There are Apps for that like files or dropbox. But the point is that users shouldn't have to search around to figure out what apps are compatible with what. For instance Android out of the box never supported PDF, Doc, or even vCard files even though these have been supported in since the second version of iOS or sooner. The next Android version is adding support but how many years have these simple expectations been unavailable with out downloading a special application. But customization is hailed as more important than having something so simple.

So I have to use dropbox if I want to access files and waste my data plan doing so as well? I could be wrong but I don't think dropbox is free either and limited on how many gigs I can have at X monthly cost. Nothing is quicker then accessing my storage on my device. I don't know maybe I'm old school but I like the option of having stuff on my actual device especially when I don't have a data connection or don't want to waste my small data plan. Until I can have unlimited data at a reasonable price I can't justify living in an entirely cloud type world.

Who cares which country benefits. As long as the money where to go something good in the world from any of these companies I would feel better.

Well... a Nokia exec. once blurted out in an interview that other companies could make phones cheaper than them because they don't care about using "conflict" minerals etc. i.e. buying raw materials from countries that will use that money to fund war.
I'm not implying Apple at all, just saying in the "who cares" scale of things we generally don't know where our end dollars are going. We can look at the company "philosophies" of purchasing materials if they have one but that's the best we can do (Nokia obviously as the example has a policy on not buying materials from conflict areas as do some others).
Sorry to get all "green" but that's how I feel. I like to look at the greeness reports, and charity policies etc.

Macs are great for basics. But for power users you sometimes need a lot more. Some argue graphic designers benefit from Macs and need them to be power users. I'm not a graphic designer and I need what I need to work when I need it to work across multiple computers seamlessly. I need files to open and run without problems. I need a work laptop that's compatible with every file type thrown at me and isn't going to slow me down. And I needed a desktop rig for my gaming that was limitless for gaming and upgrading.

So I left Mac. Overall it's great for the average consumer or basic student. Macs are dependable, well made, and relatively solid for daily use. It's great for people that don't know anything about computers and just want to get online, edit photos, listen to music, and type some documents. But once you get into areas where you absolutely need things to work and be compatible because your business depends on it, it's not going to be a Mac unless you're a graphic designer. And the gaming benefits are just icing on the cake.

Don't you think that it's a bit rude to basically tell everyone on a Mac forum that they must be a "basic" computer user who "doesn't know anything about computers"? Clearly you had a specific need to run Windows... like if you're depending on Visual FoxPro apps written in 2002 to run your business, then obviously you can't use OS X (short of running Parallels, but I'm assuming you're not a basic user and knew that). Most people aren't in that situation, and that does not mean that they're "basic".

I dropped Windows years ago and even got rid of my custom built Gaming PC because my Mac completely and unexpectedly replaced it. I use my low-end 21 inch 2011 iMac for everything from gaming to general use to work stuff (programming). I should have gotten the top-end model, but I haven't had any performance issues with this one. I've never been unable to play a game, either. Battlefield 3, Starcraft 2, Dishonored, Arkham City, etc... everything looked and ran great.

I can't imagine ever trusting Windows again, but I'm not about to make assumptions about people who do.

I agree but at least quote me correctly when I say "Who cares as long as its for something GOOD" Pretty sure with the 94 billion and whatever the other large companies like samsung make they can do the same research as Nokia to at least try to makes sure that happens.

Just for the record something good generally doesn't include war activitiy. ;)

...Google makes $0 from Android. They are actually helping foreign companies and hurting American companies in the process. ...

Googles business is ads being served when you use their search engine. That's how they earn the majority of their billion-dollar profits. So for their business to work, they need to make sure that as many people as possible use their search engine.
"Let's build a mobile OS where our browser and our search engine is the default search option". "And let's give it away for free to the worlds smartphone makers". If you are Google it is actually a great way to make money.

It's true there's no way around it.
The second problem that android has is piracy, I only know 1 person that doesn't pirate android apps all the other users that I know either use only free stuff or pirate away.

I know of plenty of forums to get pirated copies of iOS apps.

Sounds to me like Apple is getting worried.

They only make money if you click (tap) on it. When was the last time anyone hit up an ad link on their mobile phone when you did a google search? That's right, (virtually) no one. Google has admitted that they are haing trouble figuring out how to monetize mobile search: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/23/technology/google-profit-exceeds-expectations.html?_r=0

Apple has not found a lot of success in iAds either but at least they're generating money off iOS, iOS devices, and apps. The same is not true for Google. From the WSJ: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324077704578358420185789616.html

Last year mobile researcher Horace Dediu estimated that Google generates around $2 in revenue per Android device per year, and that most of Google's mobile revenue came from its apps on Apple devices.
The article also states that Google said they were on pace to generate $8 billion in mobile revenue for the year. Okay, so lets estimate that there are about 300 million Android devices currently in use. Lets be generous and say they have 400 million on average for the year. That would mean they would make $800 million from Android devices. It would also mean $7.2 billion comes from ads on iOS devices. Lets let that sink in, shall we?

Android fans are in serious denial if they don't think Andy Rubin's stepping down didn't have anything to do with the fact that he hasn't found a way to make their mobile business generate significant revenue on their own platform.

It has been depressing reading some of these comments. Some of you do not even understand what fragmentation is and yet you still post nonsense. Stop while you are ahead.

Is that what you said?:

The good ol' virus misconception.

I'm an avid Windows, Linux, and OSX user and I don't use an antivirus on any of them. I'm virus free and will continue to be.

Wait, give me a second, what's your e-mail I'll go write a simple virus right now and send it to you.

This argument has been proven skewed so many times it's not funny.

The number of machine which come into our area to have viruses removed are 100% windows, 0% Mac, 0% linux. This is based on real world experience of looking after 500+ machines for 20 years. There is no way we would ever consider having a winter box on the network without some anti virus software running. The truth is 99% of viruses out there are Wintel.

Yes and thats why your getting your ass kicked by Android.

I have owned the S3, Nexus 4 and the Note 2 and i can tell you fragmentation hasnt hurt my experience one bit.

PC's are fragmented to hell and they dont suffer. In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Dont tell consumers its for their benefit you make the hardware and software. Its for your profit only
Pretty sure you don't know what fragmentation is.

Or maybe you do as you seem to believe the only way to update your os is to buy a new phone.

I call BS. I used an iPhone for over 5 years and recently switched from an iPhone 5 to the Note 2. Love the Note 2 and the whole Android experience. I have a deep respect for both platforms. There is no need to say one is better than the other. They are both great in their own way. Period.

What os is the note 2 running? Also just be aware to use the next android version released you will need to buy a note iv

bla.bla.bla android vs. ios.

slow day for me.

:p

Indeed. Senior VP of Marketing says competition sucks and member of Apple forum slating Samsung. What else is new .... iOS isn't, that's for sure. Yawn ... back to coffee.

1. maps doesn't tell you right on the screen. this is an icon that you can remember where on the screen so you can tap it w/o taking eyes off the road. 1 slight peep 5 seconds later and you can tell if your drive is going to be green/yellow/red. It's handy. I can't find anything like it on iOS.

2. again, not NEARLY as convenient. In iOS, you need to press home to get out of the apps, find settings and tap, then go to wifi, then tap on the icon to turn off wifi. if the app that you have open at the time belongs in a folder, then you have to close folder too, another extra step.

3. but isn't it great that users have choices when it comes to these things? giving users the option, whoa!

4. why would i want to carry 2 devices when 1 is better?

5. no comment. the screen/display is just better.

6. it's not an Android specific feature. BUT YOU CANNOT DO THAT ON A DAMN APPLE DEVICE. We are arguing Apple vs Android here. Hello?

This isn't fud. This is an Apple fan and an Apple shareholder that has grown frustrated with the lack of innovation and refusal to accept that moderated choices and options are good for the user and better for the company's bottom line.

1. Maps?
2. Tap settings and wifi is there ????
3. Not android feature but a handset feature, nexus 4 doesn't have microsd nor removable battery
4. iPad mini ???
5. True
6. Errrr I used swype on Symbian back before android it's NOT an android feature
Stop spouting fud

But choice is a good thing. Buy what you want. No need to tell others how good it makes you feel. Just my opinion.

Phil got you guys all wild up right before Samsung's big dance tomorrow. Just remember guys that we're only in the first quarter of the year and Android already has at least 4 flagships (HTC One, Sony Xperia Z, LG Optimus G Pro, Samsung S4) announced. I'm going to be kicking back laughing when more Android flagships come out during the iPhone 5s and iOS6s launch party. Nexus 5, Motorola X and the big daddy Note 3 will eat away any iPhone momentum.

I LOVE ANDROID FRAGMENTATION. Exactly why Android is number one. The Apple suits and fanbois are too blind to see it.

Who makes more money? Google or Apple? Who's getting who's ass kicked?

Google makes $0 from Android. They are actually helping foreign companies and hurting American companies in the process.

This is why I can't stand Google android sheep.

Sounds like you like giving 100% of your money to Korea.

How do you backup and restore your note 2? You rebought all of your apps for android? What are you using instead of Photostream, iWork, iCloud, Garageband, iPhoto, Find my phone, Find my Friends, etc. etc.

Sorry, but you're not fooling anyone.

What 'features' does android have that you don't? Here's one that you have that Android doesn't. BACKUP and RESTORE! I call that a BIG one!

What's your point? Who cares if android has 99% of the market share if Apple is making the profits? I swear you kids have no logic in your small brains. You argue about this like it's religion or politics. Just because your religion or political party is the largest, doesn't mean squat!

Almost fooled me for a sec there. Successful troll is successful :D

Its people like this who make me want to walk away from this forum as its just grown to become full of hormonal teenagers in love with the shiny logo since the I device growth.

If you haven't noticed already, apple don't make products in the US. They are all (apart from one factory) made in China. Google giving their OS to companies doesn't harm your economy at all. That's the stupidest thing I've read on the internet this week.

You know for a fact its iPhone users who are the sheep.

Of course Apple is scared by the GS4. But the iPhone isn't way better like Schiller says. For example, the other day I wanted to send multiple photos from my phone via email. On the iPhone I have to select each one one at a time to attach to my email which is annoying. On the Note 2 I can select as many as I want via check boxes and attach all at once. Viola!
