and im sure most ppl care what OS # they use ... or fragmentation, which is just an excuse for devs to cry over

i met people that own android but dont even know it.

"What smartphone do u have? An android device?"

- no, i think its a samsung phone

i dont use any of those minus the iCloud for contacts, calendar and backups and im on my 5th iPhone and 3rd iPad

They don't care until the get frustrated because the app they want to download won't or worse does and it doesn't function right because the brand new phone they just bought is stuck on an old OS. The reason they don't promote apps is because they would have to disclose what its compatible with and what its not.

The funny thing is while the Apple software products are all tied together for a seamless experience that works, you just threw together a bunch of scraps from Google and other junk that won't give the same great experience. Nice fail. :)

You do know that you manage all these 'bunch of scraps' via a nice interface called browser as soon as you enter www.google.com and log in? On every thinkable device with a browser? You really have not recognized that top navbar on Google???

In other words: no need for iTunes whatsoever.

How many times did he say how "thin" and "beautiful" the iPhone is? Since that seems to be the only thing he can add to a conversation.

But I guess it works out well for his wife.

"shhh... don't ask about innovation... I can't talk about it on the new Apple products because since the pass away of our master we forgot how to do it and our answers now are mainly to sue and criticize our competition"
Phil Schiller

Lets just say the only reason im still using iphone is due the integration bw mac and ios... thats it. Im basically using google apps for everything on my iphone, which is sad. for some reason, apple stopped developing new features and more so on OSX

other than that, android (ever since ice cream sandwich came out) has more features than iOS. Thats the truth.

And more features makes it better?

Who makes more money? Google or Apple? Who's getting who's ass kicked?

Google makes $0 from Android. They are actually helping foreign companies and hurting American companies in the process.

This is why I can't stand Google android sheep.

oh yes because apple pays so much tax to the us and apple buys all of their parts from us company's and has factories full of American workers............

Exactly, and Google pays Apple almost $1 billion (yes, with a B) annually to keep Google as the default search engine on iOS devices. Hmmm... :)

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, Period. iTunes is not required for anything on the iPhone/iPad/iPod anymore. In other words, I have no need for that Google crap either. Why should I have to manage stuff in a browser? So Google manages all the other company's softwares in their browser too? Or were you just referring to Google's apps?

Fragmentation is more a developer's issue. The general public doesn't know/doesn't care. So Phil - it might exist - but so what? It certainly doesn't seem to be keeping people from choosing Android.

And does anyone really expect him to say anything other than Apple provides a better experience?

"When you take an Android device out of the box, you have to sign up to nine accounts with different vendors to get the experience iOS comes with," he said. "They don't work seamlessly together."

Dear Phil. No. That's not true. That's hyperbole.

Mr. Schiller declined to comment about future products. Instead, he discussed the iPhone 5, which went on sale last September. He said the screen is "still the best display of any smartphone."

"Given the iPhone 5 is so thin and light, the reason that people are making their devices bigger is to get up to the battery life the iPhone 5 offers," he said.

Actually - the HTC One has gotten pretty awesome reviews there Phil. Define "best"

People care less about thin and light and more about what the phone can do for them. My .02. And no - people are making larger devices because people actually like bigger screens.

Yes and thats why your getting your ass kicked by Android.

I have owned the S3, Nexus 4 and the Note 2 and i can tell you fragmentation hasnt hurt my experience one bit.

PC's are fragmented to hell and they dont suffer. In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Dont tell consumers its for their benefit you make the hardware and software. Its for your profit only

Gaming pc are niche computers. Basic pc computers bench worse than Mac computers! When a new iPhone comes out its benchmark beats everyone till newer android flag phones come out. iPhone is like ps4 or Xbox. It gives developer an easier platform to develop.

1. Maps?
2. Tap settings and wifi is there ????
3. Not android feature but a handset feature, nexus 4 doesn't have microsd nor removable battery
4. iPad mini ???
5. True
6. Errrr I used swype on Symbian back before android it's NOT an android feature
Stop spouting fud

1. He was talking about a 1 tap widget. Maps won't get you this info with one tap. Does it matter to you? Maybe not. But your response wasn;t quite accurate, I feel.
2. It is, and it's a start, but there are faster ways to get this done. Takes me three steps to get rid of wifi on iOS (without JB) On Android, 1
3. It depends on how you look at it. I am inclined to agree with both of you. Fact is, android has to have a baked in feature of the OS to be able to read external media. You are right in that the battery isn;t a software feature though.
4. Yep
5. Yep
6. I think he is more saying that one can change their keyboard if they want. Of the three stock keybaords I personally use, Apple's is the worst, followed by Android. Windows Phone did a swell job here. The difference is, of those three, Android gives me the choice to install another. Swype is one such option.

Who is spouting fud?

Android does have backup and restore, I use it. It's SnapPea. You install it on your computer and your phone, it automatically syncs your SMS, photos, documents, videos that are created on your phone to your computer. When you download videos/music, it'll auto sync it to your phone as well, if you are on the same network.

Android features that Apple doesn't have? Too many to list 'em all.. but off the top of my head:

1) 1 click to show traffic and how much time it would take for the user to get from current location to the said destination. i use the traffic widget every day to see time to work/home/etc.

2) swipe and a click to turn on/off wifi/BT/brightness, etc.

3) expandable storage (hello 64GB microsd for 40 bucks), removable batteries (huzzah, you have a choice on which phone you want to carry, and I've chosen Note 2, with its gigantic batteries AND removable batteries!)

i have about 20GB of videos of my daughter, what, you are asking me to choose which videos i want of my daughter and i have to pick between that and a couple of games that i'd like to play if I only buy the 16GB version of the phone? F and U.

4) big screen, it's like I have a portable video player/computer/phone all at once. it's not like I make that many phone calls anyway.

5) higher resolution (720p vs umm.. NOT 720p). i'm sure when Note 3 comes out, it'll be 1080p.

6) WAY better keyboard. If you still think Apple keyboard rocks.. well you need to get out of 2007 and see the light.. Swiftkey/Swipe blows apple keyboard out of the water.

....... I can keep on going but you get the point.

My game boy color uses *removable AA batteries. Those are *standard. So if my gameboy dies, not only can I *replace the batteries, but I can get more from any convenience store I want!

*words and arguments stolen from the "android is better" arguments

What's seamless about Apple's software anymore? I go into my contacts, click an address and I'm taken to a Maps app that doesn't work and isn't even close to working. I have to copy and paste the address onto a different app.

I want to listen to a Podcast - have they automatically downloaded to ,y phone overnight, ready for me to listen to during the day? No, of course not.

I sit in front of a Windows machine at work that isn't my iTunes machine. Getting information back and forth between it is a total pain in the ass.

All of this is ugly, and complicated. Integrated services are no good if the services are bad. It just means using other services instead won't have been thought through properly.

And this is why iOS is losing ground so fast. I really hope the rest of Apple isn't in such a silly level of denial about how things are.

Exactly, and Google pays Apple almost $1 billion (yes, with a B) annually to keep Google as the default search engine on iOS devices. Hmmm... :)

Ask him where the parts for the iPhone are made. Where it's assembled. But yeah - only Google is helping them foreign companies

I have to wonder how this interview came to be. Did the WSJ approach him? This is what I would guess. I wish he didn't take the bait.

Stay classy Phil.

One agent in my real estate office finally switched to iPhone from Blackberry and two other agents switched from Android to iPhone/iPad, one of which is going to replace his everyday Windows machine with a Macbook Pro in addition to switching his mobile devices to iOS.

From my experience, I see people moving AWAY from Android and towards iOS/iPhone/iPad. The two agents who switched away from Android told me that it was a piece of crap and didn't do what they thought it would do. That's enough for me!

Keep telling yourself that as your phone market share shrinks to nothing like it did w/ your Macintosh. For me the LG nexus 4 at 299 is a much better value than the iphone 5 at 650+...

Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller went on the offensive against Android in a unusually forthright interview with The Wall Street Journal.
In addition to the above comments, Schiller said that Android devices and the operating system "don't work seamlessly together" because they come from different vendors, unlike Apple which makes both the software and hardware in its devices.

Samsung is expected to announce an update to its flagship Galaxy S smartphone line tomorrow.

Bashing the competition is a loser's game. Just improve iOS and the next iPhone. It would be nice if Apple could surprise people again.

I'm pretty sure they called him and not the other way around. He didn't say anything he hasn't said before during introductions. The other part is that his competition is constantly bashing them trying to control the conversation while stealing from them and even putting out false information about their sales. No one notices that Samsung has been shipping 20 million or so smartphones in the US for the last couple of years but when they were force to release sales data at trial, they only sold 21 millions from Jan 2010 to June 2012. Where are all of these phones?

This site needs to be renamed Rumors.

Seems everybody here is against Apple. So please leave . Go to some android forum .

Oh. Wait. There isn't one that has more than 10 people on it.

In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Well that's really Microsoft's fault for monopolising on DirectX when OpenGL should be the standard, allowing Linux and Mac to have seamless development alongside windows. If OpenGL had as much emphasis as DirectX, this would change. And thanks to the way Valve is pushing for Linux, I think Mac Gaming will only get better every year. Also, if Valve keeps promoting linux, even the gamers will leave windows, one of it's biggest markets.

Gaming pc are niche computers. Basic pc computers bench worse than Mac computers!

Not that I think benchmarks are everything, but this is a bit of a silly comparison. Are you comparing a $1400 iMac to a $500 PC? Well, of course the PC will bench lower. Compare like-prices (a $1400 PC generally happens to be "gaming grade") and your PC will easily bench higher.

With the iMac, though, you aren't only paying for benchmarks. You get best in industry warranty. You get a compact unit that looks quite classy, and you get a wonderful, high quality display.

Benchmarks on phones don't even matter that much to the average end user. That is why I hate to see this silly benchmark graphs sprouting up whenever a new phone comes out. Great, use the device in real world conditions, and decide on performance yourself.

Htc just came out or delayed till end of march. It should compare with next iPhone. Google now is rumored for iOS yet only 16% of android has it. iOS is the center of best apps from Google, amazon, etc thus best experience!!
