Yup. I’d agree. It’s too easy (And sophomoric) to make fun of somebody on the Internet behind the keyboard. Phil has been a part of Apple for what seems to be an eternity and his contributions are massive to this company. I’d say this is probably more of him taking less responsibility given he is probably nearing retirement in the next few years or so.

An Apple Fellow is a person who has been recognized by Apple Inc. for their extraordinary technical or leadership contributions to personal computing while at the company. Each Apple Fellow acts as a leader and a visionary, guiding the company in their particular area of expertise. Fellows are also awarded stock options in the company.

So this is the list of Apple Fellows:

How is it possible that Guy Kawasaki is an Apple Fellow but Avie Tevanian is not?

Maybe they are supposed to be funny, but there are a lot of negative and immature comments in this thread about Phil.

Phil has been one of my favourite Apple execs. Truly a nice guy, down to earth. I am glad he's able to recognize when it's time for a change. Family matters, and every day matters.

Way to go, Phil. Apple would not be what it is without the passion that you brought to the company and the community. Now go enjoy your extra time off. :)

Agreed. He was a huge contribution and will be missed — but he also deserves the break.

I was thinking about him the other day and wondering why he seems kinda silent or off the radar. Well, it’s a good run. Wish him all the best. I think a lot of the leadership at Apple are looking at their exit plans because the realize the company is in good hands and there are fresh minds that can carry the company forward. Phill I believe still had nightmares about the company when it was almost on the brink of bankruptcy. Not anymore that’s for sure.

The man worked at Apple since he was 27. Give the fellow a break, people.

Tim Cook is 59. How long will he still be at Apple?

Jeff Williams is 57.

Eddie Cue 55.

Craig Federighi is 51 years young! He can take over as CEO. Haha! Kidding. Not.

Jeff Williams is likely the next to supersede Cook as CEO if I had to make an educated guess based on his involvement. [Which probably isn’t any time soon.]
