Jesus, it’s like people don’t even read the article before responding. Good for Phil, he deserves more personal time with his family.

This may be so, and not jabbing at Phil, but almost every explanation of a prominent executive moving on is 'spend more time with their family.' It's a trite glossed over explanation.

I'm certain if you carry enough weight, you can have your title and spend time with your family

My suspicion is its something else - be it corporate politics, nefarious reasons, personal exhaustion, or he dun goofed.

Is it of course POSSIBLE it is just that? Sure. But I'd venture to say whatever the reason, we won't ever have the privilege to know as the general public unless its something that really blows up and cant be surpressed.

He's only human though, whatever the reason and people aren't eternally placed in a company. Everyone's replaceable, even if the replacement doesn't quite the fill the shoes.

They both need to retire rich and hand the opportunity to someone younger, more hungry and with a full set of hair.

After all of those emails came out after the congressional hearing, this was probably the right move

To me, Phil will always be the guy who spectacularly announced the Mac Pro 2013 at WWDC with the now famous phrase "Can't innovate anymore, my a**.

It looks like the App Store antitrust hearing was just 1 mistake too many for Tim Apple and decided Phil needed to be replaced....

Makes sense....I think, if I recall correctly, he announced the Butterfly keyboard as well when it was 1st revealed with the re-introduction of the "MacBook"....

Hmm...

It’s easy to mock him for some of his comments during keynotes but just look at what he did with the brand since he joined in 1997. Good luck with everything, Phil 🖖

Ok - so what the hell is an Apple fellow?

Sounds like a demotion to my ears

Shame because I feel like Phil (and Craig, of course) are the only charismatic passionate people on stage

it means he’s old and doesn’t want to work as much anymore but is still going to get paid.

Maybe they are supposed to be funny, but there are a lot of negative and immature comments in this thread about Phil.

Phil has been one of my favourite Apple execs. Truly a nice guy, down to earth. I am glad he's able to recognize when it's time for a change. Family matters, and every day matters.

Way to go, Phil. Apple would not be what it is without the passion that you brought to the company and the community. Now go enjoy your extra time off. :)
Both good and bad, as with most that are the subject of articles.
Q....Do you know Phil personally?

I might be out of the loop on this one. Can someone explain?

Super truncated summary here; but after the tech hearing it was kind of assumed that the app store utilized predatory practices to push apple's own agenda/apps, despite them saying over and over again that everything is equal for all apps. Phil is in charge of the app store.

Too many conspiracy theorists here.

The man is turning 60. He's loaded with more money than he can spend. You want to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour while you're still young enough. I'm surprised he's waited this long. I'm sure there are other multi-millionaires at Apple/Silicon Valley who have cashed and checkout in their 30's!

Lol no. Just because you can't read between the lines and make connections doesn't mean everyone else is a conspiracy theorist. Also, there are lots of people who dread retiring and having nothing to do, and that's even more true for very successful people like Phil.

I doubt that anyone on this board would still be working if any of us had that kind of money and had worked that hard for that long. I know I sure as hell wouldn't.
