Rather the Macbook Air I suppose. At least until it will be redesigned too :)
Doubt it, they will probably phase it out like the OG MacBook. That's why I hate Apple sometimes. They're forcing me to buy a portable machine without retina display just because of ports.

I'm honestly fine with the 8MP camera since the other parts have gotten some great upgrades. There's no comparison between the iPhone 4s and 6 photos, especially if you use the flash. The 6 photos are 3264x2448 and take up almost 4MB each. I don't know if these are 72 dpi or 200, but that's bigger than most the photos we get from Reuters. The better photo quality from other cameras is from a million other things, many of which Apple keeps upgrading but will never reach SLR quality.

I would personally love an option for changing resolution like most p&s cameras have, especially when you get to 12 and higher. That's almost a must if Apple goes to 12MP like I think it will for the 6s.
Up the MP and set default capture at 8mp for size reasons as well as to keep an option for people who want the full sized image

Worst argument ever. You need to download a movie from iTunes to just be able to watch it, no streaming. You can't offload **** to the cloud without also having it on the phone.

Yeah, not a good argument.
About an year ago I was at a party with my iPhone 5 16GB and I was taking a lot of pictures. Then I started to take videos and after a few of them a video stopped suddely. I thought I pressed a button then I realised I was out of space so I had to delete a few apps to make room for more videos. This on an expensive machine like the iPhone. I may buy the base model with 32GB but I'll never buy a 16GB phone, it is just ridiculous on 2015 on a high end product like the iPhone.
16GB are ok only on the previous year models with a price drop of $100

Sorry Phil, battery life isn't good enough. Not by a long shot. They keep suggesting all these knew features like preemptive and learning but the iPhone can't even utilise all its existing features with acceptable battery life. They know this and don't care. I'm at the end of my tether with Apple and its "plug in anytime you can or be damned" philosophy.

Just now I went to Apple to complain that my 1.5 year old 5s's average 5.5 hours of usage isn't good enough. In the past month the best I got was just over 6 hours and the worst was barely 4 and three quarter hours. That's from full charge to completely flat. I'm not a heavy social media user and I'd already turned off most of the background tasks and stuff like fitness tracking.

Apple's response? Turn off even more. Turn off push email, turn off notifications (of which I get very few), turn off this and turn off that. They wanted me to turn off absolutely everything that made it a "smart" phone. This isn't good enough. Apple doesn't make all these qualifications obvious when they advertise their battery generous battery life. I'm even under AppleCare and they refused to replace the battery.

How much battery life will I get if I upgrade to iOS 9 with all its new features? I don't think I'm willing to find out.

5.5 hours typical usage is crap under any circumstance. I'm going to take it further. Not happy with my service from the "Genius" that's for sure!

Don't buy it and chose the MBPr retina instead.
MBA is still a good entry level if the base model fits your needs, I'd never buy a maxed out Air with its not outstanding display.

Nobody's forcing you to do anything. If you want to retina screen and need more ports buy a rMBP.

MacBook Air 13 = 2.96 pounds
RMacBook Pro 13 = 3.46 pounds

Phil, your 16 GB excuse is sad. Your iCloud option has -at least- three problems to me:
1.requires to be online
2.requires more than those tiny free 5 Gb
3.it consumes data from our monthly plans like crazy.

What Apple wants is to force people into much more expensive options. Plain and clear.

Regarding the new Macbook, of course is not for everyone. To begin with its 12 inches. If only there was a MBA with retina display, I'd fully agree with Apple's strategy. "Forward-thinking products" is one of the things I expect from Apple. My problem is that there's no MBA with retina display and the only thing I hate about my MBA is its screen. I, like MANY, have been waiting for a MBA with retina. Okay, no rMBA, but really was it that hard an extra port in the new Macbook? Yes, it would destroy the concept, BUT satisfy many customers.

And yes, I know there is something called 13" retina Macbook Pro, but I don't want it. I LOVE everything about my MBA but the screen. It's a fantastic computer and it suits my need perfectly well. If only had a better screen... or the new Macbook had a second port...

I get what he's saying and I experience this myself especially if moving to streaming services like Netflix and Spotify (and soon, Apple Music) rather than those old download-based services. That places restrictions on offline use, but at least the streaming music services manage that well while still consuming only a fraction of storage compared to what they once did.

However... I think this quote of his highlights another problem:

Schiller also said that using 16 GB storage for lower-end models allows Apple to save money for use on higher-end components in other parts of the device, like the camera.

Hold on there! A higher end camera like the rumored high MP camera will noticeably more quickly consume space on a 16 GB device. A 10 MP photo consumes not 2x more space compared to a 5 MP photo, but 4x the space.

These too can be synced and off-loaded to iCloud but I think that's further increasing reliance on good network conditions... just to show a photo.

Funnily enough, the worst example of cloud implementation is Apple itself. You cannot stream any bought iTunes content without downloading it. iCloud is fantastic if you have 64GB on all your devices but not if your stuck with 16.

Is he for real? Who is he trying to pull the wool over the eyes off? They want to use 16gb so they can spend more on other components, because a phone costing £539 retail on Apples website really needs to be concious about where its manufacturing and component costs are spent...

The guy is full of it and trying to make excuses for Apples blatant price gouging and profiteering tactics, if someone has the money to afford uncapped mobile data plans, as he is suggesting, along with text and call allowances then they can more then afford the more expensive iPhone!

As for the thinness vs battery argument, again rubbish. So Apple thinks its right on battery life and everyone else is wrong.
This is why I won't buy an iPhone, I buy my phones SIM free and can never see me returning to the iPhone because of Apples price gouging thinly disguised as doing you a favour in their marketing spin!

They have become pretty arrogant of late at Apple, I think their position is beginning to get to them and they are starting to believe they can do whatever they want, I even read more about the music service that did sound good, but then I read that you do NOT get access to all of the iTunes library! Because not all artists have singed up! So you may never be able to listen to your favourite group or artist on the service!
Perhaps that's why they concentrated so much on new and upcoming artists at their event eh?

In parts. $290 (if that's right) in parts. Are you going to put those parts together? Are you going to research how to fit those parts together perfectly? Are you going to design the operating system we get for no charge each year that optimizes how those parts are used?

Apple has to create some hardware budget making each model to pay for R&D and numerous other expenses. Almost every time I have gone into an Apple Store for some sort of tech support or service, I haven't paid a dime. Aside from when I got my iPhone screen replaced recently, I can't remember ever paying. Those employees get paid. The store is charged rent. iCloud costs a ton of money to maintain, and the OS and free apps you get with the phone aren't designed without cost.

Oh dear. Apple is just so hard done by. NOT. I can't believe anyone would stand up for Apple in this respect. Its obvious they're ripping off the consumer and its obvious they can more than afford it.

Apple should start caring a little more about user experience, as thats what is meant to separate them from the competition.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more comments regarding the devices becoming overly thin and how that causes issues. For example, the iPad Air 2 vibrates like a 1980s pager if you turn the volume up at all because the chassis is WAY too thin. I'm sure Phil doesn't use an Air 2 though so he doesn't care.

And, yeah, pretty lame argument for sticking with the hopelessly minuscule 16GB storage option for iOS devices. Doesn't he get that in order to use the cloud reliably you need a good internet connection or cell data support? What about charges for those? Security issues with free wifi are real.

Bleh.

If an iPhone could be made at only 2mm thin, do you think Apple would do it in disregard of battery or fragileness? Of course they will, who do you think they are?

Even the cost apple pays between 16GB and 128GB for flash storage is pretty negligible but that's how they get their fat profit margins. It's not something I hear a ton of users complain about as most are pretty naive toward the subject. Won't be surprised at all if Apple keeps 16GB for the 6S. Hope they make 32GB standard but i'm not getting my hopes up. As long as consumers such as myself are gobbling up 16GB iPhones they won't change a thing. My logic to buying a 16GB iPhone is that i'm not a picture taker nor have I ever been, use spotify for music, only have essential apps that I use, etc. When i'm on my iPhone i'm on spotify, safari, lastpass, parallels desktop, and hotspot VPN 99% of the time. So why would I pay 100 extra for 64GB when i'm going to upgrade my phone every year and when I had my 64GB 6 I had only used 4.1GB...yes you read that right. I have to keep my devices clean or I freak out...I absolutely hate clutter...could probably even get rid of some stuff now.

If my data usage is disabled, by iPhone 5S can last for days in standby. If its enabled Im loosing like 40% of my battery per day without even touching the phone, so the real battery drainer for me is the fu$king 3G and 4G chips.

Apple makes an estimated record margin of 6 to 7x the overall cost of production (the WHOLE production including components, manufacture, shipping, marketing etc...). This is an all-time, whole-world record for making money off of nothing real but marketing and legacy.

Pushing the greed and milking the envelope up to the point of selling a 16GB entry for a luxury smartphone in 2015 is unacceptable and unjustifiable.

Plus his argument about "making better components for camera" is completely moot: the iPhone 6 has the lowest camera specs of the market with 8 megapixels (Galaxy S5/6 or LG G4 are 16 megapixel, Sony Xperia or Lumia 930 is 20 megapixel and Lumia 1020 is 40 megapixel, none of them being half the price of an iPhone 6...)

I have never had the base model storage on any of my iPhones...and I understand wanting to push people to the cloud...but really 16 gigs is a complete and utter joke. And I use iTunes Match and don't store my music locally....And I still think it's a joke! Those that accept 16 gigs as a reasonable base model are either people who are blind Apple fanatics, don't truly use their smartphone, or are really old and were talked into a smartphone they don't need.

LOL

16GB is more than enough if you only store the apps you actually use regulary and dont spend your day taking photos and listening to music. Dont know what "dont't truly use their smarthphone" means to use. I usally delete games and apps I downloaded for some reason in a specific situation and I dont have plans to use again in near future, because they are in there - in the AppStore if I need them again for some reason.

16GB is more than enough for any normal user who has few hundered phots, few hunderd songs and few dozens of apps.
