If Steve Jobs was still here, there wouldn't be any leaks at all. Apple is no longer a secretive company. It's sad. :( No more surprises.

Iphone 4 was leaked while Jobs was still alive, even if it was a guy leaving it in a bar.

This could just be the iPhone 5 in color, different from the low cost iPhone.

It would look great.

What I think it will be....

In September Apple will launch:

iPhone 5 C (same internals as today iPhone 5, maybe updated LTE, and plastic cover)

iPhone 6 or simply "new iPhone"-like they did with ipad 3- (updated internals, but maybe same design as iPhone 5)

Why does it make sense like that for me?

Say they launch two new phones, and call them iPhone 5 C and iPhone 5 S, both will be iPhone 5.... So it'll be confusing to consurmers to know that not only they are different outside, but they are also different inside. Consumers will say: Aren't they iPhone 5 both? So what does the 5 stand for?

"last year we introduced the iphone 5. this year we are introducing two iphone 5's, because two 5's is better than 1."

this might turn out to be the new "5s", but instead it will be called "5c", and there won't be a new one with a glass backing.

I just don't get this. Why do people get so caught up in a $50 to $100 difference in the hardware of a phone when they are agreeing to a $2500 outlay for service over the next two years? I wouldn't give it a second thought for an infinitely better piece of hardware, and especially better operating system.

I am paying cash for my next phone. $200 will make a HUGE difference to me.

iPhone 5 CRAP.

If true, this is further evidence that Apple no longer innovates, but just follows what "anal-ysts"suggest.

This has nothing to do with innovation, unless you believe that Apple would be able to innovate an iPhone that a lot people in emerging markets would afford to buy, by magic perhaps. And, no, the solution isn't a carrier subsidized iPhone 4 for $0, since the customers wouldn't be able to pay for the plans.

This is purely about economics.
Or maybe you long for the old days when Apple had an abysmal market share?

An entirely plastic box with each iPhone? Is that cost effective? Or environmental?
The plastic boxes aren't packaging, they're back covers! What better way to stress that thin=premium than to make the budget model 3 inches thick? ;)

And to further humiliate customers, the color options are the same as in a bag of Skittles. Just like the low-end Ericsson T10 back in its day. As if all customers on a budget have the same preferences as 9 year old girls.

Be funny if the next iPhone is the 5C, that there is no cheap version. Especially after all this mocking!

"Be gone poor people, we have no need for you here"

$450

is not cheap!!!

do not expect it go below $450. they are going to just replace iPhone 5C with $450.

iPhone 5C - $450
iPhone 5 - $550
iPhone 5S/6 - $650 - why not call it iPhone 6 if it has slightly bigger screen let us say 4.3" but same external look.

That packaging.. I have much better expectation from Apple.

This packaging is like crap. It's like you are buying a fake iPhone that was imitated by China.

I haven't gone through this thread yet so I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but this image looks fake based on the shell on the right where the two Apple logos are close together. The logo on the right looks out of place compared to the rest of the shells, i.e. there's very little vertical space above it.

If this is real, for some reason I feel like the next iPhone won't be called the 5S. If they add random letters to the end of product names the average consumer will get confused. It's not good marketing. iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C. What would they call the sixth (cheap) iPhone? They can't call it the iPhone 6C unless they are only planning on releasing one model of it. I'm calling BS on this. I'm betting they drop the numbering from the next iPhone and just call it "The New iPhone", similar to how the iPad is no longer officially numbered.

Edit: I call BS on the NAME. Not the phone itself. I know its happening, but I don't think these boxes are legit.

So many ridiculous and immature responses here. I assume there must be a lot of high school kids on this site that have yet to learn anything about basic economics or business, and probably judge people's socioeconomic status or personal worth over whether their phone is metal or plastic. Hilarious.

This is the real deal, get over it. These are likely legit photos, and they make total 100% rational sense.

An iPhone made of plastic or poly-carbonate, in various colors, at a lower price point when compared to the current iPhone 5/5S makes complete and total sense both 1) economically, 2) strategically, and 3)business-wise.

The iPhone 3G and 3GS were made of poly-carbonate/plastic, and they sold extremely well for years until the introduction of the iPhone 4 and 5. Absolutely nobody complained about those devices being "cheap" or "crap" or how Apple was descending into "cheapness". People loved them.

Totally absurd comments on here, and I find it amazingly naive how people just don't see things rationally, especially from Apple's point of view.

Seriously, over 50% of you need to enroll in a basic college course on economics.

Let me guess, "Tim Cook and Co. are doing something wrong? They've lost their minds -- a plastic iPhone! Oh my god! Cheap!"

Grow up kiddies. These are going to sell very well and I expect a price point of around $400 off contract.

And one more thing: the general consumer, which accounts for 99.5% of all people, doesn't care whether something is metal or plastic. They view things two ways:

1) Price
2) What they get for the price/Appearance/Quality

A $650 iPhone 5 is a large sum of money for most people, if not 99.5% of consumers. In developing countries or countries with lower per-capita GDP, these are extreme luxury goods and out of reach.

A $400ish iPhone, in multiple colors, is a fair price for many people, and a large percentage of average consumers will pay within this price range for an iPhone.

Anyways, I'm amazed at the fools on this site who lack basic economic-thinking skills. Jesus.

Did Apple actually take a jab at plastic phones? Didn't apple fans actually do that?

IIRC, Tim Cook gave an interview recently where he said Apple would never make a crappy plastic phone (something about them only using premium materials like aluminum and glass).

What does the S in 4S/5S stand for? Why does the C have to stand for anything? It might be like Mercedes' S-Class versus C-Class.
