I was just playing with my new Point-and-Shoot and shot this from across the room at the equivalent of ~395mm with an additional 4x digital zoom.

I seem to take lots of pictures of squirrels. Probably cause they are all over, both where I live and at the State Park where this was shot...

Hdr

A shot near my home with very strong highlights and deep shade. 5 exposures and processed with Photomatix Pro from RAW. A nice blend of greens brought to life with the HDR technique.

Some people might say that it's too bright, but I remember Vegas for having extremely bright sunlights. It looks realistic to me, especially for HDR.

You are correct on "bright" sun in Las Vegas. On clear days like today and most others, the sun is overbearing at times. I use HDR to create more natural scenes, not the artistic examples many use the process for.

Lady bird

Found this tiny lady bird in my garden crawling around an old power supply.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the comment, oblomow. I see your point. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of going back and re-shooting, at least not for a while anyway ... so I cropped it. Wasn't sure how much, so tried it twice. The first version below is a more subtle crop, the second more extreme. I think I prefer the more subtle version, since the extreme one loses too much sand, in my view. Any further C&C welcome.

I like these better than the original. I agree with the subtle crop, however would prefer to have more space for the pool.

I think I shot this somewhere in the Lake District or maybe the Peak District. Regardless I am still pretty happy with this picture until I get my new Nikon D5000 :D

Thanks for the comments. I agree. Will play around with it a bit more.

This is great for how the dog is the focus of the shot but the lake in the distance, while misty, is still in focus. Great to be back to dogs again after all those squirrels and ducks ...

That grey/blue in the backgound is dramatic. This photo really captures the blue that places like this can have. Where is that?

howdy all :)
i am brand new here and this is my first post. i have a feeling i'm going to really enjoy the potd threads. there's such great talent here!

i don't want to get in trouble with the whole img/timg thing so i'm going to post a smaller picture and then link to a larger version, if that's okay.

this is a photo of dandelion parachutes:

You've got a nice exposure on this one. She's got a lovely face and it's a very natural looking pose.

I like this photo. The colours are good. I think you could even get away with cropping some of the bottom off. For me, there is too much road. Also, I think you could shoot at a smaller aperture and lower the ISO to 400, and still hand hold it.
